अग्नेऽ दब्धायो ऽशीतम पाहि मा दिद्योः । पाहि प्रसित्यै । पाहि दुरिष्ट्यै । पाहि दुरद्मन्याऽ अविषं नः पितुं कृणु । सुषदा योनौ स्वाहा वाट् । अग्नये संवेशपतये स्वाहा । सरस्वत्यै यशोभगिन्यै स्वाहा
O Agni, infallible, unaging, protect me; may I not be harmed by lightning. Protect for prosperity. Protect from evil. Protect from ill-will; make us free from harm. In a good seat, svāhā to the enclosure. To Agni, lord of the assembly, svāhā. To Sarasvatī, bestower of glory, svāhā.
वेदो ऽसि येन त्वं देव वेद देवेभ्यो वेदोऽ भवस् तेन मह्यं वेदो भूयाः । देवा गातुविदो गातुं वित्त्वा गातुम् इत । मनसस् पतऽ इमं देव यज्ञꣳ स्वाहा वाते धाः
You are knowledge, by which you, O god, know; you become knowledge for the gods; by that, may you become knowledge for me. The gods, knowing the path, go on the path. O swift one of the mind, carry this sacrifice, svāhā; place it in the wind.
सं बर्हिर् अङ्क्ताꣳ हविषा घृतेन सम् आदित्यैर् वसुभिः सं मरुद्भिः । सम् इन्द्रो विश्वदेवेभिर् अङ्क्तां दिव्यं नभो गच्छतु यत् स्वाहा
May the barhis be anointed together with the oblation, with ghee, together with the Ādityas, with the Vasus, together with the Maruts. May Indra, with all the gods, anoint it; may it go to the heavenly sky, svāhā.
कस् त्वा वि मुञ्चति स त्वा वि मुञ्चति कस्मै त्वा वि मुञ्चति तस्मै त्वा वि मुञ्चति । पोषाय । रक्षसां भागो ऽसि
Who releases you? He releases you. To whom does he release you? To him he releases you. For prosperity. You are the share of the Rakṣasas.
सं वर्चसा पयसा सं तनूभिर् अगन्महि मनसा सꣳ शिवेन । त्वष्टा सुदत्रो वि दधातु रायोऽ नुमार्ष्टु तन्वो यद् विलिष्टम्
May we unite with brilliance, with nourishment, with strong bodies, with a mind that is auspicious. May Tvaṣṭṛ, the gracious giver, bestow wealth upon us; may he cleanse away from our bodies whatever is impure.
दिवि विष्णुर् व्यक्रꣳस्त जागतेन छन्दसा ततो निर्भक्तो यो ऽस्मान् द्वेष्टि यं च वयं द्विष्मः । अन्तरिक्षे विष्णुर् व्यक्रꣳस्त जागतेन छन्दसा ततो निर्भक्तो योऽ स्मान् द्वेष्टि यं च वयं द्विष्मः । पृथिव्यां विष्णुर् व्यक्रꣳस्त जागतेन छन्दसा ततो निर्भक्तो यो ऽस्मान् द्वेष्टि यं च वयं द्विष्मः । अस्माद् ऽअन्नादस्यै प्रतिष्ठायै । ऽ अगन्म स्वः । सं ज्योतिषाभूम
Viṣṇu strides in the sky with the meter of the Jagat; from there, may he remove the one who hates us and whom we hate. Viṣṇu strides in the midspace with the meter of the Jagat; from there, may he remove the one who hates us and whom we hate. Viṣṇu strides on the earth with the meter of the Jagat; from there, may he remove the one who hates us and whom we hate. From this food, for this foundation, we have reached heaven. We have become united with the light.
स्वयम्भूर् असि श्रेष्ठो रश्मिर् ऽवर्चोदा असि वर्चो मे देहि । सूर्यस्यावृतम् अन्व् आवर्ते
You are self-born, the highest ray, the bestower of radiance; grant me radiance. I turn back what is covered of the sun.
अग्ने गृहपते सुगृहपतिस् त्वयाऽग्ने ऽहं गृहपतिना भूयासꣳ सुगृहपतिस् त्वं मयाऽग्ने गृहपतिना भूयाः । अस्थूरि णौ गार्हपत्यानि सन्तु शतꣳ हिमाः । सूर्यस्यावृतम् अन्व् आवर्ते
O Agni, lord of the house, may you be a good householder; with you, Agni, as householder, may I become a good householder. May you, Agni, be a good householder with me as householder. May our household fires stand firm for a hundred winters. I turn back what is covered of the sun.
अग्ने व्रतपते व्रतम् अचारिषं तद् अशकं तन् मेऽ राधि । इदम् अहं यऽ एवाऽस्मि सोऽस्मि
O Agni, lord of vows, I have observed the vow; I have accomplished it—grant me that. This I am, just as I truly am.
अग्नये कव्यवाहनाय स्वाहा । सोमाय पितृमते स्वाहा । अपहता ऽ असुरा रक्षाꣳसि वेदिषदः
To Agni, the carrier of offerings to the ancestors, svāhā! To Soma, the lord of the ancestors, svāhā! Drive away the demons and the evil spirits who dwell at the altar.
ये रूपाणि प्रतिमुञ्चमाना ऽ असुराः सन्तः स्वधया चरन्ति । परापुरो निपुरो ये भरन्त्य् अग्निष्टाँन् लोकात् प्र णुदात्य् अस्मात्
Those forms which, putting on disguises, the demons move about by their own power—those who bring forth obstacles, those who carry away, drive them far from this world of Agni.
अत्र पितरो मादयध्वं यथाभागम् आ वृषायध्वम् । अमीमदन्त पितरो यथाभागम् आ वृषायिषत
Here, O ancestors, rejoice according to your share; become invigorated. The ancestors have delighted, each according to their share; they have become invigorated.
नमो वः पितरो रसाय नमो वः पितरः शोषाय नमो वः पितरो जीवाय नमो वः पितरः स्वधायै नमो वः पितरो घोराय नमो वः पितरो मन्यवे नमो वः पितरः पितरो नमो वो गृहान्नः पितरो दत्त सतो वः पितरो देष्मैतद्वः पितरो वासः
Homage to you, ancestors, for sap; homage to you, ancestors, for dryness; homage to you, ancestors, for life; homage to you, ancestors, for the offering; homage to you, ancestors, for fierceness; homage to you, ancestors, for wrath; homage to you, ancestors, ancestors; homage to you, ancestors, give us food from your houses; homage to you, ancestors, grant us this; homage to you, ancestors, clothing.
आ धत्त पितरो गर्भं कुमारं पुष्करस्रजम् । यथेह पुरुषो ऽसत्
Receive, O ancestors, the embryo, the boy with the lotus garland, just as a man does here.
ऊर्जं वहन्तीर् अमृतं घृतं पयः कीलालं परिस्रुतम् । स्वधा स्थ तर्पयत मे पितॄन्
Bearing strength, immortal, clarified butter, milk, sweet drink, and flowing liquid—be the offering, satisfy my ancestors.
समिधाग्निं दुवस्यत घृतैर् बोधयतातिथिम् । आस्मिन् हव्या जुहोतन
Worship Agni with kindling; awaken the guest with offerings of ghee. Offer the oblations here.
सुसमिद्धाय शोचिषे घृतं तीव्रं जुहोतन । अग्नये जातवेदसे
To the well-kindled flame, offer strong ghee; to Agni, the knower of all births.
तं त्वा समिद्भिर् अङ्गिरो घृतेन वर्धयामसि । बृहच्छोचा यविष्ठ्य
With kindling sticks, O Angiras, with ghee, we make you grow, O Agni, of great radiance, youngest one.
उप त्वाग्ने हविष्मतीर् घृताचीर् यन्तु हर्यत । जुषस्व समिधो मम
May the ghee-bearing, oblation-rich offerings come to you, Agni; accept my kindling sticks.
भूर् भुवः स्वः । द्यौर् इव भूम्ना पृथिवीव वरिम्णा । तस्यास् ते पृथिवि देवयजनि पृष्ठेऽ ग्निम् अन्नादम् अन्नाद्याया दधे
Bhūr, Bhuvaḥ, Svaḥ. As the sky by its vastness, as the earth by its breadth—on your back, O earth, born for the gods, I place Agni, the eater of food, for the sake of food.
आयं गौः पृश्निर् अक्रमीद् असदन् मातरं पुरः । पितरं च प्रयन्त्स्वः
This cow, speckled, has stepped forth; she has approached her mother first, and her father, seeking them.
अन्तश् चरति रोचनास्य प्राणाद् अपानती । व्यख्यन् महिषो दिवम्
He moves within the shining realms; from his breath, the exhalation arises. The great bull has declared the sky.
त्रिꣳशद् धाम वि राजति वाक् पतङ्गाय धीयते । प्रति वस्तोर् अह द्युभिः
Speech shines forth in thirty abodes; it is offered to the flaming one; each day, in turn, with the bright ones.
अग्निर् ज्योतिर् ज्योतिर् अग्निः स्वाहा । सूर्यो ज्योतिर् ज्योतिः सूर्यः स्वाहा । अग्निर् वर्चो ज्योतिर् वर्चः स्वाहा । सूर्यो वर्चो ज्योतिर् वर्चः स्वाहा । ज्योतिः सूर्यः सूर्यो ज्योतिः स्वाहा
Agni is light, light is Agni, svāhā. The sun is light, light is the sun, svāhā. Agni is brilliance, light is brilliance, svāhā. The sun is brilliance, light is brilliance, svāhā. Light is the sun, the sun is light, svāhā.
सजूर् देवेन सवित्रा सजू रात्र्येन्द्रवत्या । जुषाणो ऽअग्निर् वेतु स्वाहा । सजूर् देवेन सवित्रा सजू उषसेन्द्रवत्या । जुषाणः सूर्यो वेतु स्वाहा
With god Savitar, with the night endowed with Indra, may Agni, accepting, come here, svāhā. With god Savitar, with the dawn endowed with Indra, may the sun, accepting, come here, svāhā.
उपप्रयन्तो ऽ अध्वरं मन्त्रं वोचेमाग्नये । आरे ऽ अस्मे च शृण्वते
As we approach the sacrifice, let us speak the mantra to Agni; may he, who listens, be favorable to us.
अग्निर् मूर्धा दिवः ककुत् पतिः पृथिव्या ऽ अयम् । अपाᳬं रेताᳬंसि जिन्वति
Agni is the crown of heaven, the summit, the lord of earth; he quickens the seeds of the waters.
उभा वाम् इन्द्राग्नी ऽ आहुवध्या ऽ उभा राधसः सह मादयध्यै । उभा दाताराव् इषाꣳ रयीणाम् उभा वाजस्य सातये हुवे वाम्
Both of you, Indra and Agni, are to be invoked; both, with your wealth, delight us together. Both givers of food and riches, for the gaining of strength, I call upon you both.
अयं ते योनिर् ऋत्वियो यतो जातो ऽ अरोचथाः । तं जानन्न् अग्न ऽ आरोहाथा नो वर्धया रयिम्
This is your seat, O seasonal one, from which you were born and shone forth. Knowing that, O Agni, ascend; increase our wealth.
अयम् इह प्रथमो धायि धातृभिर् होता यजिष्ठो ऽ अध्वरेष्व् ईड्यः । यम् अप्नवानो भृगवो विरुरुचुर् वनेषु चित्रं विभ्वं विशे-विशे
Here, first among the givers, the Hotṛ is placed, most worthy of sacrifice, to be praised at the rites; whom the Bhrigus, the sons of Apnavāna, made manifest among the forests, wondrous, manifold, in every clan.
