अद्या देवा ऽ उदिता सूर्यस्य निर् अꣳहसः पिपृता निर् अवद्यात् । तन् नो मित्रो वरुणो मामहन्ताम् अदितिः सिन्धुः पृथिवी ऽ उत द्यौः
Today, O gods, at the rising of the Sun, free us from misfortune, free us from blame. May Mitra, Varuṇa, Aditi, Sindhu, Earth, and Heaven not harm us.
आ कृष्णेन रजसा वर्तमानो निवेशयन्न् अमृतं मर्त्यं च । हिरण्ययेन सविता रथेना देवो याति भुवनानि पश्यन्
Moving in the black firmament, establishing both immortal and mortal, Savitṛ, the god, goes forth, seeing all the worlds, with his golden chariot.
प्र वावृजे सुप्रया बर्हिर् एषाम् आ विश्पतीव बीरिट ऽ इयाते । विशाम् अक्तोर् उषसः पूर्वहूतौ वायुः पूषा स्वस्तये नियुत्वान्
The well-laid sacrificial grass is spread for them, as a lord of the people, the seat is approached; at the first calling of the dawn, Vayu and Pushan, accompanied by their chariots, come for well-being.
इन्द्रवायू बृहस्पतिं मित्राग्निं पूषणं भगम् । आदित्यान् मारुतं गणम्
I invoke Indra and Vayu, Brihaspati, Mitra and Agni, Pushan, Bhaga, the Adityas, and the host of Maruts.
वरुणः प्राविता भुवन् मित्रो विश्वाभिर् ऊतिभिः । करतां नः सुराधसः
May Varuna be our protector, and Mitra, with all their aids, grant us divine favor.
अधि न इन्द्रेषां विष्णो सजात्यानाम् । इता मरुतो ऽ अश्विना । [तं प्रत्नथा । अयं वेनः । ये देवासः । आ न इडाभिः । विश्वेभिः सोम्यं मधु ।] (अ.वे. 7.12, 16. 19, ) ओमासश् चर्षणीधृतः
Upon Indra, Vishnu, and their kin, upon the Maruts and the Ashvins, upon the ancient ones, upon this Vena, upon those gods, with the Ida offerings, with all, let the Soma honey be enjoyed, O guardians of the people.
अग्न ऽ इन्द्र वरुण मित्र देवाः शर्धः प्र यन्त मारुतोत विष्णो । उभा नासत्या रुद्रो ऽ अध ग्नाः पूषा भगः सरस्वती जुषन्त
Agni, Indra, Varuna, Mitra, the gods, the hosts, Maruts, and Vishnu, both Ashvins, Rudra, the goddesses, Pushan, Bhaga, and Sarasvati, may they accept our offering.
इन्द्राग्नी मित्रावरुणादितिꣳ स्वः पृथिवीं द्यां मरुतः पर्वताꣳ२ऽ अपः । हुवे विष्णुं पूषणं ब्रह्मणस्पतिं भगं नु शꣳसꣳ सवितारमूतये
I call Indra and Agni, Mitra and Varuna, Aditi, the heavens, earth, Maruts, mountains, waters; I invoke Vishnu, Pushan, Brahmanaspati, Bhaga, and Savitar for aid.
अस्मे रुद्रा मेहना पर्वतासो वृत्रहत्ये भरहूतौ सजोषाः । यः शꣳसते स्तुवते धायि पज्र ऽ इन्द्रज्येष्ठा ऽ अस्माꣳ२ऽ अवन्तु देवाः
May the Rudras, the mighty ones, the mountains, united in the slaying of Vritra and in the invocation, protect us; whoever praises and sings, let the gods led by Indra defend us.
अर्वाञ्चो ऽ अद्या भवता यजत्रा ऽ आ वो हार्दि भयमानो व्ययेयम् । त्राध्वं नो देवा निजुरो वृकस्य त्राध्वं कर्ताद् अवपदो यजत्राः
Come near today, O worshipful ones; with reverence I approach you in my heart. Protect us, O gods, from the wolf, protect us from the doer of harm, O worshipful ones.
विश्वे ऽ अद्य मरुतो विश्व ऽ ऊती विश्वे भवन्त्व् अग्नयः समिद्धाः । विश्वे नो देवा ऽ अवसा गमन्तु विश्वम् अस्तु द्रविणं वाजो ऽ अस्मे
May all the Maruts today, all the fires kindled, all the gods come to us with help; may all wealth and strength be ours.
विश्वे देवाः शृणुतेमꣳ हवं मे ये ऽ अन्तरिक्षे य ऽ उप द्यवि ष्ठ । ये ऽ अग्निजिह्वा ऽ उत वा यजत्रा ऽ आसद्यास्मिन् बर्हिषि मादयध्वम्
All gods, hear my invocation—those in the midspace, those upon the heavens, those with Agni's tongue, and those who are worshipful; sit upon this sacrificial grass and rejoice.
देवेभ्यो हि प्रथमं यज्ञियेभ्यो ऽमृतत्वꣳ सुवसि भागम् उत्तमम् । आद् इद् दामानꣳ सवितर् व्य् ऊर्णुषे ऽनूचीना जीविता मानुषेभ्यः
For the gods, the foremost, the worthy of sacrifice, you grant immortality, the highest share; Savitar, you spread out the gift, granting life to mortals.
प्र वायुम् अच्छा बृहती मनीषा बृहद्रयिं विश्ववारꣳ रथप्राम् । द्युतद्यामा नियुतः पत्यमानः कविः कविम् इयक्षसि प्रयज्यो
To Vayu I direct my lofty thought, for abundant wealth, for universal protection, for mastery of chariots; the shining ones, the chariots, the poet, you lead the poet, O worthy of worship.
इन्द्रवायू ऽ इमे सुता ऽ उप प्रयोभिर् आगतम् । इन्दवो वाम् उशन्ति हि
Indra and Vayu, these pressed offerings are for you; come with favor, for the Soma streams delight you.
मित्रꣳ हुवे पूतदक्षं वरुणं च रिशादसम् । धियं घृताचीꣳ साधन्ता
I call Mitra, pure in wisdom, and Varuna, the righteous; they accomplish the clarified, luminous thought.
दस्रा युवाकवः सुता नासत्या वृक्तबर्हिषः । आ यातꣳ रुद्रवर्तनी । [ तं प्रत्नथा । अयं वेनः ॥ ](अ.वे. 7.12.16)
O wondrous, youthful ones, the pressed offerings are for you, Ashvins, upon the well-prepared grass; come by the path of Rudra. Upon the ancient ones, upon this Vena.
विदद् यदी सरमा रुग्णम् अद्रेर् महि पाथः पूर्व्यꣳ सध्र्यक् कः । अग्रं नयत् सुपद्य् अक्षराणाम् अच्छा रवं प्रथमा जानती गात्
When Sarama found the broken path of the mountain, the great ancient way, who was her companion? She led the foremost, the well-footed of the words, she sang the first cry, knowing it.
नहि स्पशम् अविदन्न् अन्यम् अस्माद् वैश्वानरात् पुर ऽ एतारम् अग्नेः । एम् एनम् अवृधन्न् अमृता ऽ अमर्त्यं वैश्वानरं क्षैत्रजित्याय देवाः
No one else knew the track except from Vaishvanara, the ancient path of Agni; the immortals strengthened him, the undying Vaishvanara, for the conquest of the realm, O gods.
उग्रा विघनिना मृध ऽ इन्द्राग्नी हवामहे । ता नो मृडात ऽ ईदृशे
We invoke Indra and Agni, fierce and destroyers of foes; may they be gracious to us in this way.
उपास्मै गायता नरः पवमानायेन्दवे । अभि देवाꣳ२ऽ इयक्षते
Let men sing to him, to the purifier, to Indu; they approach the gods.
ये त्वाहिहत्ये मघवन्न् अवर्धन् ये शाम्बरे हरिवो ये गविष्टौ । ये त्वा नूनम् अनुमदन्ति विप्राः पिबेन्द्र सोमꣳ सगणो मरुद्भिः
Those who strengthened you, Maghavan, in the slaying; those in the battle of Shambara, O wielder of the tawny steeds; those in the contest for the cows; those priests who now approve you—drink, Indra, the Soma with the Maruts, your companions.
जनिष्ठा ऽ उग्रः सहसे तुराय मन्द्र ऽ ओजिष्ठो बहुलाभिमानः । अवर्धन्न् इन्द्रं मरुतश् चिद् अत्र माता यद् वीरं दधनद् धनिष्ठा
Born mighty, fierce for strength and speed, delightful, most vigorous, full of pride; even the Maruts increased Indra here, when the mother placed the hero in the womb.
आ तू न ऽ इन्द्र वृत्रहन्न् अस्माकम् अर्धम् आ गहि । महान् महीभिर् ऊतिभिः
Come to us, Indra, slayer of Vṛtra, come to our portion; great one, with mighty aids.
त्वम् इन्द्र प्रतूर्तिष्व् अभि विश्वा ऽ असि स्पृधः । अशस्तिहा जनिता विश्वतूर् असि त्वं तूर्य तरुष्यतः
You, Indra, are victorious in every contest; you destroy hostility, you are the creator of universal victory; you overcome those who challenge you.
अनु ते शुष्मं तुरयन्तम् ईयतुः क्षोणी शिशुं न मातरा । विश्वास् ते स्पृधः श्नथयन्त मन्यवे वृत्रं यद् इन्द्र तूर्वसि
The earths followed your force, rushing, like mothers after a child; all your adversaries you subdue in anger, when you, Indra, conquer Vṛtra.
यज्ञो देवानां प्रत्य् एति सुम्नम् आदित्यासो भवता मृडयन्तः । आ वो ऽर्वाची सुमतिर् ववृत्याद् अꣳहोश् चिद् या वरिवोवित्तरासत्
The sacrifice approaches the favor of the gods; may the Ādityas be gracious; may your benevolence turn toward us, and may you, who grant the path, remove distress.
अदब्धेभिः सवितः पायुभिष् ट्वꣳ शिवेभिर् अद्य परि पाहि नो गयम् । हिरण्यजिह्वः सुविताय नव्यसे रक्षा माकिर् नो ऽ अघशꣳस ऽ ईशत
Savitar, with unfailing guardians, with auspicious ones, today protect our life; golden-tongued, for fresh prosperity, guard us, let no evil speaker rule over us.
प्र वीरया शुचयो दद्रिरे वाम् अध्वर्युभिर् मधुमन्तः सुतासः । वह वायो नियुतो याह्य् अच्छा पिबा सुतस्यान्धसो मदाय
The pure ones have streamed forth with vigor, with the priests, the sweet Soma juices; bring, Vāyu, your teams, come here, drink the pressed Soma for delight.
गाव ऽ उपावतावतं मही यज्ञस्य रप्सुदा । उभा कर्णा हिरण्यया
The cows have come near, great givers of the sacrificial riches; both ears are golden.
