ध्रुवासि धरुणास्तृता विश्वकर्मणा । मा त्वा समुद्रऽउद् वधीन् मा सुपर्णोऽव्यथमाना पृथिवीं दृꣳह
You are firm, established by the maker of all. May the ocean not harm you, nor the swift-winged bird; strengthen the earth, unshaken.
प्रजापतिष् ट्वा सादयत्व् अपा पृष्ठे समुद्रस्येमन् । व्यचस्वतीं प्रथस्वतीं प्रथस्व पृथिव्यसि
May Prajapati subdue you upon the back of the waters, in the ocean here. Spread out, expand, shine forth; you are the earth.
भूर् असि भूमिर् अस्य् अदितिर् असि विश्वधाया विश्वस्य भुवनस्य धर्त्री । पृथिवीं यच्छ पृथिवीं दृꣳह पृथिवीं मा हिꣳसीः
You are Bhū, you are the earth, you are Aditi, the universal supporter, bearer of all worlds. Hold the earth, strengthen the earth, do not injure the earth.
विश्वस्मै प्राणायापानाय व्यानायोदानाय प्रतिष्ठायै चरित्राय । अग्निष् ट्वाभि पातु मह्या स्वस्त्या छर्दिषा शंतमेन तया देवतयाङ्गिरस्वद् ध्रुवा सीद
For all breath, inhalation, exhalation, upward breath, foundation, and movement—may Agni protect you for my well-being, with a shield, with peace, with that divine Angiras power; sit firmly.
काण्डात्-काण्डात् प्ररोहन्ती परुषः-परुषस् परि । एवा नो दूर्वे प्र तनु सहस्रेण शतेन च
O Durva grass, which sprouts again and again from every joint, from every rough part—so may you, with a hundred and a thousand shoots, spread forth for us.
या शतेन प्रतनोषि सहस्रेण विरोहसि । तस्यास् ते देवीष्टके विधेम हविषा वयम्
You, who stretch out in a hundred ways and grow in a thousand, to you, O divine brick, we offer worship with oblation.
यास् ते ऽ अग्ने सूर्ये रुचो दिवम् आतन्वन्ति रश्मिभिः । ताभिर् नो ऽ अद्य सर्वाभी रुचे जनाय नस् कृधि
O Agni, those rays of yours in the sun that extend to the sky with their beams—by all those lights today, make us shine among people.
या वो देवाः सूर्ये रुचो गोष्व् अश्वेषु या रुचः । इन्द्राग्नी ताभिः सर्वाभी रुचं नो धत्त बृहस्पते
O gods, the lights of yours in the sun, the lights among cows and horses—Indra and Agni, with all those lights, O Brihaspati, bestow radiance upon us.
विराड् ज्योतिर् अधारयत् । स्वराड् ज्योतिर् अधारयत् । प्रजापतिष् ट्वा सादयतु पृष्ठे पृथिव्या ज्योतिष्मतीम् । विश्वस्मै प्राणायापानाय व्यानाय विश्वं ज्योतिर् यच्छ । अग्निष्टे ऽधिपतिस् तया देवतयाङ्गिरस्वद् ध्रुवा सीद
The sovereign established the light; the self-ruler established the light; may Prajapati seat you, radiant, on the earth’s surface; grant all light to breath, to expiration, to circulation; Agni, you are the lord—by that divinity, O Angiras, sit firm.
मधुश् च माधवश् च वासन्तिकाव् ऋतू ऽ अग्नेर् अन्तःश्लेषोऽसि कल्पेतां द्यावापृथिवी कल्पन्ताम् आप ऽ ओषधयः कल्पन्ताम् अग्नयः पृथङ् नम ज्यैष्ठ्याय सव्रताः । ये ऽ अग्नयः समनसो ऽन्तरा द्यावापृथिवी ऽ इमे वासन्तिकाव् ऋतू ऽअभिकल्पमाना ऽ इन्द्रम् इव देवा ऽ अभिसंविशन्तु तया देवतयाङ्गिरस्वद् ध्रुवे सीदतम्
Madhu and Madhava, the spring seasons, are joined within Agni; may heaven and earth be prepared, may the waters and plants be prepared, may the fires, each with their own vow, be prepared for supremacy; let those fires, united in mind, between heaven and earth, those spring seasons, approach like the gods approach Indra; by that divinity, O Angiras, sit firm.
अषाढासि सहमाना सहस्वारातीः सहस्व पृतनायतः । सहस्रवीर्यासि सा मा जिन्व ॥ 27 मधु वाता ऽ ऋतायते मधु क्षरन्ति सिन्धवः । माध्वीर् नः सन्त्व् ओषधीः
You are Ashadha, enduring, conquering enemies, conquering those who lead armies; you possess a thousandfold strength—may I win with you.
मधु नक्तम् उतोषसो मधुमत् पार्थिवꣳ रजः । मधु द्यौर् अस्तु नः पिता
Sweet is night and dawn, sweet is the earthly realm; may the sky, our father, be sweet for us.
मधुमान् नो वनस्पतिर् मधुमाँ२ऽ अस्तु सूर्यः । माध्वीर् गावो भवन्तु नः
May the forest tree be sweet for us, may the sun be sweet for us; may our cows be filled with sweetness.
अपां गम्भन्त् सीद मा त्वा सूर्योऽभि ताप्सीन् माग्निर् वैश्वानरः । अच्छिन्नपत्राः प्रजा ऽ अनुवीक्षस्वानु त्वा दिव्या वृष्टिः सचताम्
Settle deep in the waters; may the sun not scorch you, nor Agni Vaiśvānara; let your offspring be unbroken in their line—may the celestial rain accompany you.
त्रीन्त् समुद्रान्त् सम् असृपत् स्वर्गान् अपां पतिर् वृषभ ऽ इष्टकानाम् । पुरीषं वसानः सुकृतस्य लोके तत्र गच्छ यत्र पूर्वे परेताः
The lord of waters, the bull of the bricks, flowed together through three oceans, through the heavens, clothed in excrement, in the world of good deeds—go there where the ancestors have gone before.
मही द्यौः पृथिवी च न ऽ इमं यज्ञं मिमिक्षताम् । पिपृतां नो भरीमभिः
May the great heaven and earth measure out this sacrifice for us; may they nourish us with abundance.
विष्णोः कर्माणि पश्यत यतो व्रतानि पस्पशे । इन्द्रस्य युज्यः सखा
Behold the deeds of Vishnu, from where the sacred laws are made manifest; he is the fitting friend of Indra.
ध्रुवासि धरुणेतो जज्ञे प्रथमम् एभ्यो योनिभ्यो ऽ अधि जातवेदाः । स गायत्र्या त्रिष्टुभानुष्टुभा च देवेभ्यो हव्यं वहतु प्रजानन्
You are firm, the support, born first from these origins, O Jātavedas; may he, knowing, carry the offering to the gods with the Gāyatrī, Triṣṭubh, and Anuṣṭubh meters.
इषे राये रमस्व सहसे द्युम्न ऽ ऊर्जेऽ अपत्याय । सम्राड् असि स्वराड् असि सारस्वतौ त्वोत्सौ प्रावताम्
Delight in nourishment, in wealth, in strength, in glory, in vigor, for offspring; you are the sovereign, the self-ruler—may Sarasvatī and the two rivers grant you abundance.
अग्ने युक्ष्वा हि ये तवाश्वासो देव साधवः । अरं वहन्ति मन्यवे
Agni, yoke those horses of yours, O god, who are virtuous; they carry the offering swiftly.
युक्ष्वा हि देवहूतमाँ२ऽ अश्वाँ२ऽ अग्ने रथीर् इव । नि होता पूर्व्यः सदः
Yoke, indeed, O Agni, those horses called by the gods, like charioteers; let the ancient Hotar sit in the seat.
सम्यक् स्रवन्ति सरितो न धेना ऽ अन्तर् हृदा मनसा पूयमानाः । घृतस्य धारा ऽ अभि चाकशीमि हिरण्ययो वेतसो मध्ये ऽ अग्नेः
The rivers flow together, like cows, purified within the heart and mind; I behold streams of ghee, golden reeds, in the midst of Agni.
ऋचे त्वा रुचे त्वा भासे त्वा ज्योतिषे त्वा । अभूद् इदं विश्वस्य भुवनस्य वाजिनम् अग्नेर् वैश्वानरस्य च
For the hymn, for the radiance, for the brilliance, for the light, you have arisen as the steed of the world, of Agni and of Vaiśvānara.
अग्निर् ज्योतिषा ज्योतिष्मान् रुक्मो वर्चसा वर्चस्वान् । सहस्रदा ऽ असि सहस्राय त्वा
Agni, radiant with light, resplendent with gold, endowed with brilliance, you are the thousand-giver; for the thousand, you.
आदित्यं गर्भं पयसा सम् अङ्धि सहस्रस्य प्रतिमां विश्वरूपम् । परि वृङ्धि हरसा माभि मꣳस्थाः शतायुषं कृणुहि चीयमानः
Mix the essence to the embryo of the sun, the image of the thousand, of all forms; expand with vigor, do not falter, make him of a hundred years as you grow.
वातस्य जूतिं वरुणस्य नाभिम् अश्वं जज्ञानꣳ सरिरस्य मध्ये । शिशुं नदीनाꣳ हरिम् अद्रिबुध्नम् अग्ने मा हिꣳसीः परमे व्योमन्
The movement of the wind, the navel of Varuṇa, the horse born in the midst of the body, the child of the rivers, the tawny one, rooted in the mountain—Agni, do not harm him in the highest heaven.
अजस्रम् इन्दुम् अरुषं भुरण्युम् अग्निम् ईडे पूर्वचित्तिं नमोभिः । स पर्वभिर् ऋतुशः कल्पमानो गां मा हिꣳसीर् अदितिं विराजम्
I praise Agni, the ceaseless, red, shining one, ancient in wisdom, with reverence; as he arranges himself seasonally with the mountains, do not harm the earth, Aditi, or the shining one.
वरूत्रीं त्वष्टुर् वरुणस्य नाभिम् अविं जज्ञानाꣳ रजसः परस्मात् । महीꣳ साहस्रीम् असुरस्य मायाम् अग्ने मा हिꣳसीः परमे व्योमन्
The covering of Tvaṣṭṛ, the navel of Varuṇa, the sheep born from the highest realm; the great, thousandfold magic of the Asura—Agni, do not harm her in the highest heaven.
यो ऽ अग्निर् अग्नेर् अधिय् अजायत शोकात् पृथिव्या ऽ उत वा दिवस् परि । येन प्रजा विश्वकर्मा जजान तम् अग्ने हेडः परि ते वृणक्तु
He who is Agni, born from Agni, from the heat of the earth or from the sky; by whom the creator fashioned the offspring—Agni, may your favor encompass him.
चित्रं देवानाम् उद् अगाद् अनीकं चक्षुर् मित्रस्य वरुणस्याग्नेः । आप्रा द्यावापृथिवी ऽ अन्तरिक्षꣳ सूर्य ऽ आत्मा जगतस् तस्थुषश् च
The wondrous face of the gods has arisen, the eye of Mitra, Varuṇa, and Agni; it fills the heavens, earth, and space—Sūrya is the soul of all that moves and stands.
