हविष्मतीर् इमा ऽ आपो हविष्माꣳ2 ऽ आ विवासति । हविष्मान् देवो ऽ अध्वरो हविष्माꣳ2 ऽ अस्तु सूर्यः
These waters, rich in oblation, are invoked with oblation. The god is rich in oblation at the sacrifice; may the sun also be rich in oblation.
अग्नेर्वोऽ पन्नगृहस्य सदसि सादयामि । इन्द्राग्न्योर् भागधेयी स्थ । मित्रावरुण्योर् भागधेयी स्थ । विश्वेषां देवानां भागधेयी स्थ । अमूर् या ऽ उप सूर्ये याभिर् वा सूर्यः सह । ता नो हिन्वन्त्व् अध्वरम्
I seat you in the house of Agni, the serpent, at the sacrificial seat. You share the portion of Indra and Agni; you share the portion of Mitra and Varuṇa; you share the portion of all the gods. Those who are with the sun, or with whom the sun is, may they support our sacrifice.
हृदे त्वा मनसे त्वा दिवे त्वा सूर्याय त्वा । ऊर्ध्वम् इमम् अध्वरं दिवि देवेषु होत्रा यच्छ
To the heart I offer you, to the mind I offer you, to the sky I offer you, to the sun I offer you. Raise this sacrifice upward to the gods in heaven as the priest.
सोम राजन् विश्वास् त्वं प्रजा ऽ उपाव रोह । विश्वास् त्वां प्रजा उपाव रोहन्तु । शृणोत्व् अग्निः समिधा हवं मे शृण्वन्त्व् आपो धिषणाश् च देवीः । श्रोता ग्रावाणो विदुषो न यज्ञꣳ शृणोतु देवः सविता हवं मे स्वाहा
O king Soma, ascend to all the people. May all the people ascend to you. May Agni, kindled, hear my invocation; may the waters and the divine goddesses of the altar hear. May the stones, the wise, know the sacrifice; may god Savitṛ hear my invocation, svāhā.
देवीर् आपो ऽ अपां नपाद् यो व ऽ ऊर्मिर् हविष्य ऽ इन्द्रियावान् मदिन्तमः । तं देवेभ्यो देवत्रा दत्त शुक्रपेभ्यो येषां भाग स्थ स्वाहा
Divine waters, and the offspring of the waters, and you, the wave, full of oblation and most exhilarating—give that to the gods, to the divine ones, to those who drink the bright, to whom you belong, svāhā.
कार्षिर् असि । समुद्रस्य त्वाक्षित्या ऽ उन् नयामि । सम् आपो ऽ अद्भिर् अग्मत सम् ओषधीभिर् ओषधीः
You are a ploughman. I lead you forth with the imperishability of the ocean. May the waters unite with the waters; may the plants unite with the plants.
यम् अग्ने पृत्सु मर्त्यम् अवा वाजेषु यं जुनाः । स यन्ता शश्वतीर् इषः स्वाहा
O Agni, whomever you protect among mortals in battles, whomever you favor in contests for wealth—he becomes the possessor of enduring riches. Svāhā.
देवस्य त्वा सवितुः प्रसवेऽश्विनोर् बाहुभ्यां पूष्णो हस्ताभ्याम् । आ ददे रावासि गभीरम् इमम् अध्वरं कृधीन्द्राय सुषूतमम् । उत्तमेन पविनोर्जस्वन्तं मधुमन्तं पयस्वन्तम् । निग्राभ्या स्थ देवश्रुतस् तर्पयत मा
With the impulse of the divine Savitar, with the arms of the Aśvins, with the hands of Pūṣan, I place you. Roar deeply; make this sacrifice most pleasing for Indra. With the highest strength of the purifier, powerful, sweet, and full of nourishment, may you be satisfied, O renowned by the gods; fulfill me.
मनो मे तर्पयत वाचं मे तर्पयत प्राणं मे तर्पयत चक्षुर् मे तर्पयत श्रोत्रं मे तर्पयतात्मानं मे तर्पयत प्रजां मे तर्पयत पशून् मे तर्पयत गणान् मे तर्पयत गणा मे मा वितृषन्
Satisfy my mind, satisfy my speech, satisfy my breath, satisfy my sight, satisfy my hearing, satisfy my self, satisfy my offspring, satisfy my cattle, satisfy my groups; do not leave me unsatisfied among the groups.
इन्द्राय त्वा वसुमते रुद्रवते । ऽ इन्द्राय त्वादित्यवते । ऽ इन्द्राय त्वाभिमातिघ्ने । श्येनाय त्वा सोमभृते । ऽ अग्नये त्वा रायस्पोषदे
For Indra, for the wealthy, for the Rudra-possessing, for Indra, for the Āditya-possessing, for Indra, for the destroyer of foes, for the eagle, for the Soma-bearer, for Agni, for the increaser of wealth.
यत् ते सोम दिवि ज्योतिर् यत् पृथिव्यां यद् उराव् अन्तरिक्षे । तेनास्मै यजमानायोरु राये कृध्य् अधि दात्रे वोचः
O Soma, whatever light is yours in heaven, whatever is on earth, whatever is in the wide midspace—by that, grant to these two sacrificers wide wealth; declare it for the gift.
श्वात्रा स्थ वृत्रतुरो राधोगूर्ता ऽ अमृतस्य पत्नीः । ता देवीर् देवत्रेमं यज्ञं नयतोपहूताः सोमस्य पिबत
You are strong, destroyers of obstacles, praised for your gifts, consorts of immortality. You goddesses, called by the gods, lead this sacrifice; drink the Soma.
मा भेर् मा सं विक्था ऽ ऊर्जं धत्स्व धिषणे वीड्वी सती वीडयेथामूर्जं दधाथाम् । पाप्मा हतो न सोमः
Do not fear, do not be confused; place strength, O Dhiṣaṇā. Being wise, may you both grant strength, may you both bestow strength. Sin is destroyed, not Soma.
प्राग् अपाग् उदग् अधराक् सर्वतस् त्वा दिश ऽ आ धावन्तु । अम्ब नि ष्पर सम् अरीर् विदाम्
Let all the directions—east, west, north, below—run toward you. Mother, come forth; let us know the enemy.
त्वम् अङ्ग प्र शꣳसिषो देवः शविष्ठ मर्त्यम् । न त्वद् अन्यो मघवन्न् अस्ति मर्डितेन्द्र ब्रवीमि ते वचः
You alone, O god, most mighty, bring peace to mortals. There is no other helper like you, O generous Indra; I speak these words to you.
वाचस् पतये पवस्व वृष्णो अꣳशुभ्यां गभस्तिपूतः । देवो देवेभ्यः पवस्व येषां भागो ऽसि
Purify yourself, O powerful one, for the lord of speech, cleansed by the two bright hands. O god, purify yourself for the gods, among whom you have a share.
मधुमतीर् न ऽ इषस् कृधि । यत् ते सोमादाभ्यं नाम जागृवि तस्मै ते सोम सोमाय स्वाहा । स्वाहा । उर्व् अन्तरिक्षम् अन्व् एमि
Make the offerings for us sweet. Whatever name of yours, O Soma, has awakened among the Soma-receivers, to that Soma, for Soma, svāhā, svāhā. I follow the wide midspace.
स्वांकृतो ऽसि विश्वेभ्य इन्द्रियेभ्यो दिव्येभ्यः पार्थिवेभ्यो मनस् त्वाष्टु स्वाहा त्वा सुभव सूर्याय । देवेभ्यस् त्वा मरीचिपेभ्यः । देवाशो यस्मै त्वेडे तत् सत्यम् उपरिप्रुता भङ्गेन हतो ऽसौ फट् । प्राणाय त्वा । व्यानाय त्वा
You are consecrated for all the divine and earthly senses. May Tvaṣṭṛ fashion your mind. Svāhā to you, O good-born, for Sūrya. To the gods, to the Marīcis, to the divine portion—whatever is yours, that is true. The one above is struck down, broken—phaṭ. To prāṇa, to vyāna.
उपयामगृहीतो ऽस्य् अन्तर्यच्छ मघवन् पाहि सोमम् । उरुष्य राय ऽएषो यजस्व
You are taken up for approach. Restrain within, O generous one; protect the Soma. Worship for wide wealth.
अन्तस् ते द्यावापृथिवी दधाम्य् अन्तर्दधाम्य् उर्व् अन्तरिक्षम् । सजूर् देवेभिर् अवरैः परैश्चान्तर्यामे मघवन् मादयस्व
Within you I place heaven and earth; within I place the wide midspace. Together with the gods, both near and far, rejoice within, O generous one.
स्वांकृतोऽसि विश्वेभ्य ऽ इन्द्रियेभ्यो दिव्येभ्यः पार्थिवेभ्यो मनस् त्वाष्टु स्वाहा त्वा सुभव सूर्याय । देवेभ्यस् त्वा मरीचिपेभ्यः । ऽ उदानाय त्वा
You are consecrated for all the divine and earthly senses. May Tvaṣṭṛ fashion your mind. Svāhā to you, O good-born, for Sūrya. To the gods, to the Marīcis. To udāna.
आ वायो भूष शुचिपा ऽ उप नः सहस्रं ते नियुतो विश्ववार । उपो तेऽअन्धो मद्यम् अयामि यस्य देव दधिषे पूर्वपेयम् । वायवे त्वा
Come, O Vāyu, adorned, pure-drinker; a thousand of your troops, all-choosing, come to us. I bring you the intoxicating draught, whose first drink you, O god, have taken. To Vāyu, to you.
इन्द्रवायू ऽ इमे सुता ऽ उप प्रयोभिर् आगतम् । इन्दवो वाम् उशन्ति हि । उपयामगृहीतोऽसि वायव ऽ इन्द्रवायुभ्यां त्वा । एष ते योनिः । सजोषोभ्यां त्वा
O Indra and Vāyu, these pressed draughts—come with favor. The drops long for you both. You are taken up for approach, O Vāyu; to Indra and Vāyu, to you. This is your seat. With both together, to you.
अयं वां मित्रावरुणा सुतः सोम ऽ ऋतावृधा । ममेद् इह श्रुतꣳ हवम् । उपयामगृहीतो ऽसि मित्रावरुणाभ्यां त्वा
This Soma, pressed for you, O Mitra and Varuṇa, increasers of truth. May my call be heard here. You are taken up for approach, to Mitra and Varuṇa, to you.
राया वयꣳ ससवाꣷसो मदेम हव्येन देवा यवसेन गावः । तां धेनुं मित्रावरुणा युवं नो विश्वाहा धत्तम् अनपस्फुरन्तीम् । एष ते योनिर् ऋतायुभ्यां त्वा
May we, together with our companions, rejoice in wealth; may the gods accept our offering, and may the cows thrive on fodder. Mitra and Varuṇa, grant us that cow, ever yielding, never failing; this is your seat, I place you here for the keepers of truth.
या वां कशा मधुमत्याश्विना सूनृतावती । तया यज्ञं मिमिक्षतम् । उपयामगृहीतो ऽस्य् अश्विभ्यां त्वा । एष ते योनिर् माध्वीभ्यां त्वा
O Aśvins, the whip you possess is sweet and brings forth pleasant speech; with it, may you foster the sacrifice. You are received by the Aśvins; this is your seat, I place you here for those who delight in sweetness.
तं प्रत्नथा पूर्वथा विश्वथेमथा ज्येष्ठतातिं बर्हिषदꣳ स्वर्विदम् । प्रतीचीनं वृजनं दोहसे धुनिम् आशुं जयन्तम् अनु यासु वर्धसे । उपयामगृहीतो ऽसि शण्डाय त्वा । एष ते योनिर् वीरतां पाहि । अपमृष्टः शण्डः । देवास् त्वा शुक्रपाः प्रणयन्तु । अनाधृष्टासि
You are ancient, foremost, all-encompassing, eldest, seated on the sacred grass, knowing the light; you nourish the people, you are swift, victorious, and grow among those who serve. You are received for the eunuch; this is your seat, guard virility. The eunuch is purified. May the gods who drink the bright one favor you. You are invincible.
सुवीरो वीरान् प्रजनयन् परीह्य् अभि रायस्पोषेण यजमानम् । संजग्मानो दिवा पृथिव्या शुक्रः शुक्रशोचिषा । निरस्तः शण्डः । शुक्रस्याधिष्ठानम् असि
The mighty one, generating heroes, surrounds the sacrificer with prosperity; shining in both heaven and earth with radiant brilliance. The eunuch is removed. You are the abode of the bright one.
अच्छिन्नस्य ते देव सोम सुवीर्यस्य रायस्पोषस्य ददितारः स्याम । सा प्रथमा सꣳस्कृतिर् विश्ववारा स प्रथमो वरुणो मित्रो ऽ अग्निः
May we, O god Soma, be givers of unbroken strength, heroic power, and abundant wealth. That is the first, universal preparation; Varuṇa, Mitra, and Agni are the foremost.
स प्रथमो बृहस्पतिश् चिकित्वाꣳस् तस्मा ऽ इन्द्राय सुतम् आ जुहोत स्वाहा । तृम्पन्तु होत्रा मध्वो याः स्विष्टा याः सुप्रीताः सुहुता यत् स्वाहा । अयाड् अग्नीत्
Bṛhaspati is the first, wise one; therefore, offer the pressed Soma to Indra with the exclamation 'svāhā.' May the officiants enjoy the sweet offerings, those well-pleased, well-invoked, with 'svāhā.' Agni is not harmed.
