घृतवती भुवनानाम् अभिश्रियोर्वी पृथ्वी मधुदुघे सुपेशसा । द्यावापृथिवी वरुणस्य धर्मणा विष्कभिते ऽ अजरे भूरिरेतसा
The earth, broad and beautiful, rich with ghee, nourishing all beings, and the heavens and earth, by Varuṇa's law, are firmly established, ageless, abundant in seed.
ये नः सपत्ना ऽ अप ते भवन्त्व् इन्द्राग्निभ्याम् अव बाधामहे तान् । वसवो रुद्रा ऽ आदित्या ऽ उपरिस्पृशं मोग्रं चेत्तारम् अधिराजम् अक्रन्
Those who are our rivals, may they be driven away by Indra and Agni; Vasus, Rudras, Ādityas, touch them from above, make them powerless, make them subject to the king.
आ नासत्या त्रिभिर् एकादशैर् इह देवेभिर् यातं मधुपेयम् अश्विना । प्रायुस् तारिष्टं नी रपाꣳसि मृक्षतꣳ सेधतं द्वेषो भवतꣳ सचाभुवा
Come here, O Aśvins, with the eleven gods, to partake of the honeyed offering; grant us long life, remove obstacles, cleanse us from sins, drive away hatred, and be united with us.
एष व स्तोमो मरुत ऽ इयं गीर् मान्दार्यस्य मान्यस्य कारोः । एषा यासीष्ट तन्वे वयां विद्यामेषं वृजनं जीरदानुम्
This praise is for the Maruts, this song for the noble Māndārya; may this be granted to our bodies, may we know this people, may we attain long-lived offspring.
सहस्तोमाः सहच्छन्दस ऽ आवृतः सहप्रमा ऽ ऋषयः सप्त दैव्याः । पूर्वेषां पन्थाम् अनुदृश्य धीरा ऽ अन्वालेभिरे रथ्यो न रश्मीन्
With united praise, united meter, united measure, the seven divine sages, following the path of the former ones, wise, have grasped the reins like charioteers.
आयुष्यं वर्चस्यꣳ रायस्पोषम् औद्भिदम् । इदꣳ हिरण्यं वर्चस्वज् जैत्राया विशताद् उ माम्
May long life, brilliance, wealth, and growth from plants, may this gold, radiant, enter me for victory.
न तद् रक्षाꣳसि न पिशाचास् तरन्ति देवानाम् ओजः प्रथमजꣳ ह्य् एतत् । यो बिभर्ति दाक्षायणꣳ हिरण्यꣳ स देवेषु कृणुते दीर्घम् आयुः स मनुष्येषु कृणुते दीर्घम् आयुः
Neither demons nor spirits surpass the strength of the gods, this is their first-born power; whoever bears the Dakṣāyaṇa gold, among the gods he gains long life, among men he gains long life.
यद् आबध्नन् दाक्षायणा हिरण्यꣳ शतानीकाय सुमनस्यमानाः । तन् म ऽ आ बध्नामि शतशारदायायुष्मान् जरदष्टिर् यथासम्
When the Dakṣāyaṇas, wishing well, bound gold for Śatānīka, I bind it for myself for a hundred autumns of life, aged yet strong as before.
उत नो ऽहिर्बुध्न्यः शृणोत्व् अज ऽ एकपात् पृथिवी समुद्रः । विश्वे देवा ऽ ऋतावृधो हुवाना स्तुता मन्त्राः कविशस्ता ऽ अवन्तु
May Ahi Budhnya hear us, may the unborn, the one-footed, the earth, the ocean; all the gods, upholders of truth, whom we invoke, may praised hymns, wise words, protect us.
इमा गिर ऽ आदित्येभ्यो घृतस्नूः सनाद् राजभ्यो जुह्वा जुहोमि । शृणोतु मित्रो ऽ अर्यमा भगो नस् तुविजातो वरुणो दक्षो ऽअꣳशः
These songs, anointed with ghee, I offer to the Ādityas, to the ancient kings with my tongue; may Mitra, Aryaman, Bhaga, the mighty Varuṇa, Dakṣa, and Aṃśa hear us.
सप्त ऽ ऋषयः प्रतिहिताः शरीरे सप्त रक्षन्ति सदम् अप्रमादम् । सप्तापः स्वपतो लोकम् ईयुस् तत्र जागृतो ऽ अस्वप्नजौ सत्रसदौ च देवौ
Seven sages are established in the body; seven ever guard against negligence. Seven energies traverse the world of sleep; there, those awake are the two gods who preside over the sacrifice, not born of sleep.
उत् तिष्ठ ब्रह्मणस्पते देवयन्तस् त्वेमहे । उप प्र यन्तु मरुतः सुदानव ऽ इन्द्र प्राशूर् भवा सचा
Arise, O Lord of the Sacred Word! We invoke you with devotion. Let the generous Maruts approach; Indra, be swift and come together with us.
प्र नूनं ब्रह्मणस्पतिर् मन्त्रं वदत्य् उक्थ्यम् । यस्मिन्न् इन्द्रो वरुणो मित्रो ऽ अर्यमा देवा ऽ ओकाꣳसि चक्रिरे
Now indeed the Lord of the Sacred Word utters a hymn-worthy chant, in which Indra, Varuṇa, Mitra, and Aryaman, the gods, have established their abodes.
ब्रह्मणस्पते त्वम् अस्य यन्ता सूक्तस्य बोधि तनयं च जिन्व । विश्वं तद् भद्रं यद् अवन्ति देवा बृहद् वदेम विदथे सुवीराः । [य इमा विश्वा । विश्वकर्मा । यो नः पिता । अन्नपते न्नस्य नो देहि ॥ ] (अ.वे. 17. , 11. )
O Lord of the Sacred Word, you are the guide of this hymn; awaken its offspring and make it prosper. May all that is auspicious, which the gods protect, be ours; may we speak greatly in the assembly, endowed with good sons. [He who encompasses all, the maker of all, who is our father, O Lord of food, grant us sustenance.]
अपेतो यन्तु पणयो ऽसुम्ना देवपीयवः । अस्य लोकः सुतावतः । द्युभिर् अहोभिर् अक्तुभिर् व्यक्तं यमो ददात्व् अवसानम् अस्मै
Let the evil ones, the unfriendly, depart, far from the gods' favor. This world belongs to the one who has performed the rite. By days, nights, and twilights, may Yama clearly assign him his resting place.
सविता ते शरीरेभ्यः पृथिव्यां लोकम् इच्छतु । तस्मै युज्यन्ताम् उस्रियाः
May Savitṛ grant you a place on earth from your bodies; let the cows be yoked for him.
वायुः पुनातु । सविता पुनातु । अग्नेर् भ्राजसा । सूर्यस्य वर्चसा । वि मुच्यन्ताम् उस्रियाः
May Vāyu purify; may Savitṛ purify; by the brilliance of Agni, by the radiance of Sūrya, let the cows be released.
अश्वत्थे वो निषदनं पर्णे वो वसतिष् कृता । गोभाजऽइत् किलासथ यत् सनवथ पूरुषम्
Your seat is under the aśvattha tree, your dwelling is made on its leaf. You are nourished by cows, it is said, when you renew the person.
सविता ते शरीराणि मातुर् उपस्थ ऽ आ वपतु । तस्मै पृथिवि शं भव
May Savitṛ draw your bodies back to the mother's lap; for him, O Earth, be gracious.
प्रजापतौ त्वा देवतायाम् उपोदके लोके नि दधाम्य् असौ । अप नः शोशुचद् अघम्
In Prajāpati, in the divine realm, in the world with water, I place you. May the waters wash away our sin.
परं मृत्यो ऽ अनु परेहि पन्थां यस् ते ऽ अन्य इतरो देवयानात् । चक्षुष्मते शृण्वते ते ब्रवीमि मा नः प्रजाꣳ रीरिषो मोत वीरान्
Go far, O Death, follow the path that is yours, different from the one leading to the gods. I speak to you who have sight and hearing: do not harm our offspring nor our heroes.
शं वातः शꣳ हि ते घृणिः शं ते भवन्त्व् इष्टकाः । शं ते भवन्त्व् अग्नयः पार्थिवासो मा त्वाभि शूशुचन्
May the wind bring peace to you, may your radiance bring peace, may your bricks bring peace, may your earthly fires bring peace; let them not harm you.
कल्पन्तां ते दिशस् तुभ्यम् आपः शिवतमास् तुभ्यं भवन्तु सिन्धवः । अन्तरिक्षꣳ शिवं तुभ्यं कल्पन्तां ते दिशः सर्वाः
May the directions be prepared for you, may the waters be most auspicious for you, may the rivers be favorable to you. May the midspace be auspicious for you, may all the directions be prepared for you.
अश्मन्वती रीयते सꣳ रभध्वम् उत् तिष्ठत प्र तरता सखायः । अत्र जहीमो ऽशिवा ये ऽ असञ्छिवान् वयम् उत्तरेमाभि वाजान्
The stone-laden one moves onward; strive together, arise, cross over, O friends! Here let us cast away those who are inauspicious; we, being auspicious, shall cross over with our prizes.
अपाघम् अप किल्विषम् अप कृत्याम् अपो रपः । अपामार्ग त्वम् अस्मद् अप दुःष्वप्न्यꣳ सुव
Away with sin, away with guilt, away with evil, away with misfortune! O remover of impurities, drive away from us evil dreams.
सुमित्रिया न ऽ आप ऽ ओषधयः सन्तु दुर्मित्रियास् तस्मै सन्तु यो ऽस्मान् द्वेष्टि यं च वयं द्विष्मः
May the waters and plants be friendly to us; may they be unfriendly to him who hates us and to whom we are hostile.
अनड्वाहम् आ रभामहे सौरभेयꣳ स्वस्तये । स न ऽ इन्द्र ऽ इव देवेभ्यो वह्निः संतरणो भव
We take hold of the bull, the fragrant one, for well-being. Like Indra among the gods, O Fire, be our guide across.
उद् वयं तमसस् परि स्वः पश्यन्त ऽ उत्तरम् । देवं देवत्रा सूर्यम् अगन्म ज्योतिर् उत्तमम्
We have gone forth from darkness, seeing the higher light; we have reached the god among gods, the Sun, the highest light.
इमं जीवेभ्यः परिधिं दधामि मैषां नु गाद् अपरो ऽ अर्थम् एतम् । शतं जीवन्तु शरदः पुरूचीर् अन्तर् मृत्युं दधतां पर्वतेन
I set this boundary for the living; let not another cross it for their own purpose. May they live a hundred autumns, many and full, placing death far away, as if by a mountain.
अग्न ऽ आयूꣳषि पवस ऽ आ सुवोर्जम् इषं च नः । आरे बाधस्व दुच्छुनाम्
O Agni, purify our lifespans, bring us to the radiant light, to strength and nourishment. Drive far away from us all evil and misfortune.
