प्रेद् अग्ने ज्योतिष्मान् याहि शिवेभिर् अर्चिभिष् ट्वम् । बृहद्भिर् भानुभिर् भासन् मा हिꣳसीस् तन्वा प्रजाः
Go forth, O Agni, shining with light, with auspicious flames; with great rays, with brilliance, do not harm our offspring or bodies.
अक्रन्दद् अग्नि स्तनयन्न् इव द्यौः क्षामा रेरिहद् वीरुधः समञ्जन् । सद्यो जज्ञानो वि हीम् इद्धो ऽ अख्यद् आ रोदसी भानुना भात्य् अन्तः
Agni roared, thundering like the sky; the earth trembled, the plants adorned themselves; newly born, he blazed forth, spreading, shining between heaven and earth with his radiance.
प्र-प्रायम् अग्निर् भरतस्य शृण्वे वि यत् सूर्यो न रोचते बृहद् भाः । अभि यः पूरुं पृतनासु तस्थउ दीदाय दैव्यो ऽ अतिथिः शिवो नः
The fame of Agni, of the Bharata, is heard, when the sun does not shine with its great light; he who stood firm for Pūru in battles, the divine guest, shone forth, auspicious for us.
आपो देवीः प्रति गृभ्णीत भस्मैतत् स्योने कृणुध्वꣳ सुरभा ऽ उ लोके । तस्मै नमन्तां जनयः सुपत्नीर् मातेव पुत्रं बिभृताप्स्व् एनत्
Receive, O divine Waters, this sacred ash; make it gentle, fragrant in this world; may the clans bow to him, may he beget good wives; as a mother carries her son, so bear away this sin in the waters.
अप्स्व् अग्ने सधिष् टव सौषधीर् अनु रुध्यसे । गर्भै सन् जायसे पुनः
O Agni, you dwell among the waters, together with the plants; you are born again from their wombs.
गर्भोऽअस्य् ओषधीनां गर्भो वनस्पतीनाम् । गर्भो विश्वस्य भूतस्याग्ने गर्भोऽअपाम् असि
You are the embryo of the plants, the embryo of the trees, the embryo of all beings, O Agni, you are the embryo of the waters.
प्रसद्य भस्मना योनिम् अपश् च पृथिवीम् अग्ने । सꣳसृज्य मातृभिष् ट्वं ज्योतिष्मान् पुनर् आसदः
Having entered your womb with ash, and the waters and the earth, O Agni, you, shining, are joined with your mothers and sit again.
पुनर् आसद्य सदनम् अपश् च पृथिवीम् अग्ने । शेषे मातुर् यथोपस्थे ऽन्तर् अस्याꣳ शिवतमः
Having returned again to your seat, to the waters and the earth, O Agni, you lie as in the lap of your mother, most auspicious within her.
पुनर् ऊर्जा निवर्तस्व पुनर् अग्न ऽ इषायुषा । पुनर् नः पाह्य् अꣳहसः
Return again with nourishment, return, O Agni, with food and life; protect us again from harm.
सह रय्या नि वर्तस्वाग्ने पिन्वस्व धारया । विश्वप्स्न्या विश्वतस् परि
Return with wealth, O Agni, thrive with sustenance; spread out on every side, everywhere.
बोधा मे ऽ अस्य वचसो यविष्ठ मꣳहिष्ठस्य प्रभृतस्य स्वधावः । पीयति त्वो ऽ अनु त्वो गृणाति वन्दारुष् टे तन्वं वन्दे ऽ अग्ने
Hear my words, youngest one, most mighty, endowed with your own power; he drinks after you, he praises you, the worshipper honors your form, O Agni.
स बोधि सूरिर् मघवा वसुपते वसुदावन् । युयोध्य् अस्मद् द्वेषाꣳसि । विश्वकर्मणे स्वाहा
Be awake, O wise one, generous lord of wealth, bestower of riches; drive away our hatreds; homage to the all-creating one.
पुनस् त्वाऽऽदित्या रुद्रा वसवः सम् इन्धतां पुनर् ब्रह्माणो वसुनीथ यज्ञैः । घृतेन त्वं तन्वं वर्धयस्व सत्याः सन्तु यजमानस्य कामाः
May the Ādityas, Rudras, Vasus kindle you again; may the priests bring riches to you with sacrifices; with ghee, increase your form; may the sacrificer's true desires be fulfilled.
अपेत वीत वि च सर्पतातो ये ऽत्र स्थ पुराणा ये च नूतनाः । अदाद् यमो ऽवसानं पृथिव्या ऽ अक्रन्न् इमं पितरो लोकम् अस्मै
Depart, vanish, scatter away, you who are here, both ancient and new; Yama has given a resting place on earth; the ancestors have made this world for him.
संज्ञानम् असि । कामधरणम् । मयि ते कामधरणं भूयात् । अग्नेर् भस्मास्य् अग्नेः पुरीषम् असि । चित स्थ परिचित ऽ ऊर्ध्वचितः श्रयध्वम्
You are consciousness; you are the sustainer of desire. May the sustaining of desire be in me for you. You are the ashes of Agni, you are Agni’s purīṣa. O you who are laid on the funeral pyre, you who are well-arranged, you who are placed above—take refuge.
अयꣳ सो ऽ अग्निर् यस्मिन्त् सोमम् इन्द्रः सुतं दधे जठरे वावशानः । सहस्रिणं वाजम् अत्यं न सप्तिꣳ ससवान्त् सन्त् स्तूयसे जातवेदः
This is that Agni, in whom Indra placed the pressed Soma, swelling in his belly. You are praised, O Jātavedas, like a thousandfold prize, like a swift horse yoked to the chariot, by those who desire strength.
अग्ने यत् ते दिवि वर्चः पृथिव्यां यद् ओषधीष्व् अप्स्व् आ यजत्र । येनान्तरिक्षम् उर्व् आततन्थ त्वेषः स भानुर् अर्णवो नृचक्षाः
Agni, whatever radiance is yours in heaven, whatever is on earth, in plants, and in waters—by which you have stretched out the wide midspace—by that brilliance, that shining one, that ocean, that seer among men.
अग्ने दिवोऽ अर्णम् अच्छा जिगास्य् अच्छा देवाꣳ ऽ ऊचिषे धिष्ण्या ये । या रोचने परस्तात् सूर्यस्य याश् चावस्ताद् उपतिष्ठन्त ऽ आपः
Agni, you wish to reach the flood of heaven; you approach the gods, the mighty ones. The waters that stand in the shining realms beyond the sun, and those below, attend you.
पुरीष्यासो ऽ अग्नयः प्रावणेभिः सजोषसः । जुषन्तां यज्ञम् अद्रुहोऽनमीवा ऽइषो महीः
The purīṣya fires, united with their attendants, may they, free from falsehood and disease, accept the sacrifice and grant great blessings.
इडाम् अग्ने पुरुदꣳसꣳ सनिं गोः शश्वत्तमꣳ हवमानाय साध । स्यान् नः सूनुस् तनयो विजावाग्ने सा ते सुमतिर् भूत्व् अस्मे
Agni, grant us the ever-desired, abundant, and lasting wealth of cows, for the one who invokes you. May our son be victorious, O Agni; may your favor be with us.
अयं ते योनिर् ऋत्वियो यतो जातो ऽ अरोचथाः । तं जानन्न् अग्न ऽ आ रोहाथा नो वर्धया रयिम्
This is your sacrificial seat, from which you were born and shone forth. Knowing that, O Agni, ascend it for us and increase our wealth.
चिद् असि तया देवतयाङ्गिरस्वद् ध्रुवा सीद । परिचिद् असि तया देवतयाङ्गिरस्वद् ध्रुवा सीद
You are established by that divinity, O Angiras; sit firm. You are established by that divinity, O Angiras; sit firm.
लोकं पृण छिद्रं पृणाथो सीद ध्रुवा त्वम् । इन्द्राग्नी त्वा बृहस्पतिर् अस्मिन् योनाव् असीषदन्
Fill the world, fill the opening; sit firm. Indra and Agni, and Bṛhaspati, have established you in this womb.
ता अस्य सूददोहसः सोमꣳ श्रीणन्ति पृश्नयः । जन्मन् देवानां विशस् त्रिष्व् आ रोचने दिवः
The Prishnis, skilled in milking, strain Soma for him, the drinker of sweet juice, in the three shining realms of heaven, the birthplaces of the gods.
इन्द्रं विश्वा ऽ अवीवृधन्त् समुद्रव्यचसं गिरः । रथीतमꣳ रथीनां वाजानाꣳ सत्पतिं पतिम्
All the hymns have magnified Indra, whose expanse is like the ocean, the best charioteer among charioteers, the true lord of prizes, the master.
समितꣳ सं कल्पेथाꣳ सम्प्रियौ रोचिष्णू सुमनस्यमानौ । इषमूर्जम् अभि संवसानौ
May you two be united in purpose, united in affection, shining, and well-disposed; dwelling together, may you obtain nourishment and strength.
सं वां मनाꣳसि सं व्रता सम् उ चित्तान्य् आकरम् । अग्ने पुरीष्याधिपा भव त्वं न ऽ इषमूर्जं यजमानाय धेहि
May your minds, your vows, your thoughts be united. Agni, be the lord of the purīṣya fires for us; grant nourishment and strength to the sacrificer.
अग्ने त्वं पुरीष्यो रयिमान् पुष्टिमाꣳ२ ऽ असि । शिवाः कृत्वा दिशः सर्वाः स्वं योनिम् इहासदः
Agni, you are the purīṣya fire, rich and full of prosperity. Having made all directions auspicious, sit here in your own seat.
भवतं नः समनसौ सचेतसाव् अरेपसौ । मा यज्ञꣳ हिꣳसिष्टं मा यज्ञपतिं जातवेदसौ शिवौ भवतम् अद्य नः
May you both be of one mind, conscious, and without stain for us. Do not harm the sacrifice, do not harm the lord of the sacrifice; O Jātavedas, be auspicious for us today.
मातेव पुत्रं पृथिवी पुरीष्यम् अग्निꣳ स्वे योनाव् अभार् उखा । तां विश्वैर् देवैर् ऋतुभिः संविदानः प्रजापतिर् विश्वकर्मा वि मुञ्चतु
As a mother her son, so let the earth bear Agni, the purīṣya fire, in her own womb, O fire-pit. May Prajāpati, the all-creator, together with all the gods and the seasons, release her.
