प्रतूर्वन्न् एह्य् अवक्रामन्न् अशस्तो रुद्रस्य गाणपत्यं मयोभूर् एहि । उर्व् अन्तरिक्षं वीहि । स्वस्तिगव्यूतिर् अभयानि कृण्वन् पूष्णा सयुजा सह
Come forward, advancing, turning aside misfortune; come, O Rudra's lord of hosts, bringer of joy; traverse the wide midspace; with Pūṣan as ally, making the herds safe, granting well-being and fearlessness.
पृथिव्याः सधस्थाद् अग्निं पुरीष्यम् अङ्गिरस्वद् आ भर । अग्निं पुरीष्यम् अङ्गिरस्वद् अच्छेमः । ऽ अग्निं पुरीष्यम् अङ्गिरस्वद् भरिष्यामः
From the seat of earth, bring forth the purifying Agni, O Angiras; may we obtain the purifying Agni, O Angiras; we shall bring forth the purifying Agni, O Angiras.
अन्व् अग्निर् उषसाम् अग्रम् अख्यद् अन्व् अहानि प्रथमो जातवेदाः । अनु सूर्यस्य पुरुत्रा च रश्मीन् अनु द्यावापृथिवी ऽ आ ततन्थ
Agni followed the forefront of the dawns, he, the knower of all births, was first through the days; he extended the many rays of the sun, and stretched out heaven and earth.
आगत्य वाज्य् अध्वानꣳ सर्वा मृधो विधूनुते । अग्निꣳ सधस्थे महति चक्षुषा नि चिकीषते
Having come, the swift one travels the path, shaking off all hostilities; Agni, in the great seat, wishes to be seen with his eye.
आक्रम्य वाजिन् पृथिवीम् अग्निम् इच्छ रुचा त्वम् । भूम्या वृक्त्वाय नो ब्रूहि यतः खनेम तं वयम्
Having stepped upon the earth, O swift one, seek Agni with your radiance; tell us, for the one who seeks, where we may dig him up.
द्यौस् ते पृष्ठं पृथिवी सधस्थम् आत्मान्तरिक्षꣳ समुद्रो योनिः । विख्याय चक्षुषा त्वम् अभि तिष्ठ पृतन्यतः
Heaven is your back, earth your seat, the midspace your self, the ocean your womb; having made yourself manifest with vision, stand firm against the attackers.
उत् क्राम महते सौभगायास्माद् आस्थानाद् द्रविणोदा वाजिन् । वयꣳ स्याम सुमतौ पृथिव्या ऽ अग्निं खनन्त ऽ उपस्थे ऽ अस्याः
Step forth for great good fortune from this seat, O giver of wealth, O swift one; may we be of good counsel upon the earth, as we dig Agni in her lap.
उद् अक्रमीद् द्रविणोदा वाज्य् अर्वाकः सु लोकꣳ सुकृतं पृथिव्याम् । ततः खनेम सुप्रतीकम् अग्निꣳ स्वो रुहाणा ऽ अधि नाकम् उत्तमम्
The giver of wealth, the swift one, has stepped forth nearby to the good world, the well-made earth; from there let us dig Agni with beautiful face, ascending by his own power to the highest heaven.
आ त्वा जिघर्मि मनसा घृतेन प्रतिक्षियन्तं भुवनानि विश्वा । पृथुं तिरश्चा वयसा बृहन्तं व्यचिष्ठम् अन्नै रभसं दृशानम्
To you I approach with mind and with ghee, you who pervade all the worlds; vast, spreading wide with strength, great, most extensive in food, eager, and shining.
आ विश्वतः प्रत्यञ्चं जिघर्म्य् अरक्षसा मनसा तज् जुषेत । मर्यश्री स्पृहयद्वर्णो ऽ अग्निर् नाभिमृशे तन्वा जर्भुराणः
From every side I approach you, may you accept this with a mind free from harm; Agni, radiant with youthful beauty, desired in form, I touch you with my body, you who are ever growing.
परि वाजपतिः कविर् अग्निर् हव्यान्य् अक्रमीत् । दधद् रत्नानि दाशुषे
The lord of strength, the sage Agni, has encompassed the offerings; bestowing treasures upon the worshipper.
परि त्वाग्ने पुरं वयं विप्रꣳ सहस्य धीमहि । धृषद्वर्णं दिवे-दिवे हन्तारं भङ्गुरावताम्
Around you, O Agni, we place the city, the wise, the mighty, day by day; of unyielding form, the slayer of breakers.
त्वम् अग्ने द्युभिस् त्वम् आशुशुक्षणिस् त्वम् अद्भ्यस् त्वम् अश्मनस् परि । त्वं वनेभ्यस् त्वम् ओषधीभ्यस् त्वं नृणां नृपते जायसे शुचिः
You, Agni, are from the heavens, you are the swiftest, you are from the waters, you are from the stones; you are from the woods, you are from the plants, you are born pure among men, O lord of men.
देवस्य त्वा सवितुः प्रसवेऽश्विनोर् बाहुभ्यां पूष्णो हस्ताभ्याम् । पृथिव्याः सधस्थाद् अग्निं पुरीष्यम् अङ्गिरस्वत् खनामि । ज्योतिष्मन्तं त्वाग्ने सुप्रतीकम् अजस्रेण भानुना दीद्यतम् । शिवं प्रजाभ्यो ऽहिꣳसन्तं पृथिव्या सधस्थाद् अग्निं पुरीष्यम् अङ्गिरस्वत् खनामः
By the impulse of god Savitar, by the arms of the Ashvins, by the hands of Pushan, from the seat of earth I dig Agni, rich in offerings, of the Angirases; you, Agni, radiant, with beautiful face, shining with unceasing light, from the seat of earth I dig Agni, rich in offerings, of the Angirases, auspicious for the people, not harming, from the seat of earth.
अपां पृष्ठम् असि योनिर् अग्नेः समुद्रम् अभितः पिन्वमानम् । वर्धमानो महाꣳ२ऽ आ च पुष्करे दिवो मात्रया वरिम्णा प्रथस्व
You are the back of the waters, the womb of Agni, swelling about the ocean; growing great, come forth in the lotus, by the measure of heaven, spread wide in expanse.
शर्म च स्थो वर्म च स्थो ऽच्छिद्रे बहुले ऽ उभे । व्यचस्वती सं वसाथां भृतम् अग्निं पुरीष्यम्
You are shelter and you are armor, unbroken, abundant, both; with spreading radiance, bring together your goods, O Agni, rich in offerings.
संवसाथा स्वर्विदा समीची ऽ उरसा त्मना । अग्निम् अन्तर् भरिष्यन्ती ज्योतिष्मन्तम् अजस्रम् इत्
With united dwellings, knowing the light, harmonious in strength and self, bearing Agni within, ever radiant.
पुरीष्यो सि विश्वभरा ऽ अथर्वा त्वा प्रथमो निर् अमन्थद् अग्ने । त्वाम् अग्ने पुष्कराद् अध्य् अथर्वा निर् अमन्थत । मूर्ध्नो विश्वस्य वाघतः
You are rich in offerings, bearer of all; Atharvan first churned you out, O Agni; you, Agni, Atharvan churned out from the lotus, the summit of all that moves.
तम् उ त्वा दध्यङ्ङ् ऋषिः पुत्र ऽ ईधे अथर्वणः । वृत्रहणं पुरंदरम्
That very you, the seer Dadhyanc, son of Atharvan, kindled, the slayer of Vritra, the destroyer of fortresses.
तम् उ त्वा पाथ्यो वृषा समीधे दस्युहन्तमम् । धनंजयꣳ रणे-रणे
That very you, the bull Pathya kindled, the slayer of foes, the winner of wealth in every battle.
सीद होतः स्व ऽ उ लोके चिकित्वान् सादया यज्ञꣳ सुकृतस्य योनौ । देवावीर् देवान् हविषा यजास्य् अग्ने बृहद् यजमाने वयो धाः
Sit, O Hotar, in your own place, wise one; seat the sacrifice in the womb of good deeds; worship the gods with offering, O Agni, grant great vigor to the worshipper.
नि होता होतृषदने विदानस् त्वेषो दीदिवाꣳ२ ऽ असदत् सुदक्षः । अदब्धव्रतप्रमतिर् वसिष्ठः सहस्रम्भरः शुचिजिह्वो ऽ अग्निः
The Hotar, knowing, has sat down in the seat of the Hotar, shining fiercely, skilled, with unbroken vow, of firm resolve, Vasiṣṭha, bearer of a thousand, with pure tongue, O Agni.
सꣳ सीदस्व महाꣳ२ ऽ असि शोचस्व देववीतमः । वि धूमम् ऽ अग्ने अरुषं मियेध्य सृज प्रशस्त दर्शतम्
Sit together, you are great, blaze forth, most beloved of the gods; send forth your reddish smoke, O Agni, let it rise, praised and beautiful.
अपो देवीर् उपसृज मधुमतीर् अयक्ष्माय प्रजाभ्यः । तासाम् आस्थानाद् उज् जिहताम् ओषधयः सुपिप्पलाः
Send forth the divine waters, sweet, free from disease, for the offspring; from their seat let the well-fruited plants rise up.
सं ते वायुर् मातरिश्वा दधातूत्तानाया हृदयं यद् विकस्तम् । यो देवानां चरसि प्राणथेन कस्मै देव वषड् अस्तु तुभ्यम्
May the wind, Mātariśvan, place for you the heart that is upright and pure; you who move among the gods as the breath of life—may the offering be made to you, O god.
सुजातो ज्योतिषा सह शर्म वरूथम् आसदत् स्वः । वासो ऽ अग्ने विश्वरूपꣳ संव्ययस्व विभावसो
Born well, together with light, may you attain shelter and protection, O Agni; O shining one, wrap yourself in the garment of all forms.
उद् उ तिष्ठ स्वध्वरावा नो देव्या धिया । दृशे च भासा बृहता शुशुक्वनिर् आग्ने याहि सुशस्तिभिः
Rise up, O you of flawless sacrifice, with our divine thought; shine forth with your great radiance for vision—come, Agni, with auspicious praises.
ऊर्ध्व ऽ ऊ षु ण ऽ ऊतये तिष्ठा देवो न सविता । ऊर्ध्वो वाजस्य सनिता यद् अञ्जिभिर् वाघद्भिर् विह्वयामहे
Stand upright for our help, as the god Savitṛ does; upright giver of strength, whom we invoke with anointments and offerings.
स जातो गर्भो ऽ असि रोदस्योर् अग्ने चारुर् विभृत ऽ ओषधीषु । चित्रः शिशुः परि तमास्य् अक्तून् प्र मातृभ्यो ऽ अधि कनिक्रदद् गाः
You are born as the embryo of earth and heaven, Agni, lovely and carried in the plants; the brilliant child, you move around the seasons, crying out from your mothers, echoing among the cows.
स्थिरो भव वीड्व् अङ्ग ऽ आशुर् भव वाज्य् अर्वन् । पृथुर् भव सुषदस् त्वम् अग्नेः पुरीषवाहणः
Be firm, O strong one; be swift, O vigorous steed; be broad, O well-seated one, Agni, bearer of the sacrificial offerings.
