Yield milk as you desire, wish-granting one, for Mitra and for Varuna, for Indra, the Ashvins, Pushan, for the people, for the plants.
Be released, O unyoked ones, divine-going; we have reached the far side of darkness, we have attained this light.
With the year, together with the seasons; with dawn, together with the ruddy ones; with the Ashvins, together with their powers; with the sun, together with his charioteer; with Agni Vaiśvānara, with Ida, with ghee—svāhā!
Those plants that were born first, in ancient times, for the gods, in three ages—of the brown ones I now recall a hundred abodes and seven.
A hundred, O mothers, are your abodes, a thousand are your shoots; therefore, O Indra of a hundred deeds, may you all make this my remedy.
Rejoice, O plants, flowering, fruitful; like swift horses, let the herbs, bearing fruit, carry us across.
Plants, thus I address you as mothers, you goddesses; may I obtain a horse, a cow, clothing, and your spirit, O plants.
Your seat is in the ashvattha tree, your dwelling is made in the leaf; you are nourished by cows, it is said, when you renew a man.
Where the plants have gathered, like kings in an assembly—he is called a sage, a healer, who drives away demons and disease.
Rich in horses, rich in Soma, increasing strength, full of vigor—may all the plants come to us for complete safety.
The vigor of the plants departs, just as cows leave the enclosure; O Purusha, you are the self of those who bring wealth.
They have crossed beyond all boundaries, like a thief entering the herd; the plants have been shaken, whatever impurity was in the body.
When I, seeking strength, have taken these plants in my hand, the essence of disease perishes, just as the grip of death once did.
Wherever, limb by limb, the plants spread, there drive away disease, as a fierce warrior does in the midst of battle.
Fall away together with disease, with the bird cāṣa and the kikidīva; vanish with the gust of the wind, disappear with the departing mist.
Let one of you protect another, and another support yet another; all of you, united, grant me this favor.
Those that bear fruit, those that are fruitless, those without flowers, and those with flowers, born of Brihaspati—may they release us from harm.
May they release me from curses, and also from the wrath of Varuna; and from the fetter of Yama, from every divine offense.
The plants fall down, they speak from the sky all around; the person who partakes of this life does not perish.
You are the foremost among the many, wise, hundred-eyed plants of Soma the king, for fulfilling desire and bringing joy.
You are the plants of Soma the king, spread over the earth, born of Brihaspati—grant her your strength.
Those who hear this nearby, and those who have gone far away—all the herbs, gathering together, grant her your strength.
May the one who digs you up not be harmed, nor the one for whom I dig you; may all our bipeds and quadrupeds be free from illness.
The plants spoke together with Soma the king: 'For whom the Brahmin prepares, O king, we shall deliver him.'
You are the destroyer of swelling, the disperser of piles; and you are the ripener and destroyer of a hundred diseases.
You were dug by the Gandharvas, by Indra, by Brihaspati; you, O plant, Soma the wise king released from disease.
Withstand for me the hostilities, withstand the attack of the enemy; withstand all evil, O plant, enduring one.
Long life to the one for whom you are dug, and to whom I dig you; and may you, being long-lived, grow with a hundred roots.
O best of plants, your trees are supports; let that support be ours, whoever assails us.
Let not him who is the begetter of earth or who, true in law, has spread the sky, harm us; nor he who first begot the shining waters— to which god shall we offer with oblation?
