Oblation to strength, oblation to increase, oblation to progeny, oblation to the ritual, oblation to wealth, oblation to the lord of the day, oblation to the day, oblation to the innocent, oblation to the innocent, oblation to the destroyer, oblation to the destroyer, oblation to the end-bringer, oblation to the end, oblation to the lord of existence, oblation to the lord of the world, oblation to the overlord, oblation to the lord of progeny. This is your chariot, O Mitra, which guides and restrains; for strength, for rain, for progeny, for lordship, I dedicate you.
आयुर् यज्ञेन कल्पतां प्राणो यज्ञेन कल्पतां चक्षुर् यज्ञेन कल्पताꣳ श्रोत्रं यज्ञेन कल्पतां वाग् यज्ञेन कल्पतां मनो यज्ञेन कल्पताम् आत्मा यज्ञेन कल्पतां ब्रह्मा यज्ञेन कल्पतां ज्योतिर् यज्ञेन कल्पताꣳ स्वर् यज्ञेन कल्पतां पृष्ठं यज्ञेन कल्पतां यज्ञो यज्ञेन कल्पताम् । स्तोमश् च यजुश् च ऽ ऋक् च साम च बृहच् च रथन्तरं च । स्वर् देवा ऽ अगन्मामृता ऽ अभूम प्रजापतेः प्रजा ऽ अभूम वेट् स्वाहा
May life be prepared by sacrifice, may breath be prepared by sacrifice, may sight be prepared by sacrifice, may hearing be prepared by sacrifice, may speech be prepared by sacrifice, may mind be prepared by sacrifice, may self be prepared by sacrifice, may sacred knowledge be prepared by sacrifice, may light be prepared by sacrifice, may heaven be prepared by sacrifice, may the back be prepared by sacrifice, may sacrifice itself be prepared by sacrifice. May the chant, the Yajus, the Rik, the Sāma, the Bṛhat, and the Rathantara be present. The gods have attained heaven; we have become immortal; we have become the offspring of Prajāpati. Svāhā!
वाजस्य नु प्रसवे मातरं महीम् अदितिं नाम वचसा करामहे । यस्याम् इदं विश्वं भुवनम् आविवेश तस्यां नो देवः सविता धर्म साविषत्
At the impulse of strength, we address the mother earth, Aditi by name, with words. In her, this entire world and all beings reside; may the god Savitṛ establish righteousness in her for us.
विश्वे ऽ अद्य मरुतो विश्व ऽ ऊती विश्वे भवन्त्व् अग्नयः समिद्धाः । विश्वे नो देवा ऽ अवसा गमन्तु विश्वम् अस्तु द्रविणं वाजो ऽ अस्मे
May all the Maruts today, all the helpers, may all the kindled fires, may all the gods come to us with aid; may all wealth and strength be ours.
वाजो नः सप्त प्रदिशश् चतस्रो वा परावतः । वाजो नो विश्वैर् देवैर् धनसाताव् इहावतु
May strength come to us from the seven regions and the four quarters; may strength, together with all the gods, grant us wealth here.
वाजो नो ऽ अद्य प्र सुवाति दानं वाजो देवाꣳऽ ऋतुभिः कल्पयाति । वाजो हि मा सर्ववीरं जजान विश्वा ऽ आशा वाजपतिर् जयेयम्
Today, strength brings us generous gifts; strength, with the gods and the seasons, arranges the offering. Strength has indeed produced all heroes; may I, as lord of strength, conquer all directions.
वाजः पुरस्ताद् उत मध्यतो नो वाजो देवान् हविषा वर्धयाति । वाजो हि मा सर्ववीरं चकार सर्वा ऽ आशा वाजपतिर् भवेयम्
Strength is before us, and in the midst of us; strength increases the gods with the offering. Strength has indeed made all heroes; may I become lord of strength in all directions.
सं मा सृजामि पयसा पृथिव्याः सं मा सृजाम्य् अद्भिर् ओषधीभिः । सो ऽहं वाजꣳ सनेयम् अग्ने
I unite myself with the milk of the earth, I unite myself with the waters and the plants. May I obtain strength, O Agni.
पयः पृथिव्यां पय ऽ ओषधीषु पयो दिव्यन्तरिक्षे पयो धाः । पयस्वतीः प्रदिशः सन्तु मह्यम्
Milk in the earth, milk in the plants, milk in the sky and atmosphere, milk in the regions. May the regions rich in milk be mine.
देवस्य त्वा सवितुः प्रसवे ऽश्विनोर् बाहुभ्यां पूष्णो हस्ताभ्याम् । सरस्वत्यै वाचो यन्तुर् यन्त्रेणाग्नेः साम्राज्येनाभि षिञ्चामि
By the impulse of the divine Savitṛ, by the arms of the Aśvins, by the hands of Pūṣan, by the guidance of Sarasvatī, by the sovereignty of Agni, I anoint you.
ऋताषाड् ऋतधामाग्निर् गन्धर्वस् तस्यौऽषधयोप्सरसो मुदो नाम । स न ऽ इदं ब्रह्म क्षत्रं पातु तस्मै स्वाहा वाट् ताभ्यः स्वाहा
Agni, whose abode is truth, whose domain is truth, Gandharva, whose plants and waters are named delight. May he protect for us this sacred knowledge and power. To him, svāhā; to the enclosures, svāhā.
सꣳहितो विश्वसामा सूर्यो गन्धर्वस् तस्य मरीचयो ऽप्सरस आयुवो नाम । स न ऽ इदं ब्रह्म क्षत्रं पातु तस्मै स्वाहा वाट् ताभ्यः स्वाहा
The Sun, united with all melodies, Gandharva, whose rays and waters are named life. May he protect for us this sacred knowledge and power. To him, svāhā; to the enclosures, svāhā.
सुषुम्णः सूर्यरश्मिश् चन्द्रमा गन्धर्वस् तस्य नक्षत्राण्य् अप्सरसो भेकुरयो नाम । स न ऽ इदं ब्रह्म क्षत्रं पातु तस्मै स्वाहा वाट् ताभ्यः स्वाहा
Suṣumṇa, the sun's ray, the moon, Gandharva, whose stars and waters are named shining ones. May he protect for us this sacred knowledge and power. To him, svāhā; to the enclosures, svāhā.
इषिरो विश्वव्यचा वातो गन्धर्वस् तस्यापो ऽ अप्सरस ऽ ऊर्जो नाम । स न इदं ब्रह्म क्षत्रं पातु तस्मै स्वाहा वाट् ताभ्यः स्वाहा
Iṣira, the all-pervading wind, Gandharva, whose waters are named nourishment. May he protect for us this sacred knowledge and power. To him, svāhā; to the enclosures, svāhā.
भुज्युः सुपर्णो यज्ञो गन्धर्वस् तस्य दक्षिणा ऽ अप्सरस स्तावा नाम । स न ऽ इदं ब्रह्म क्षत्रं पातु तस्मै स्वाहा वाट् ताभ्यः स्वाहा
Bhujyu, the eagle, sacrifice, Gandharva, whose gifts and waters are named praise. May he protect for us this sacred knowledge and power. To him, svāhā; to the enclosures, svāhā.
प्रजापतिर् विश्वकर्मा मनो गन्धर्वस् तस्य ऽ ऋक्सामान्य् अप्सरस ऽ एष्टयो नाम । स न ऽ इदं ब्रह्म क्षत्रं पातु तस्मै स्वाहा वाट् ताभ्यः स्वाहा
Prajāpati, the all-creator, mind, Gandharva, whose hymns and melodies are named offerings. May he protect for us this sacred knowledge and power. To him, svāhā; to the enclosures, svāhā.
स नो भुवनस्य पते प्रजापते यस्य त ऽ उपरि गृहा यस्य वेह । अस्मै ब्रह्मणे ऽस्मै क्षत्राय महि शर्म यच्छ स्वाहा
O Lord of the worlds, O Lord of progeny, whose dwellings are above, whose power is here—grant to this Brahman, to this Kshatriya, great protection. Svaha.
समुद्रो ऽसि नभस्वान् आर्द्रदानुः शम्भूर् मयोभूर् अभि मा वाहि स्वाहा । मारुतो ऽसि मरुतां गणः शम्भूर् मयोभूर् अभि मा वाहि स्वाहा । अवस्यूर् असि दुवस्वाञ् छम्भूर् मयोभूर् अभि मा वाहि स्वाहा
You are the ocean, the sky, the moist giver, the auspicious, the bringer of joy—carry me forth. Svaha. You are the wind, the host of the Maruts, the auspicious, the bringer of joy—carry me forth. Svaha. You are the helper, the giver of good, the auspicious, the bringer of joy—carry me forth. Svaha.
यास् ते ऽ अग्ने सूर्ये रुचो दिवम् आतन्वन्ति रश्मिभिः । ताभिर् नो ऽ अद्य सर्वाभी रुचे जनाय नस् कृधि
O Agni, those rays of yours in the sun that stretch across the sky—by all those lights today, make us people radiant.
या वो देवाः सूर्ये रुचो गोष्व् अश्वेषु या रुचः । इन्द्राग्नी ताभिः सर्वाभी रुचं नो धत्त बृहस्पते
O gods, those lights of yours in the sun, in cows, in horses—Indra and Agni, by all those lights, grant us radiance, O Brihaspati.
रुचं नो धेहि ब्राह्मणेषु रुचꣳ राजसु नस् कृधि । रुचं विश्येषु शूद्रेषु मयि धेहि रुचा रुचम्
Grant us radiance among Brahmans, make us radiant among kings; grant radiance among people, among Shudras, place radiance in me with radiance.
तत् त्वा यामि ब्रह्मणा वन्दमानस् तद् आ शास्ते यजमानो हविर्भिः । अहेडमानो वरुणेह बोध्य् उरुशꣳस मा न ऽ आयुः प्र मोषीः
I approach you, honoring with Brahman, the sacrificer worships you with offerings; be aware here, O Varuna, without anger, O wide-minded one, do not take away our life.
स्वर्ण घर्मः स्वाहा । स्वर्णार्कः स्वाहा । स्वर्ण शुक्रः स्वाहा । स्वर्ण ज्योतिः स्वाहा । स्वर्ण सूर्यः स्वाहा
Golden warmth, Svaha. Golden sun, Svaha. Golden brilliance, Svaha. Golden light, Svaha. Golden Surya, Svaha.
अग्निं युनज्मि शवसा घृतेन दिव्यꣳ सुपर्णं वयसा बृहन्तम् । तेन वयं गमेम ब्रध्नस्य विष्टपꣳ स्वो रुहाणा ऽ अधि नाकम् उत्तमम्
I harness Agni with might and with ghee, the heavenly, winged, mighty one; with him may we reach the realm of the radiant, ascending to the highest heaven.
इमौ ते पक्षाव् अजरौ पतत्रिणौ याभ्याꣳ रक्षाꣳस्य् अपहꣳस्य् अग्ने । ताभ्यां पतेम सुकृताम् उ लोकं यत्र ऽ ऋषयो जग्मुः प्रथमजाः पुराणाः
These two wings of yours, Agni, unfailing, flying, with which you drive away the demons—by them may we fly to the world of the virtuous, where the ancient, first-born sages have gone.
इन्दुर् दक्षः श्येन ऽ ऋतावा हिरण्यपक्षः शकुनो भुरण्युः । महान्त् सधस्थे ध्रुव ऽ आ निषत्तो नमस् ते अस्तु मा मा हिꣳसीः
Indu, Daksha, the hawk, the righteous, golden-winged, the bird, the mighty—firmly seated in the great abode; let there be reverence to you, do not harm us.
दिवो मूर्धासि पृथिव्या नाभिर् ऊर्ग् अपाम् ओषधीनाम् । विश्वायुः शर्म सप्रथा नमस् पथे
You are the head of heaven, the navel of earth, the strength of waters and plants; universal shelter, widely spread, reverence to the path.
विश्वस्य मूर्धन्न् अधि तिष्ठसि श्रितः समुद्रे ते हृदयम् अप्स्व् आयुर् अपो दत्तोदधिं भिन्त्त । दिवस् पर्जन्याद् अन्तरिक्षात् पृथिव्यास् ततो नो वृष्ट्याव
You stand above the head of all, established in the ocean; your heart is in the waters, your life is given by the waters, you break open the ocean; from the sky, from the rain, from the atmosphere, from the earth—grant us rain.
इष्टो यज्ञो भृगुभिर् आशीर्दा वसुभिः । तस्य न ऽ इष्टस्य प्रीतस्य द्रविणेहागमेः
The desired sacrifice, blessed by the Bhrigus and Vasus; may we obtain here the wealth of the pleased, desired one.
इष्टो ऽ अग्निर् आहुतः पिपर्तु न ऽ इष्टꣳ हविः । स्वगेदं देवेभ्यो नमः
May the desired Agni, invoked, nourish us; may the desired offering be pleasing; homage to the gods.
