कृष्णोऽस्य् आखरेष्ठो ऽग्नये त्वा जुष्टं प्रोक्षामि । वेदिर् असि बर्हिषे त्वा जुष्टां प्रोक्षामि । बर्हिर् असि स्रुग्भ्यस् त्वा जुष्टं प्रोक्षामि

You are black, the best for the sacrificial pit; I sprinkle you, pleasing to Agni. You are the altar; I sprinkle you, pleasing to the sacred grass. You are the sacred grass; I sprinkle you, pleasing to the ladles.

अदित्यै व्युन्दनम् असि । विष्णो स्तुपो ऽसि । ऊर्णम्रदसं त्वा स्तृणामि स्वासस्थां देवेभ्यः । भुवपतये स्वाहा । भुवनपतये स्वाहा । भूतानां पतये स्वाहा

You are the covering for Aditi. You are the post for Viṣṇu. I spread you, wool-soft, for the gods to sit upon. Svāhā to the lord of the earth. Svāhā to the lord of the worlds. Svāhā to the lord of beings.

गन्धर्वस् त्वा विश्वावसुः परि दधातु विश्वस्यारिष्ट्यै यजमानस्य परिधिर् अस्य् अग्निर् इड ऽīडितः । इन्द्रस्य बाहुर् असि दक्षिणो विश्वस्यारिष्ट्यै यजमानस्य परिधिर् अस्य् अग्निर् इड ऽ ईडितः । मित्रावरुणौ त्वोत्तरतः परि धत्तां ध्रुवेण धर्मणा विश्वस्यारिष्ट्यै यजमानस्य परिधिर् अस्य् अग्निर् इड ऽ ईडितः

May the Gandharva Viśvāvasu place you around for the safety of all, as the enclosure of the sacrificer; Agni, invoked by Iḍā. You are the right arm of Indra, for the safety of all, as the enclosure of the sacrificer; Agni, invoked by Iḍā. May Mitra and Varuṇa place you to the north, with firm law, for the safety of all, as the enclosure of the sacrificer; Agni, invoked by Iḍā.

वीतिहोत्रं त्वा कवे द्युमन्तꣳ सम् इधीमहि । अग्ने बृहन्तम् अध्वरे

We kindle you, the radiant, as the vītihotra, O sage, O Agni, the great one at the sacrifice.

समिद् असि । सूर्यस् त्वा पुरस्तात् पातु कस्याश् चिद् अभिशस्त्यै । सवितुर् बाहू स्थः । ऽ ऊर्णम्रदसं त्वा स्तृणामि स्वासस्थं देवेभ्यः । ऽ आ त्वा वसवो रुद्रा ऽ आदित्याः सदन्तु

You are the kindling. May Sūrya protect you in front from any curse. You are the arms of Savitṛ. I spread you, wool-soft, for the gods to sit upon. May the Vasus, Rudras, and Ādityas sit with you.

घृताच्य् असि जुहूर् नाम्ना सेदं प्रियेण धाम्ना प्रियꣳ सद ऽ आ सीद । घृताच्य् अस्य् उपभृन् नाम्ना सेदं प्रियेण धाम्ना प्रियꣳ सद ऽ आ सीद । घृताच्य् असि ध्रुवा नाम्ना सेदं प्रियेण धाम्ना प्रियꣳ सदऽ आ सीद । प्रियेण धाम्ना प्रियꣳ सद ऽआ सीद । ध्रुवा ऽ असदन्न् ऋतस्य योनौ ता विष्णो पाहि । पाहि यज्ञं । पाहि यज्ञपतिम् । पाहि मां यज्ञन्यम्

You are Ghṛtācī, the ladle, by name; with this dear radiance, always sit here, O beloved. You are Ghṛtācī, the upabhṛt, by name; with this dear radiance, always sit here, O beloved. You are Ghṛtācī, the steadfast, by name; with this dear radiance, always sit here, O beloved. With this dear radiance, always sit here, O beloved. Steadfast, they sat in the womb of truth; O Viṣṇu, protect them. Protect the sacrifice. Protect the lord of the sacrifice. Protect me, the sacrificer.

अग्ने वाजजिद् वाजं त्वा सरिष्यन्तं वाजजितꣳ सं मार्ज्मि । नमो देवेभ्यः । स्वधा पितृभ्यः । सुयमे मे भूयास्तम्

Agni, winner of strength, I anoint you, victorious in strength, as you proceed. Salutation to the gods. Svadhā to the ancestors. May I possess good self-control.

अस्कन्नम् अद्य देवेभ्यऽ आज्यꣳ सं भ्रियासम् । अङ्घ्रिणा विष्णो मा त्वाव क्रमिषम् । वसुमतीम् अग्ने ते छायाम् उप स्थेषं विष्णो स्थानम् असि । इत ऽ इन्द्रो वीर्यम् अकृणोद् ऊर्ध्वो ध्वर ऽआस्थात्

Today, may I bring clarified butter to the gods without spilling. With your stride, O Viṣṇu, may I not overstep you. O Agni, may I stand in your shadow, rich in goods; you are the station of Viṣṇu. Here Indra performed his heroic deed; he stood upright at the altar.

अग्ने वेर् होत्रं वेर् दूत्यम् । अवतां त्वां द्यावापृथिवी । ऽअव त्वं द्यावापृथिवी स्विष्टकृद् देवेभ्यो इन्द्रऽ आज्येन हविषा भूत् स्वाहा । सं ज्योतिषा ज्योतिः

Agni, yours is the office of the Hotṛ, yours is the duty of the messenger. May Heaven and Earth protect you. May Heaven and Earth, as Sviṣṭakṛt, with ghee as the oblation for the gods and for Indra, protect you. Light is joined with light.

मयीदम् इन्द्र ऽइन्द्रियं दधात्व् अस्मान् रायो मघवानः सचन्ताम् । अस्माकꣳ सन्त्व् आशिषः सत्या नः सन्त्व् आशिषः । ऽउपहूता पृथिवी मातोप मां पृथिवी माता ह्वयताम् । अग्निर् आग्नीध्रात् स्वाहा

May Indra place his power in me; may the generous one grant us wealth. May our blessings be true; may our blessings be true. Called upon, may Earth, our mother, approach me; may Earth, our mother, call to me. Agni, from the Agnīdh, svāhā.

उपहूतो द्यौष् पितोप मां द्यौष् पिता ह्वयताम् अग्निर् आग्नीध्रात् स्वाहा । देवस्य त्वा सवितुः प्रसवे ऽश्विनोर् बाहुभ्यां पूष्णो हस्ताभ्याम् । प्रति गृह्णामि । अग्नेष् ट्वास्येन प्राश्नामि

Called upon, may Heaven, our father, approach me; may Heaven, our father, call to me. Agni, from the Agnīdh, svāhā. I accept you at the impulse of the god Savitṛ, with the arms of the Aśvins, with the hands of Pūṣan. Agni, I taste you with the tongue.

एतं ते देव सवितर् यज्ञं प्राहुर् बृहस्पतये ब्रह्मणे । तेन यज्ञम् अव तेन यज्ञपतिं तेन माम् अव

This sacrifice, O god Savitṛ, they declare to Bṛhaspati, to Brahman. By it, protect the sacrifice, by it, protect the lord of the sacrifice, by it, protect me.

मनो जूतिर् जुषताम् आज्यस्य बृहस्पतिर् यज्ञम् इमं तनोतु । अरिष्टं यज्ञꣳ सम् इमं दधातु विश्वे देवासऽ इह मादयन्ताम् ओ3ं प्र तिष्ठ

May the light of the mind enjoy the ghee; may Bṛhaspati extend this sacrifice. May the sacrifice be unharmed; may the All-gods rejoice here. Om, proceed.

एषा तेऽ अग्ने समित् तया वर्धस्व चा च प्यायस्व । वर्धिषीमहि च वयम् आ च प्यासिषीमहि । अग्ने वाजजिद् वाजं त्वा ससृवाꣳसं वाजजितꣳ सं मार्ज्मि

This is your kindling, O Agni; by it, grow and be filled. May we grow and be filled. Agni, winner of strength, I anoint you, victorious in strength, as you move.

अग्नीषोमयोर् उज्जितिम् अनूज्जेषं वाजस्य मा प्रसवेन प्रोहामि । अग्नीषोमौ तम् अपनुदतां योऽस्मान् द्वेष्टि यं च वयं द्विष्मो वाजस्यैनं प्रसवेनापोहामि । इन्द्राग्न्योर् उज्जितिम् अनूज्जेषं वाजस्य मा प्रसवेन प्रोहामि । इन्द्राग्नी तम् अप नुदतां यो ऽस्मान् द्वेष्टि यं च वयं द्विष्मो वाजस्यैनं प्रसवेनापोहामि

I do not reject the prosperity of Agni and Soma; may I not drive it away by my action. Agni and Soma, drive away the one who hates us, and whom we hate; by the act of strength, I drive him away. I do not reject the prosperity of Indra and Agni; may I not drive it away by my action. Indra and Agni, drive away the one who hates us, and whom we hate; by the act of strength, I drive him away.

वसुभ्यस् त्वा । रुद्रेभ्यस् त्वा । आदित्येभ्यस् त्वा । सं जानाथां द्यावापृथिवी । मित्रावरुणौ त्वा वृष्ट्यावताम् । व्यन्तु वयो क्तꣳ रिहाणाः । मरुतां पृषतीर् गच्छ वशा पृश्निर् भूत्वा दिवं गच्छ ततो नो वृष्टिम् आ वह । चक्षुष्पा ऽअग्ने ऽसि चक्षुर् मे पाहि

For the Vasus, you; for the Rudras, you; for the Ādityas, you. May Heaven and Earth be joined together. May Mitra and Varuṇa water you with rain. May the birds fly forth, having shaken their wings. Go, O Pṛṣatī chariots of the Maruts; become the spotted cow, go to heaven, and from there bring us rain. O Agni, you are the guardian of sight; protect my sight.

यं परिधिं पर्यधत्थाऽ अग्ने देव पणिभिर् गुह्यमानः । तं तऽ एतम् अनु जोषं भराम्य् नेत् त्वद् अपचेतयातै । ऽअग्नेः प्रियं पाथोऽपीतम्

O Agni, god, whom you have surrounded with your hands, hiding the enclosure, that, that favor I bring to you with devotion; let no one else deprive you of it. The beloved path of Agni has been drunk.

सꣳस्रवभागा स्थेषा बृहन्तः प्रस्तरेष्ठाः परिधेयाश् च देवाः । इमां वाचम् अभि विश्वे गृणन्त ऽआसद्यास्मिन् बर्हिषि मादयध्वम् । स्वाहा वाट्

The portions flow together, they are great, they are placed on the sacred grass, and the gods are the enclosers. All the gods praise this speech; sit on this barhis and rejoice. Svāhā to the enclosure.

घृताची स्थो धुर्यौ पातꣳ सुम्ने स्थः सुम्ने मा धत्तम् । यज्ञ नमश् च तऽ उप च यज्ञस्य शिवे सं तिष्ठस्व स्विष्टे मे संतिष्ठस्व

You two are Ghṛtācī, yoked at the yoke; drink, be in good favor, place good favor in me. With reverence to the sacrifice and salutation, approach; stand firm in the auspicious part of the sacrifice, stand firm in my auspicious part.

अग्नेऽ दब्धायो ऽशीतम पाहि मा दिद्योः । पाहि प्रसित्यै । पाहि दुरिष्ट्यै । पाहि दुरद्मन्याऽ अविषं नः पितुं कृणु । सुषदा योनौ स्वाहा वाट् । अग्नये संवेशपतये स्वाहा । सरस्वत्यै यशोभगिन्यै स्वाहा

O Agni, infallible, unaging, protect me; may I not be harmed by lightning. Protect for prosperity. Protect from evil. Protect from ill-will; make us free from harm. In a good seat, svāhā to the enclosure. To Agni, lord of the assembly, svāhā. To Sarasvatī, bestower of glory, svāhā.

वेदो ऽसि येन त्वं देव वेद देवेभ्यो वेदोऽ भवस् तेन मह्यं वेदो भूयाः । देवा गातुविदो गातुं वित्त्वा गातुम् इत । मनसस् पतऽ इमं देव यज्ञꣳ स्वाहा वाते धाः

You are knowledge, by which you, O god, know; you become knowledge for the gods; by that, may you become knowledge for me. The gods, knowing the path, go on the path. O swift one of the mind, carry this sacrifice, svāhā; place it in the wind.

सं बर्हिर् अङ्क्ताꣳ हविषा घृतेन सम् आदित्यैर् वसुभिः सं मरुद्भिः । सम् इन्द्रो विश्वदेवेभिर् अङ्क्तां दिव्यं नभो गच्छतु यत् स्वाहा

May the barhis be anointed together with the oblation, with ghee, together with the Ādityas, with the Vasus, together with the Maruts. May Indra, with all the gods, anoint it; may it go to the heavenly sky, svāhā.

कस् त्वा वि मुञ्चति स त्वा वि मुञ्चति कस्मै त्वा वि मुञ्चति तस्मै त्वा वि मुञ्चति । पोषाय । रक्षसां भागो ऽसि

Who releases you? He releases you. To whom does he release you? To him he releases you. For prosperity. You are the share of the Rakṣasas.

सं वर्चसा पयसा सं तनूभिर् अगन्महि मनसा सꣳ शिवेन । त्वष्टा सुदत्रो वि दधातु रायोऽ नुमार्ष्टु तन्वो यद् विलिष्टम्

May we unite with brilliance, with nourishment, with strong bodies, with a mind that is auspicious. May Tvaṣṭṛ, the gracious giver, bestow wealth upon us; may he cleanse away from our bodies whatever is impure.

दिवि विष्णुर् व्यक्रꣳस्त जागतेन छन्दसा ततो निर्भक्तो यो ऽस्मान् द्वेष्टि यं च वयं द्विष्मः । अन्तरिक्षे विष्णुर् व्यक्रꣳस्त जागतेन छन्दसा ततो निर्भक्तो योऽ स्मान् द्वेष्टि यं च वयं द्विष्मः । पृथिव्यां विष्णुर् व्यक्रꣳस्त जागतेन छन्दसा ततो निर्भक्तो यो ऽस्मान् द्वेष्टि यं च वयं द्विष्मः । अस्माद् ऽअन्नादस्यै प्रतिष्ठायै । ऽ अगन्म स्वः । सं ज्योतिषाभूम

Viṣṇu strides in the sky with the meter of the Jagat; from there, may he remove the one who hates us and whom we hate. Viṣṇu strides in the midspace with the meter of the Jagat; from there, may he remove the one who hates us and whom we hate. Viṣṇu strides on the earth with the meter of the Jagat; from there, may he remove the one who hates us and whom we hate. From this food, for this foundation, we have reached heaven. We have become united with the light.

स्वयम्भूर् असि श्रेष्ठो रश्मिर् ऽवर्चोदा असि वर्चो मे देहि । सूर्यस्यावृतम् अन्व् आवर्ते

You are self-born, the highest ray, the bestower of radiance; grant me radiance. I turn back what is covered of the sun.

अग्ने गृहपते सुगृहपतिस् त्वयाऽग्ने ऽहं गृहपतिना भूयासꣳ सुगृहपतिस् त्वं मयाऽग्ने गृहपतिना भूयाः । अस्थूरि णौ गार्हपत्यानि सन्तु शतꣳ हिमाः । सूर्यस्यावृतम् अन्व् आवर्ते

O Agni, lord of the house, may you be a good householder; with you, Agni, as householder, may I become a good householder. May you, Agni, be a good householder with me as householder. May our household fires stand firm for a hundred winters. I turn back what is covered of the sun.

अग्ने व्रतपते व्रतम् अचारिषं तद् अशकं तन् मेऽ राधि । इदम् अहं यऽ एवाऽस्मि सोऽस्मि

O Agni, lord of vows, I have observed the vow; I have accomplished it—grant me that. This I am, just as I truly am.

अग्नये कव्यवाहनाय स्वाहा । सोमाय पितृमते स्वाहा । अपहता ऽ असुरा रक्षाꣳसि वेदिषदः

To Agni, the carrier of offerings to the ancestors, svāhā! To Soma, the lord of the ancestors, svāhā! Drive away the demons and the evil spirits who dwell at the altar.
