तं त्वा शोचिष्ठ दीदिवः सुम्नाय नूनम् ईमहे सखिभ्यः । स नो बोधि श्रुधी हवम् उरुष्या णोऽ अघायतः समस्मात्
To you, most radiant and shining one, we now approach for favor, for the sake of our friends. Be aware of us, hear our call, and protect us from all harm and misfortune.
इडऽ एह्य् अदित ऽ एहि । काम्या ऽ एत । मयि वः कामधरणं भूयात्
Idā, come here; Aditi, come here; let the desired ones come. May your fulfillment of desires be with me.
सोमानꣳ स्वरणं कृणुहि ब्रह्मणस्पते । कक्षीवन्तं य ऽ औशिजः
O Lord of Prayer, make the Soma resound; let the inspired one, the descendant of Ushij, be accompanied by the vessels.
यो रेवान् यो ऽअमीवहा वसुवित् पुष्टिवर्धनः । स नः सिषक्तु यस् तुरः
May he who is wealthy, who removes disease, who bestows riches and increases prosperity, may that swift one favor us.
मा नः शꣳसोऽ अररुषो धूर्तिः प्र णङ् मर्त्यस्य । रक्षा णो ब्रह्मणस्पते
Let not the curse, the anger, or the hostility of mortals reach us; protect us, O Lord of Prayer.
महि त्रीणाम् अवो ऽस्तु द्युक्षं मित्रस्यार्यम्णः । दुराधर्षं वरुणस्य
May there be great protection from the three: the radiant strength of Mitra and Aryaman, and the invincible power of Varuna.
नहि तेषाम् अमा चन नाध्वसु वारणेषु । ईशे रिपुर् अघशꣳसः
For among them, neither at home nor on the paths, nor in the enclosures, does the hostile, evil-speaking foe have power.
ते हि पुत्रासो ऽ अदितेः प्र जीवसे मर्त्याय । ज्योतिर् यच्छन्त्य् अजस्रम्
For they are the sons of Aditi, who, for the living mortal, constantly bestow light.
कदा चन स्तरीर् असि नेन्द्र सश्चसि दाशुषे । उपोपेन् नु मघवन् भूय ऽ इन् नु ते दानं देवस्य पृच्यते
Never are you exhausted, O Indra; you are present for the worshipper. O generous one, your gift is always sought from the god.
तत् सवितुर् वरेण्यं भर्गो देवस्य धीमहि । धियो यो नः प्रचोदयत्
We contemplate the excellent radiance of Savitar, the god; may he inspire our thoughts.
परि ते दूडभो रथोऽस्माꣳ अश्नोतु विश्वतः । येन रक्षसि दाशुषः
May your chariot, O far-reaching one, encompass us from all sides, by which you protect the worshipper.
भूर् भुवः स्वः सुप्रजाः प्रजाभि स्याꣳ सुवीरो वीरैः सुपोषः पोषैः । नर्य प्रजां मे पाहि । शꣳस्य पशून् मे पाहि । अथर्य पितुं मे पाहि
Earth, atmosphere, and heaven—may we be blessed with good offspring, with heroic sons, with abundant nourishment. Protect my people, O noble one; protect my cattle, O praiseworthy one; protect my father, O unwearied one.
आगन्म विश्ववेदसम् अस्मभ्यं वसुवित्तमम् । अग्ने सम्राड् अभि द्युम्नम् अभि सह ऽ आ यच्छस्व
We have come to the all-knowing, the best giver of wealth for us. O Agni, sovereign, grant us glory and strength.
अयम् अग्निर् गृहपतिर् गार्हपत्यः प्रजाया वसुवित्तमः । अग्ने गृहपते ऽभि द्युम्नम् अभि सह ऽ आ यच्छस्व
This Agni is the lord of the house, the master of the household, the best giver of wealth for the family. O Agni, lord of the house, grant us glory and strength.
अयम् अग्निः पुरीष्यो रयिमान् पुष्टिवर्धनः । अग्ने पुरीष्याभि द्युम्नम् अभि सह ऽ आ यच्छस्व
This Agni is the purifier, rich in treasures, increaser of prosperity. O Agni, purifier, grant us glory and strength.
गृहा मा बिभीत मा वेपध्वमूर्जं बिभ्रत ऽ एमसि । ऊर्जं बिभ्रद् वः सुमनाः सुमेधा गृहान् ऐमि मनसा मोदमानः
O houses, do not fear, do not tremble; bearing strength, we enter. Bearing strength, with good will and good wisdom, I enter the houses, rejoicing in mind.
येषाम् अध्येति प्रवसन् येषु सौमनसो बहुः । गृहान् उप ह्वयामहे ते नो जानन्तु जानतः
In whose homes the traveler dwells, in whom there is much goodwill, to those houses we call; may they recognize us who recognize them.
उपहूताऽ इह गावऽ उपहूताऽ अजावयः । अथो ऽअन्नस्य कीलाल ऽउपहूतो गृहेषु नः । क्षेमाय वः शान्त्यै प्र पद्ये शिवꣳ शग्मꣳ शंयोः शंयोः
The cows are invited here, the goats and sheep are invited; and the essence of food is invited into our homes. For your welfare, for your peace, I proceed—may there be well-being, happiness, and prosperity, ever and ever.
एदम् अगन्म देवयजनं पृथिव्या यत्र देवासो ऽ अजुषन्त विश्वे । इमा ऽ आपः शम् उ मे सन्तु देवीः । ओषधे त्रायस्व । ऋक् सामाभ्या संतरन्तो यजुर्भी रायस् पोषेण सम् इषा मदेम । स्वधिते मैनꣳ हिꣳसीः
We have come to the dwelling of the gods on earth, where all the gods rejoiced. May these divine waters bring me peace. O herb, protect me. Crossing over with Ṛc and Sāman, with Yajus we would prosper in wealth and nourishment. O consecrated one, do not harm him.
आपो ऽ अस्मान् मातरः शुन्धयन्तु घृतेन नो घृतप्वः पुनन्तु । विश्वꣳ हि रिप्रं प्रवहन्ति देवीः । उद् इदाभ्यः शुचिर् आ पूत ऽ एमि । दीक्षातपसोस् तनूर् असि तं त्वा शिवाꣳ शग्मां परि दधे भद्रं वर्णं पुष्यन्
May the waters, our mothers, cleanse us; may those who are rich in ghee purify us with ghee. Indeed, the divine waters carry away all impurity. Now, pure and purified, I approach them. You are the body of consecration and austerity; I place you, auspicious and gracious, for a blessed and radiant form.
महीनां पयो सि वर्चोदा ऽ असि वर्चो मे देहि । वृत्रस्यासि कनीनकश् चक्षुर्दा ऽ असि चक्षुर् मे देहि
You are the milk of the great ones; you are the giver of brilliance—grant me brilliance. You are the pupil of Vṛtra's eye—grant me sight.
चित्पतिर् मा पुनातु । वाक्पतिर् मा पुनातु । देवो मा सविता पुनात्व् अच्छिद्रेण पवित्रेण सूर्यस्य रश्मिभिः । तस्य ते पवित्रपते पवित्रपूतस्य यत्कामः पुने तच् छकेयम्
May the lord of consciousness purify me. May the lord of speech purify me. May the god Savitṛ purify me with an unbroken, pure filter, with the rays of the sun. O lord of the filter, purified by the filter, may I obtain that desire of yours which is pure.
आ वो देवास ऽ ईमहे वामं प्रयत्य् अध्वरे । आ वो देवास आशिषो ऽ यज्ञियासो हवामहे
To you, O gods, we come seeking your favor at the sacrifice. To you, O worshipful gods, we call for blessings.
स्वाहा यज्ञं मनसः । स्वाहोरोर् अन्तरिक्षात् । स्वाहा द्यावापृथिवीभ्याम् । स्वाहा वाताद् आ रभे स्वाहा
Svāhā to the sacrifice from the mind. Svāhā from the two worlds, heaven and earth. Svāhā from the atmosphere. Svāhā from the wind—Svāhā.
आकूत्यै प्रयुजे ऽग्नये स्वाहा मेधायै मनसे ऽग्नये स्वाहा दीक्षायै तपसे ऽग्नये स्वाहा सरस्वत्यै पूष्णे ऽग्नये स्वाहा आपो देवीर् बृहतीर् विश्वशम्भुवो द्यावापृथिवी ऽ उरो ऽ अन्तरिक्ष । बृहस्पतये हविषा विधेम स्वाहा
For intention, I offer to Agni, Svāhā; for wisdom and mind, to Agni, Svāhā; for consecration and austerity, to Agni, Svāhā; for Sarasvatī and Pūṣan, to Agni, Svāhā. To the divine, great, all-beneficent waters, to heaven and earth, to the wide atmosphere—may we offer with oblation to Bṛhaspati, Svāhā.
विश्वो देवस्य नेतुर् मर्तो वुरीत सख्यम् । विश्वो राय ऽ इषुध्यति द्युम्नं वृणीत पुष्यसे स्वाहा
May every mortal seek the friendship of the divine leader. May all strive for wealth; may they choose glory for prosperity—Svāhā.
ऋक्सामयोः शिल्पे स्थः ते वाम् आ रभे ते मा पातमास्य यज्ञस्योदृचः । शर्मासि शर्म मे यच्छ नमस् ते ऽ अस्तु मा मा हिꣳसीः
You dwell in the art of Ṛc and Sāman; I take hold of you both. May you not fall from this sacrifice. You are shelter—grant me shelter. Homage to you; do not harm me.
ऊर्ग् अस्य् आङ्गिरस्यूर्णम्रदा ऽ ऊर्जं मयि धेहि । सोमस्य नीविर् असि । विष्णोः शर्मासि शर्म यजमानस्य । इन्द्रस्य योनिर् असि । सुसस्याः कृषीस् कृधि । उच् छ्रयस्व वनस्पत ऽऊर्ध्वो मा पाह्य् अꣳहसऽ आस्य यज्ञस्योदृचः
You are the strength of this Aṅgiras, the wool-yielder; place strength in me. You are the binding of Soma. You are the shelter of Viṣṇu, the shelter of the sacrificer. You are the womb of Indra. Make the field fruitful with good crops. Rise up, O tree; stand upright, protect me from harm, from what is adverse to this sacrifice.
व्रतं कृणुताग्निर् ब्रह्माग्निर् यज्ञो वनस्पतिर् यज्ञियः । दैवीं धियं मनामहे सुमृडीकाम् अभिष्टये वर्चोधां यज्ञवाहसꣳ सुतीर्था नो ऽअसद् वशे । ये देवा मनोजाता मनोयुजो दक्षक्रतवस् ते नो ऽवन्तु ते नः पान्तु तेभ्यः स्वाहा
Let Agni, the priest, the Brahman, the sacrificial fire, and the sacred tree establish the vow. We invoke the divine insight, gracious and auspicious, for success and brilliance, the bearer of sacrifice, fit for the rite—may it be under our control. May those gods, born of mind, yoked by mind, skilled in wisdom and will, protect us, guard us; to them, Svāhā.
श्वात्राः पीता भवत यूयम् आपो ऽअस्माकम् अन्तर् उदरे सुशेवाः । ता ऽअस्मभ्यम् अयक्ष्माऽ अनमीवा ऽअनागसः स्वदन्तु देवीर् अमृता ऽ ऋतावृधः
May you, O waters, be sweet-tasting and nourishing for us, dwelling within us, easy to serve. May these divine, immortal, truth-upholding waters grant us health, freedom from disease, and innocence.
