भद्रो नोऽअग्निर् आहुतो भद्रा रातिः सुभग भद्रो ऽअध्वरः । भद्राऽ उत प्रशस्तयः
May Agni, when invoked, be auspicious for us; may the gift be auspicious, O fortunate one; may the sacrifice be auspicious, and may the praises also be auspicious.
भद्रा ऽ उत प्रशस्तयो भद्रं मनः कृणुष्व वृत्रतूर्ये । येना समत्सु सासहः
May the praises also be auspicious; make our mind auspicious for victory over obstacles, by which you prevail in battles.
येना समत्सु सासहो ऽव स्थिरा तनुहि भूरि शर्धताम् । वनेमा ते ऽ अभिष्टिभिः
By whom, in battles, you endured—stand firm, make the many victorious; may we win your favor with our praises.
अग्निं तं मन्ये यो वसुर् अस्तं यं यन्ति धेनवः । अस्तम् अर्वन्त ऽ आशवो ऽस्तं नित्यासो वाजिन ऽ इषꣳ स्तोतृभ्य ऽ आ भर
I consider that Agni to be the Wealth-Giver, to whom the cows go at sunset; to whom the swift horses, the tireless ones, go at sunset—bring nourishment to the singers.
सो अग्निर् यो वसुर् गृणे सं यम् आयन्ति धेनवः । सम् अर्वन्तो रघुद्रुवः सꣳ सुजातासः सूरय ऽ इषꣳ स्तोतृभ्य ऽ आ भर
That Agni, whom I praise as the Wealth-Giver, to whom the cows come together, to whom the swift, ever-moving, well-born heroes come together—bring nourishment to the singers.
उभे सुश्चन्द्र सर्पिषो दर्वी श्रीणीष ऽ आसनि । उतो न ऽ उत् पुपूर्या ऽ उक्थेषु शवसस् पत ऽ इषꣳ स्तोतृभ्य ऽ आ भर
Both ladles, bright with clarified butter, are set down; and indeed, you, Lord of might, are filled by us in the hymns—bring nourishment to the singers.
अग्ने तम् अद्याश्वं न स्तोमैः क्रतुं न भद्रꣳ हृदिस्पृशम् । ऋध्यामा त ऽ ओहैः
Agni, today, like a horse with praises, like a noble resolve that touches the heart—may we attain you with our invocations.
अधा ह्य् अग्ने क्रतोर् भद्रस्य दक्षस्य साधोः । रथीर् ऋतस्य बृहतो बभूथ
Thus, Agni, you have become the charioteer of the great truth, of auspicious will, of skillful action.
एभिर् नो ऽ अर्कैर् भवा नो अर्वाङ् स्वर्ण ज्योतिः । अग्ने विश्वेभिः सुमना ऽ अनीकैः
With these hymns, be near to us, O Agni, radiant with light; with all your gracious faces, approach us.
अग्निꣳ होतारं मन्ये दास्वन्तं वसुꣳ सूनुꣳ सहसो जातवेदसं विप्रं न जातवेदसम् । य ऽ ऊर्ध्वया स्वध्वरो देवो देवाच्या कृपा । घृतस्य विभ्राष्टिम् अनु वष्टि शोचिषाऽऽजुह्वानस्य सर्पिषः
I consider Agni the priest, the generous one, the Wealth-Giver, the son of strength, the all-knower, wise as the all-knower; who, with upright rites, is the god among gods, compassionate; who, following the stream of ghee, accepts with his flame the offerings of clarified butter.
अग्ने त्वं नो ऽ अन्तम उत त्राता शिवो भवा वरूथ्यः । वसुर् अग्निर् वसुश्रवा ऽ अच्छा नक्षि द्युमत्तमꣳ रयिं दाः । तं त्वा शोचिष्ठ दीदिवः सुम्नाय नूनम् ईमहे सखिभ्यः
Agni, be our nearest, be our protector, be auspicious as a shelter; Agni, Wealth-Giver, famed for wealth, lead us straight to the most radiant treasure; you, most brilliant, shining with flame, we now invoke for good favor for our friends.
येन ऽ ऋषयस् तपसा सत्रम् आयन्न् इन्धाना ऽ अग्निꣳ स्वर् आभरन्तः । तस्मिन्न् अहं नि दधे नाके ऽ अग्निं यम् आहुर् मनव स्तीर्णबर्हिषम्
By whom the seers, with austerity, approached the session, kindling Agni, bringing forth the light; in that, I have placed myself in the heaven, Agni whom the Manus call the one with the strewn grass.
तं पत्नीभिर् अनु गच्छेम देवाः पुत्रैर् भ्रातृभिर् उत वा हिरण्यैः । नाकं गृभ्णानाः सुकृतस्य लोके तृतीये पृष्ठे ऽ अधि रोचने दिवः
May we follow him with wives, gods with sons, with brothers, or with treasures of gold; grasping the heaven, in the world of the righteous, on the third ridge, in the shining expanse of heaven.
आ वाचो मध्यम् अरुहद् भुरण्युर् अयम् अग्निः सत्पतिश् चेकितानः । पृष्ठे पृथिव्या निहितो दविद्युतद् अधस् पदं कृणुतां ये पृतन्यवः
The lively one has ascended to the midst of speech—this Agni, lord of truth, the wise one; set on the back of the earth, flashing without thunder, let those who strive make a place below.
अयम् अग्निर् वीरतमो वयोधाः सहस्रियो द्योतताम् अप्रयुच्छन् । विभ्राजमानः सरिरस्य मध्य ऽ उप प्र याहि दिव्यानि धाम
This Agni, most heroic, bestower of strength, of a thousand powers, let him shine forth, never failing; blazing in the midst of the body, come near to the divine abodes.
सम्प्रच्यवध्वम् उप सम्प्रयाताग्ने पथो देवयानान् कृणुध्वम् । पुनः कृण्वाना पितरा युवानान्वा ताꣳसीत् त्वयि तन्तुम् एतम्
Move forth together, come together; O Agni, make the divine paths; restoring the ancestors, the young ones, follow them—may this thread be woven in you.
उद् बुध्यस्वाग्ने प्रति जागृहि त्वम् इष्टापूर्ते सꣳ सृजेथाम् अयं च । अस्मिन्त् सधस्थे अध्य् उत्तरस्मिन् विशवे देवा यजमानश् च सीदत
Awaken, Agni, rise up; you create both the desired and the fulfilled; in this assembly, and in the higher one, let the gods and the worshiper sit together.
येन वहसि सहस्रं येनाग्ने सर्ववेदसम् । तेनेमं यज्ञं नो नय स्वर् देवेषु गन्तवे
By which you carry a thousand, by which, Agni, you know all knowledge—by that, lead this sacrifice of ours; let it go to the gods, to the light.
अयं ते योनिर् ऋत्वियो यतो जातो ऽ अरोचथाः । तं जानन्न् अग्न ऽ आरोहाथा नो वर्धया रयिम्
This is your ritual seat, from which you were born and shone forth; knowing that, Agni, ascend—may you increase our wealth.
तपश् च तपस्यश् च शैशिराव् ऋतू ऽ अग्नेर् अन्तःश्लेषो सि कल्पेतां द्यावापृथिवी कल्पन्ताम् आप ऽ ओषधयः कल्पन्ताम् अग्नयः पृथङ् नम ज्यैष्ठ्याय सव्रताः । ये ऽ अग्नयः समनसो न्तरा द्यावापृथिवी ऽ इमे शैशिराव् ऋतू ऽ अभिकल्पमाना ऽ इन्द्रम् इव देवा ऽ अभिसं विशन्तु तया देवतयाङ्गिरस्वद् ध्रुवे सीदतम्
May heat and cold, the winter seasons, the union within Agni, be established; may heaven and earth be established, may the waters and plants be established, may the fires be established separately, for supremacy, with their vows; those fires, united in mind, between heaven and earth, these winter seasons, being established, may the gods come together like Indra; with that divinity, O Angiras, sit firmly.
परमेष्ठी त्वा सादयतु दिवस् पृष्ठे ज्योतिष्मतीम् । विश्वस्मै प्राणायापानाय व्यानायोदानाय प्रतिष्ठायै चरित्राय । सूर्यस् ते ऽधिपतिस् तया देवतयाऽङ्गिरस्वद् ध्रुवा सीद
May the Supreme Lord seat you upon the radiant expanse of the sky; for the breath of all, for inhalation, exhalation, circulation, ascent, establishment, and movement; the Sun is your ruler—by that divine power, O Angiras, be firmly established.
लोकं पृण छिद्रं पृणाथो सीद ध्रुवा त्वम् । इन्द्राग्नी त्वा बृहस्पतिर् अस्मिन् योनाव् असीषदन्
Fill the world, fill its opening, be firmly seated; Indra, Agni, and Brihaspati have blessed you in this womb.
ता ऽ अस्य सूददोहसः सोमꣳ श्रीणन्ति पृश्नयः । जन्मन् देवानां विशस् त्रिष्व् आ रोचने दिवः
Those offspring of Prishni press Soma for him; the birth of the gods shines forth in the three realms of heaven.
इन्द्रं विश्वा अवीवृधन्त् समुद्रव्यचसं गिरः । रथीतमꣳ रथीनां वाजानाꣳ सत्पतिं पतिम्
All voices have exalted Indra, whose domain is the ocean; the foremost charioteer among charioteers, the true lord of prizes, the master.
प्रोथद् अश्वो न यवसे विष्यन् यदा महः संवरणाद् व्य् अस्थात् । आद् अस्य वातो ऽ अनु वाति शोचिर् अध स्म ते व्रजनं कृष्णम् अस्ति
The horse, released, grazes on the grass when the great barrier is removed; then the wind follows its course, its flame spreads, and your path is dark.
आयोष् ट्वा सदने सादयाम्य् अवतश् छायायाꣳ समुद्रस्य हृदये । रश्मीवतीं भास्वतीम् आ या द्यां भास्य् आ पृथिवीम् ओर्व् अन्तरिक्षम्
I seat you in the dwelling, in the shade, in the heart of the ocean; radiant, shining, ascend to the sky, shine upon the earth, the wide atmosphere.
परमेष्ठी त्वा सादयतु दिवस् पृष्ठे व्यचस्वतीं प्रथस्वतीम् दिवं यच्छ दिवं दृꣳह दिवं मा हिꣳसीः । विश्वस्मै प्राणायापानाय व्यानायोदानाय प्रतिष्ठायै चरित्राय । सूर्यस् त्वाभि पातु मह्या स्वस्त्या छर्दिषा शंतमेन तया देवतयाङ्गिरस्वद् ध्रुवे सीदतम्
May the Supreme Lord seat you upon the radiant expanse of the sky; spread out, establish the heavens, strengthen the heavens, do not harm the heavens; for the breath of all, for inhalation, exhalation, circulation, ascent, establishment, and movement; may the Sun protect you with well-being, with a shield, with peace, by that divine power, O Angiras, be firmly established.
सहस्रस्य प्रमासि । सहस्रस्य प्रतिमासि । सहस्रस्योन्मासि । साहस्रो ऽसि । सहस्राय त्वा
You are the measure of a thousand; you are the likeness of a thousand; you are the expansion of a thousand; you are mighty; I dedicate you to the thousand.
नमस् ते रुद्र मन्यव ऽ उतो त ऽ इषवे नमः । बाहुभ्याम् उत ते नमः
Salutations to you, Rudra, O wrathful one, and to your arrow; salutations also to your arms.
या ते रुद्र शिवा तनूर् अघोरापापकाशिनी । तया नस् तन्वा शंतमया गिरिशन्ताभि चाकशीहि
O Rudra, your auspicious form, free from terror and evil, with that gracious body, O mountain-dweller, reveal yourself to us.
