देवीस् तिस्रस् तिस्रो देवीर् वयोधसं पतिम् इन्द्रम् अवर्धयन् । जगत्या छन्दसेन्द्रियꣳ शूषम् इन्द्रे वयो दधद् वसुवने वसुधेयस्य व्यन्तु यज
Three goddesses, three divine ones, bearers of strength, increased the lord Indra. With the meter Jagati, the sense-power, the dryness, let Indra receive strength; let the bestower of wealth grant the wealth-offering; let the sacrifice be performed.
देवो नराशꣳसो देवम् इन्द्रं वयोधसं देवो देवम् अवर्धयत् । विराजा छन्दसेन्द्रियꣳ रुपम् इन्द्रे वयो दधद् वसुवने वसुधेयस्य वेतु यज
The god Narāśaṃsa, the god Indra, bearer of strength, the god increased the god. With the meter Virāj, the sense-power, the form, let Indra receive strength; let the bestower of wealth grant the wealth-offering; let the sacrifice be performed.
देवो वनस्पतिर् देवम् इन्द्रं वयोधसं देवो देवम् अवर्धयत् । द्विपदा छन्दसेन्द्रियं भगम् इन्द्रे वयो दधद् वसुवने वसुधेयस्य वेतु यज
The god, the lord of the forest, the god Indra, bearer of strength, the god increased the god. With the meter Dvipadā, the sense-power, the fortune, let Indra receive strength; let the bestower of wealth grant the wealth-offering; let the sacrifice be performed.
देवं बर्हिर् वारितीनां देवम् इन्द्रं वयोधसं देवं देवम् अवर्धयत् । ककुभा छन्दसेन्द्रियं यश ऽ इन्द्रे वयो दधद् वसुवने वसुधेयस्य वेतु यज

देवो ऽ अग्निः स्विष्टकृद् देवम् इन्द्रं वयोधसं देवो देवम् अवर्धयत् । अतिच्छन्दसा छन्दसेन्द्रियं क्षत्रम् इन्द्रे वयो दधद् वसुवने वसुधेयस्य वेतु यज
The god Agni, the maker of auspicious offerings, the god Indra, bearer of strength, the god increased the god. With the meter Aticchandas, the sense-power, the rule, let Indra receive strength; let the bestower of wealth grant the wealth-offering; let the sacrifice be performed.
अग्निम् अद्य होतारम् अवृणीतायं यजमानः पचन् पक्तीः पचन् पुरोडाशं बध्नन्न् इन्द्राय वयोधसे छागम् । सूपस्था ऽ अद्य देवो वनस्पतिर् अभवद् इन्द्राय वयोधसे छागेन । अघत् तं मेदस्तः प्रति पचताग्रभीद् अवीवृधत् पुरोडाशेन । त्वाम् अद्य ऽ ऋष [आर्षेय ऋषीणां नपाद् अवृणीतायं यजमानो बहुभ्य आ संगतेभ्य एष मे देवेषु वसु वार्यायक्ष्यत इति ता या देवा देव दानान्य् अदुस् तान्य् अस्मा आ च शास्स्वा च गुरस्वेषितश् च होतर् असि भद्रवाच्याय प्रेषितो मानुषः सूक्तवाकाय सूक्ता ब्रूहि ॥ ]
Today, let the sacrificer choose Agni as Hotar, cooking the sacrificial portions, preparing the sacrificial cake, binding the goat for Indra, the bearer of strength. Today, the divine lord of the forest became the offering for Indra, the bearer of strength, with the goat. The fat was taken from the flesh, cooked, and increased with the sacrificial cake. Today, O bull, descendant of the seers, the sacrificer chooses you for the many assembled; among the gods, this wealth is to be invoked. Those gods who have given divine gifts, let them be called here and praised; you are the Hotar, sent for auspicious speech, for human praise, speak the hymn.
समिद्धो ऽ अञ्जन् कृदरं मतीनां घृतम् अग्ने मधुमत् पिन्वमानः । वाजी वहन् वाजिनं जातवेदो देवानां वक्षि प्रियम् आ सधस्थम्
Kindled, O Agni, you are the ornament of thoughts; you, rich in ghee, overflowing with sweetness. Bearing the prize, O Jātavedas, bring the beloved seat of the gods.
घृतेनाञ्जन्त् सं पथो देवयानान् प्रजानन् वाज्य् अप्य् एतु देवान् । अनु त्वा सप्ते प्रदिशः सचन्ताꣳ स्वधाम् अस्मै यजमानाय धेहि
Anoint the paths leading to the gods with ghee; let the knowing, swift steed approach the gods. May the seven directions accompany you; establish the offering for this worshipper.
ईड्यश् चासि वन्द्यश् च वाजिन्न् आशुश् चासि मेध्यश् च सप्ते । अग्निष् ट्वा देवैर् वसुभिः सजोषाः प्रीतं वह्निं वहतु जातवेदाः
You are worthy of praise and worship, O swift and pure one, possessing strength and fit for sacrifice. Agni, may Jātavedas, together with the Vasus and the gods, carry the beloved fire.
स्तीर्णं बर्हिः सुष्टरीमा जुषाणोरु पृथु प्रथमानं पृथिव्याम् । देवेभिर् युक्तम् अदितिः सजोषाः स्योनं कृण्वान सुविते दधातु
Let the well-spread sacred grass, broad and well-arranged, be gladly accepted, first established upon the wide earth. May Aditi, united with the gods, place it as a pleasant seat in the assembly.
एता ऽ उ वः सुभगा विश्वरूपा वि पक्षोभिः श्रयमाणा ऽ उदातैः । ऋष्वाः सतीः कवषः शुम्भमाना द्वारो देवीः सुप्रायणा भवन्तु
These, indeed, are your auspicious, all-formed doors, adorned with wings and uplifted thresholds. Being lofty, shining, and splendid, may the divine doors become excellent passages.
अन्तरा मित्रावरुणा चरन्ती मुखं यज्ञानाम् अभि संविदाने । उषासा वाꣳ सुहिरण्ये सुशिल्पे ऽ ऋतस्य योनाव् इह सादयामि
Moving between Mitra and Varuṇa, you approach the face of the sacrifices in assembly. O Dawns, richly golden and skillful, I seat you here in the womb of truth.
प्रथमा वाꣳ सरथिना सुवर्णा देवौ पश्यन्तौ भुवनानि विश्वा । अपिप्रयं चोदना वां मिमाना होतारा ज्योतिः प्रदिशा दिशन्ता
You two, the first, golden, charioteers, gods who see all the worlds, have come forth. Inspired by your urging, the priests, measuring out the light, distribute it to the directions.
आदित्यैर् नो भारती वष्टु यज्ञꣳ सरस्वती सह रुद्रैर् न ऽ आवीत् । इडोपहूता वसुभिः सजोषा यज्ञं नो देवीर् अमृतेषु धत्त
May Bhāratī, with the Ādityas, bless our sacrifice; may Sarasvatī, together with the Rudras, protect us. Invoked by Iḍā, united with the Vasus, may the goddesses place our sacrifice among the immortals.
त्वष्टा वीरं देवकामं जजान त्वष्टुर् अर्वा जायत ऽ आशुर् अश्वः । त्वष्टेदं विश्वं भुवनं जजान बहोः कर्तारम् इह यक्षि होतः
Tvaṣṭṛ begot a heroic son, desired by the gods; from Tvaṣṭṛ was born the swift horse. Tvaṣṭṛ created this entire world; O Hotṛ, worship here the maker of all.
अश्वो घृतेन त्मन्या समक्त ऽ उप देवाꣳ२ऽ ऋतुशः पाथ ऽ एतु । वनस्पतिर् देवलोकं प्रजानन्न् अग्निना हव्या स्वदितानि वक्षत्
Let the horse, anointed with ghee, come to the gods in due season. Let the tree, knowing the divine realm, carry the well-offered oblations with Agni.
प्रजापतेस् तपसा वावृधानः सद्यो जातो दधिषे यज्ञम् अग्ने । स्वाहाकृतेन हविषा पुरोगा याहि साध्या हविर् अदन्तु देवाः
O Agni, grown strong through the austerity of Prajāpati, newly born, you have taken up the sacrifice. Go forth as the leader with the offering made with svāhā; may the Sādhyas and gods partake of the oblation.
यद् अक्रन्दः प्रथमं जायमान ऽ उद्यन्त् समुद्राद् उत वा पुरीषात् । श्येनस्य पक्षा हरिणस्य बाहू ऽ उपस्तुत्यं महि जातं ते ऽ अर्वन्
When the first cry arose at birth, whether from the ocean or from the flood, the wings of the falcon, the arms of the bay steed—great is your birth, O horse, worthy of praise.
यमेन दत्तं त्रित ऽ एनम् आयुनग् इन्द्र ऽ एणं प्रथमो ऽ अध्य् अतिष्ठत् । गन्धर्वो ऽ अस्य रशनाम् अगृभ्णात् सूराद् अश्वं वसवो निर् अतष्ट
Given by Yama, Trita lengthened its life; Indra was the first to mount it. The Gandharva grasped its rein; the Vasus led the horse out from the sun.
असि यमो ऽ अस्य् आदित्यो ऽ अर्वन्न् असि त्रितो गुह्येन व्रतेन । असि सोमेन समया विपृक्त ऽ आहुस् ते त्रीणि दिवि बन्धनानि
You are Yama, you are Āditya, O horse; you are Trita, with hidden vow. You are united with Soma, set apart; they say you have three bonds in heaven.
त्रीणि त ऽ आहुर् दिवि बन्धनानि त्रीण्य् अप्सु त्रीण्य् अन्तः समुद्रे । उतेव मे वरुणश् छन्त्स्य् अर्वन् यत्रा त ऽ आहुः परमं जनित्रम्
They say you have three bonds in heaven, three in the waters, three within the ocean. May Varuṇa release you, O horse, where they say is your highest birthplace.
इमा ते वाजिन्न् अवमार्जनानीमा शफानाꣳ सनितुर् निधाना । अत्रा ते भद्रा रशना ऽ अपश्यम् ऋतस्य या ऽ अभिरक्षन्ति गोपाः
Here are your cleansing places, O swift one, here the resting places of your hooves. Here I saw your auspicious reins, which the guardians of truth protect.
आत्मानं ते मनसाराद् अजानाम् अवो दिवा पतयन्तं पतंगम् । शिरो ऽ अपश्यं पथिभिः सुगेभिर् अरेणुभिर् जेहमानं पतत्रि
With my mind I have recognized your self, as a bird soaring by day. I saw your head, O winged one, moving along easy paths, striving among the dust.
अत्रा ते रूपम् उत्तमम् अपश्यं जिगीषमाणम् इष ऽ आ पदे गोः । यदा ते मर्तो ऽ अनु भोगम् आनड् आद् इद् ग्रसिष्ठ ऽ ओषधीर् अजीगः
Here I saw your highest form, striving for the prize at the cow's foot. When a mortal enjoys your bounty, then you consume the plants, O horse.
अनु त्वा रथो ऽ अनु मर्यो ऽ अर्वन्न् अनु गावो ऽनु भगः कनीनाम् । अनु व्रातासस् तव सख्यम् ईयुर् अनु देवा ममिरे वीर्यं ते
After you goes the chariot, after you the warrior, O horse; after you the cows, after you the fortune of the princes. After you the hosts seek your friendship; after you the gods have measured your strength.
हिरण्यशृङ्गो ऽयो अस्य पादा मनोजवा ऽ अवर इन्द्र ऽ आसीत् । देवा ऽ इद् अस्य हविरद्यम् आयन् यो ऽ अर्वन्तं प्रथमो ऽ अध्यतिष्ठत्
This one with golden horns, his feet are swift as the mind; Indra was his follower behind. The gods came to his offering, for he was the first to mount the steed.
ईर्मान्तासः सिलिकमध्यमासः सꣳ शूरणासो दिव्यासो ऽ अत्याः । हꣳसा ऽ इव श्रेणिशो यतन्ते यद् आक्षिषुर् दिव्यम् अज्मम् अश्वाः
They are rich in milk, with soft hair in the middle, with strong manes, divine are these coursers. Like swans in formation they strive together, when the horses set out on the heavenly path.
