अग्ने नय सुपथा राये ऽअस्मान् विश्वानि देव वयुनानि विद्वान् । युयोध्य् अस्मज् जुहुराणम् एनो भूयिष्ठां ते नमऽउक्तिं विधेम
O Agni, lead us by the good path to prosperity, O god, knowing all the ways; remove from us the crooked sin we have committed. To you we offer the most abundant words of homage.
अयं नो ऽ अग्निर् वरिवस् कृणोत्व् अयं मृधः पुर ऽएतु प्रभिन्दन् । अयं वाजान् जयतु वाजसाताव् अयꣳ शत्रून् जयतु जर्हृषाणः स्वाहा
May this Agni create a wide passage for us; may he come breaking through the enemies; may he win riches for the seeker of wealth; may he, exultant, conquer the foes. Svāhā.
उरु विष्णो वि क्रमस्वोरु क्षयाय नस् कृधि । घृतं घृतयोने पिब प्र-प्र यज्ञपतिं तिर स्वाहा
Stride widely, O Viṣṇu, make wide room for our dwelling; O you born of ghee, drink the ghee; lead forth the lord of sacrifice. Svāhā.
देव सवितर् एष ते सोमस् तꣳ रक्षस्व मा त्वा दभन् । एतत् त्वं देव सोम देवो देवाँ2 ऽ उपागा ऽ इदम् अहं मनुष्यान्त् सह रायस्पोषेण स्वाहा निर् वरुणस्य पाशान् मुच्ये
O god Savitar, this Soma is for you; protect it, let no harm come to you. O god Soma, you are a god among gods; I, together with men, offer this for the increase of wealth. Svāhā. I am released from the bonds of Varuṇa.
अग्ने व्रतपास् त्वे व्रतपा या तव तनूर् मय्य् अभूद् एषा सा त्वयि यो मम तनूस् त्वय्य् अभूद् इयꣳ सा मयि । यथायथं नौ व्रतपते व्रतान्य् अनु मे दीक्षां दीक्षापतिर् अमꣳस्तानु तपस् तपस्पतिः
O Agni, you are the guardian of vows; may your vow-body be in me, and may my body be in you. As the lord of vows, may you accept our vows as they are; may the lord of consecration accept my consecration; may the lord of austerity accept my austerity.
उरु विष्णो वि क्रमस्वोरु क्षयाय नस् कृधि । घृतं घृतयोने पिब प्र-प्र यज्ञपतिं तिर स्वाहा
Stride widely, O Viṣṇu, make wide room for our dwelling; O you born of ghee, drink the ghee; lead forth the lord of sacrifice. Svāhā.
अत्य् अन्याꣳ ऽ अगां नान्याꣳ ऽ उपागाम् अर्वाक् त्वा परेभ्यो ऽविदं परो ऽवरेभ्यः । तं त्वा जुषामहे देव वनस्पते देवयज्यायै देवास् त्वा देवयज्यायै जुषन्तां विष्णवे त्वा । ओषधे त्रायस्व । स्वधिते मैनꣳ हिꣳसीः
I have not gone to another, nor approached another; I have found you nearer than others, farther than those further away. We choose you, O god, O lord of the forest, for the divine sacrifice; may the gods accept you for the divine sacrifice, for Viṣṇu. O plant, protect us. O sacrificial post, do not harm him.
द्यां मा लेखीर् अन्तरिक्षं मा हिꣳसीः पृथिव्या सं भव । अयꣳ हि त्वा स्वधितिस् तेतिजानः प्रणिनाय महते सौभगाय । अतस् त्वं देव वनस्पते शतवल्शो वि रोह सहस्रवल्शा वि वयꣳ रुहेम
Do not injure the sky, do not harm the midspace; be united with the earth. For you, the sacrificial post, the sharpened blade has led forth for great good fortune. Therefore, O god, O lord of the forest, with a hundred branches, grow; with a thousand branches, may we grow.
देवस्य त्वा सवितुः प्रसवे ऽश्विनोर् बाहुभ्यां पूष्णो हस्ताभ्याम् । आ ददे नार्य् असि । इदम् अहꣳ रक्षसां ग्रीवा ऽ अपि कृन्तामि । यवो ऽसि यवयास्मद् द्वेषो यवयारातीः । दिवेऽत्वान्तरिक्षाय त्वा पृथिव्यै त्वा । शुन्धन्तां लोकाः पितृषदनाः । पितृषदनम् असि
I place you by the impulse of god Savitar, by the arms of the Aśvins, by the hands of Pūṣan. You are a woman; with this I cut off the necks of the demons. You are barley; drive away our hatred, drive away our foes. For the sky, for the midspace, for the earth, I place you. May the worlds, the abodes of the ancestors, be purified. You are the abode of the ancestors.
अग्रेणीर् असि स्वावेश ऽ उन्नेतॄणाम् एतस्य वित्ताद् अधि त्वा स्थास्यति । देवस् त्वा सविता मध्व् आनक्तु । सुपिप्पलाभ्यस् त्वौषधीभ्यः । द्याम् अग्रेणास्पृक्ष ऽ आन्तरिक्षं मध्येनाप्राः पृथिवीम् उपरेणादृꣳहीः
You are the leader, the best of lifters; from this wealth you will stand forth. May god Savitar anoint you with honey. You are among the most excellent plants. With the tip you touch the sky, with the middle you reach the midspace, with the top you support the earth.
या ते धामान्य् उश्मसि गमध्यै यत्र गावो भूरिशृङ्गा ऽ अयासः । अत्राह तद् उरुगायस्य विष्णोः परमं पदम् अव भारि भूरि । ब्रह्मवनि त्वा क्षत्रवनि रायस्पोषवनि पर्य् ऊहामि । ब्रह्म दृꣳह क्षत्रं दृꣳहायुर् दृꣳह प्रजां दृꣳह
Those abodes of yours, where the cows with many horns go to graze, there, O wide-striding Viṣṇu, is your highest step; protect it, O mighty one. I surround you for the strength of prayer, for the strength of rule, for the increase of wealth. Establish prayer, establish rule, establish life, establish offspring.
विष्णोः कर्माणि पश्यत यतो व्रतानि पस्पशे । इन्द्रस्य युज्यः सखा
Behold the deeds of Viṣṇu, from where the sacred laws are made manifest; he is the fitting friend of Indra.
तद् विष्णोः परमं पदꣳ सदा पश्यन्ति सूरयो दिवीव चक्षुर् आततम्
That highest step of Viṣṇu the wise always behold, like an eye stretched across the sky.
परिवीर् असि परि त्वा दैवीर् विशो व्ययन्तां परीमं यजमानꣳ रायो मनुष्याणाम् । दिवः सूनुर् असि । एष ते पृथिव्यां लोक ऽ आरण्यस् ते पशुः
You are the enclosing one; may the divine hosts surround you; may we surround this sacrificer with wealth among men. You are the son of heaven. This is your place on earth; the forest is your cattle.
उपावीर् असि । उप देवान् दैवीर् विशः प्रागुर् उशिजो वह्नितमान् । देव त्वष्टर् वसु रम हव्या ते स्वदन्ताम्
You are the one who approaches. Approach the gods, the divine hosts, with the inspired ones, bearing the fire. O god Tvaṣṭṛ, grant us wealth; may your offerings be pleasing.
रेवती रमध्वं बृहस्पते धारया वसूनि । ऋतस्य त्वा देवहविः पाशेन प्रति मुञ्चामि धर्षा मानुषः
Rejoice, O Bṛhaspati, with abundance; hold the riches. With the noose of the gods' offering I release you to truth; let not man harm you.
देवस्य त्वा सवितुः प्रसवे ऽश्विनोर् बाहुभ्यां पूष्णो हस्ताभ्याम् । अग्नीषोमाभ्यां जुष्टं नि युनज्मि । अद्भ्यस् त्वौषधीभ्योऽनु त्वा माता मन्यताम् अनु पितानु भ्राता सगर्भ्योऽनु सखा सयूथ्यः । अग्नीषोमाभ्यां त्वा जुष्टं प्रोक्षामि
I place you by the impulse of god Savitar, by the arms of the Aśvins, by the hands of Pūṣan; consecrated by Agni and Soma. May the waters and the plants accept you; may your mother, father, brother, those of the same womb, and companion accept you. I sprinkle you, consecrated by Agni and Soma.
अपां पेरुर् असि । आपो देवीः स्वदन्तु स्वात्तं चित् सद् देवहविः । सं ते प्राणो वातेन गच्छताꣳ सम् अङ्गानि यजत्रैः सं यज्ञपतिर् आशिषा
You are the broad one of the waters. May the divine waters enjoy the offering taken for them. May your breath go together with the wind, may your limbs unite with the worshipful ones, may the lord of sacrifice unite you with blessing.
घृतेनाक्तौ पशूँस् त्रायेथा । रेवति यजमाने प्रियं धा ऽ आ विश । उरोर् अन्तरिक्षात् सजूर् देवेन वातेनास्य हविषस् त्मना यज समस्य तन्वा भव । वर्षो वर्षीयसि यज्ञे यज्ञपतिं धाः । स्वाहा देवेभ्यः । देवेभ्यः स्वाहा
Protect the sacrificial animals anointed with ghee; O Revati, bring delight to the sacrificer, enter here. From the expanse of the midspace, together with the divine wind, offer this oblation with your own essence; be whole in your being. Let the rain pour abundantly in the sacrifice; establish the lord of sacrifice. Svāhā to the gods. To the gods, svāhā.
माहिर् भूर् मा पृदाकुः । नमस् तऽ आतानानर्वा प्रेहि । घृतस्य कुल्याऽ उपऽ ऋतस्य पथ्याऽ अनु
Do not harm the earth, do not injure it. With reverence, approach those who have come. Follow the streams of ghee, along the righteous paths.
देवीर् आपः शुद्धा वोढ्वꣳ सुपरिविष्टा देवेषु । सुपरिविष्टा वयं परिवेष्टारो भूयास्म
Divine waters, pure and well-filtered among the gods, may you carry away impurity. Well-filtered, may we too become those who purify.
वाचं ते शुन्धामि । प्राणं ते शुन्धामि । चक्षुस् ते शुन्धामि । श्रोत्रं ते शुन्धामि । नाभिं ते शुन्धामि । मेढ्रं ते शुन्धामि । पायुं ते शुन्धामि । चरित्राꣳस् ते शुन्धामि
I purify your speech. I purify your breath. I purify your sight. I purify your hearing. I purify your navel. I purify your generative organ. I purify your anus. I purify your conduct.
मनस्तऽ आ प्यायताम् । वाक् तऽ आ प्यायताम् । प्राणस् तऽ आ प्यायताम् । चक्षुस्तऽ आ प्यायताम् । श्रोत्रं तऽ आ प्यायताम् । यत् ते क्रूरं यद् आस्थितं तत् त ऽआ प्यायतां निष्ट्यायतां तत् ते शुध्यतु । शम् अहोभ्यः । ओषधे त्रायस्व । स्वधिते मैनꣳ हिꣳसीः
May your mind be filled. May your speech be filled. May your breath be filled. May your sight be filled. May your hearing be filled. Whatever is harsh or settled in you, may that be filled, may that be released, may that be purified. Peace to the days. O herb, protect. O sacred power, do not harm him.
रक्षसां भागो ऽसि । निरस्तꣳ रक्षः । ऽ इदम् अहꣳ रक्षोऽ भितिष्ठामीदम् अहꣳ रक्षोऽ व बाधऽ इदम् अहꣳ रक्षो ऽधमं तमो नयामि । घृतेन द्यावापृथिवी प्रोर्णुवाथाम् । वायो वे स्तोकानाम् । अग्निर् आज्यस्य वेतु स्वाहा । स्वाहाकृते ऽ ऊर्ध्वनभसं मारुतं गच्छतम्
You are the portion of the Rakṣasas. The Rakṣas is cast away. I stand here, unafraid of the Rakṣas; I drive away the Rakṣas; I lead the Rakṣas into the lowest darkness. With ghee, may heaven and earth be covered. O wind, among the drops. May Agni know the clarified butter, svāhā. For the sake of svāhā, may you go to the upward-moving wind.
इदम् आपः प्रवहतावद्यं च मलं च यत् । यच् चाभिदुद्रोहानृतं यच् च शेपे ऽ अभीरुणम् । आपो मा तस्माद् एनसः पवमानश् च मुञ्चतु
O waters, carry away this fault and impurity, whatever deceit, falsehood, or curse has been uttered without fear. O waters, may you free me from that sin, and may the purifier release me.
सं ते मनो मनसा सं प्राणः प्राणेन गच्छताम् । रेड् अस्य् अग्निष् ट्वा श्रीणात्व् आपस् त्वा समरिणन् वातस्य त्वा ध्राज्यै पूष्णो रꣳह्या ऽ ऊष्मणो व्यथिषत् । प्रयुतं द्वेषः
May your mind unite with mind, your breath with breath. O Agni, may your fire accept you; the waters have joined you; the wind has set you in motion for firmness; Pūṣan has strengthened you for vigor. May hatred be far away.
घृतं घृतपावानः पिबत वसां वसापावानः पिबतान्तरिक्षस्य हविर् असि स्वाहा । दिशः । प्रदिशः । ऽ आदिशः । विदिशः । ऽ उद्दिशः । दिग्भ्यः स्वाहा
Let the purifiers of ghee drink the ghee; let the purifiers of fat drink the fat. You are the oblation of the midspace, svāhā. To the directions. To the intermediate directions. To the further directions. To the special directions. To the upward directions. Svāhā to the directions.
ऐन्द्रः प्राणो ऽ अङ्गे ऽ अङ्गे नि दीध्यद् ऐन्द्र ऽ उदानो ऽ अङ्गे ऽ अङ्गे निधीतः । देव त्वष्टर् भूरि ते सꣳ-समेतु सलक्ष्मा यद् विषुरूपं भवाति । देवत्रा यन्तम् अवसे सखायो ऽनु त्वा माता पितरो मदन्तु
Let the Indra-breath shine in every limb; let the Indra-upward-breath be established in every limb. O god Tvaṣṭṛ, may your abundance come together with its splendor, whatever form it may take. Let your companions come here for help; may mother and father rejoice in you.
समुद्रं गच्छ स्वाहा । ऽ अन्तरिक्षं गच्छ स्वाहा । देवꣳ सवितारं गच्छ स्वाहा । मित्रावरुणौ गच्छ स्वाहा । ऽ अहोरात्रे गच्छ स्वाहा । छन्दाꣳसि गच्छ स्वाहा । द्यावापृथिवी गच्छ स्वाहा । यज्ञं गच्छ स्वाहा । सोमं गच्छ स्वाहा । दिव्यं नभो गच्छ स्वाहा । अग्निं वैश्वानरं गच्छ स्वाहा । मनो मे हार्दि यच्छ । दिवं ते धूमो गच्छतु स्वर् ज्योतिः पृथिवीं भस्मना पृण स्वाहा
Go to the ocean, svāhā. Go to the midspace, svāhā. Go to god Savitṛ, svāhā. Go to Mitra and Varuṇa, svāhā. Go to day and night, svāhā. Go to the meters, svāhā. Go to heaven and earth, svāhā. Go to the sacrifice, svāhā. Go to Soma, svāhā. Go to the divine sky, svāhā. Go to Agni Vaiśvānara, svāhā. Place my mind in my heart. May your smoke go to heaven, your light to the sun; fill the earth with ashes, svāhā.
मापो मौषधीर् हिꣳसीः । धाम्नो-धाम्नो राजꣳस् ततो वरुण नो मुञ्च । यद् आहुर् अघ्न्या ऽ इति वरुणेति शपामहे ततो वरुण नो मुञ्च । सुमित्रिया न ऽ आप ऽ ओषधयः सन्तु +दुर्मित्रियास् तस्मै सन्तु यो स्मान् द्वेष्टि यं च वयं द्विष्मः
Do not harm the waters or the plants. O king Varuṇa, from every abode, release us. If we have called the cow unfit, or invoked Varuṇa in an oath, from that, O Varuṇa, release us. May the waters and plants be friendly to us; may they be unfriendly to him who hates us or whom we hate.
