The divine priests, first and eloquent, measuring out the sacrifice for men to worship, inspiring the singers in the assemblies, point out the eastern light.
May Bhāratī come to our sacrifice, may Iḍā, mindful like a human, be present here. May the three goddesses, Sarasvatī, sit on this sacred grass, granting us well-being.
He who, by his forms, has filled all the worlds—these heaven and earth, the two mothers—today, O priest, worship that most worshipful god Tvaṣṭṛ here, as directed.
Let the Vanaspati, the god, the fire, well-placed in himself, arrange the offerings for the gods in due season. Let him, the taster, enjoy the oblation with honey and ghee.
Agni, newly born, measured out the sacrifice, and became the leader of the gods. At the priest's direction, in the speech of truth, let the gods enjoy the offering made with svāhā.
Making a sign for the unseeing, you are the ornament for the mortal, not for the unadorned. You were born together with the dawns.
Just as the thundercloud has a form, so does the armored one approach the seat of battle with composure; with unpierced body, may you win—may the greatness of the armor protect you.
With the bow may we win cattle, with the bow may we win the battle; with the bow may we overcome fierce contests; the bow frustrates the enemy’s desire—may we conquer all directions with the bow.
The bowstring, speaking as it were, draws near the ear, embracing its dear companion; like a woman, it sprinkles from the stretched bow, carrying forth the arrow together.
These two, acting together like a woman, as a mother holds her child at her breast, let them strike down enemies when loosed—these bowstrings, twanging, scatter foes.
He is the father of many, he has many sons; coming together on the battlefield, he acts; the quiver, the arrows, and all the troops, fastened on his back, prevail when set forth.
Standing on the chariot, the skilled charioteer leads the horses forward wherever he desires; let the reins display the greatness of the goads, and the mind follow behind as the traces direct.
The strong-handed horses make loud sounds, racing with the chariots; advancing with their hooves against the enemies, they destroy the foes, dispersing them in battle.
The chariot’s movement is his offering, where his weapons and armor are placed; there may we, always with joyful hearts, approach the chariot together.
The ancestors, strong and valiant, who sat at the sweet drink, enduring hardship, powerful, deep-minded, with varied armies, skilled in arrows, unyielding, truly heroic, broad, and victorious in bands.
The Brahman ancestors, gentle as Soma, may heaven and earth be auspicious and free from harm for us; may Pūṣan protect us from evil, O upholder of truth, guard us—let not the evil-wisher rule over us.
The beast wears the feathered wing, its tooth is its weapon; bound with ox-hide, it flies forth when released; where men run together and apart, there may the arrows bring us protection.
Encompass us with strength, let our body be as stone; may Soma speak for us, may Aditi grant us protection.
Their thighs move, their hips strike; the wise are born from horses—urge the horses on in the battles.
Like a serpent encircling with its coils, the bowstring surrounds the arm, restraining the arrow; the skilled archer, knowing all means, may he protect the man from all sides.
O tree, may you be strong-limbed, our friend, a good crossing, heroic; bound with ox-hide, be firm—may the one who stands upon you win victories.
From heaven and earth is drawn forth strength, from the trees is gathered might; the thunderbolt of Indra, wrapped with ox-hide, offer the chariot as an oblation.
Indra’s thunderbolt, the host of the Maruts, the seed of Mitra, the navel of Varuṇa—accepting this offering, O god, take hold of the chariot for our invocation.
Make the earth and sky resound, let your fame be established everywhere; O drum, together with Indra and the gods, drive away the enemies far off.
Resound forth, O drum, with strength and vigor; drive away distress, repelling misfortune. Cast off evil, O drum, you are Indra's fist—resound mightily.
Sound forth, O drum, with a clear signal; let your voice return again and again. Let our charioteers, O Indra, victorious in battle, ride forth with horses for us.

O divine Savitar, inspire the sacrifice, inspire the lord of sacrifice for good fortune. May the celestial Gandharva, the bearer of signs, purify our sign; may the lord of speech grant us strength.
