उस्राव् एतं धूर्षाहौ युज्येथाम् अनश्रूऽ अवीरहणौ ब्रह्मचोदनौ । स्वस्ति यजमानस्य गृहान् गच्छतम्
Let the two oxen be yoked to this, without tears, unwearied, inspired by sacred knowledge. May they go to the house of the sacrificer for well-being.
भद्रो मेऽ सि प्रच्यवस्व भुवस्पते विश्वान्य् अभि धामानि । मा त्वा परिपरिणो विदन् मा त्वा परिपन्थिनो विदन् मा वृकाऽ अघायवो विदन् । श्येनो भूत्वा परा पत यजमानस्य गृहान् गच्छ तन् नौ सँ̐स्कृतम्
You are auspicious to me; move forth, O Lord of Speech, to all abodes. May neither those who encircle you nor those who block you nor wolves nor evil-doers know you. Become a hawk and fly away; go to the house of the sacrificer. That is our accomplishment.
नमो मित्रस्य वरुणस्य चक्षसे महो देवाय तद् ऋतꣳ सपर्यत । दूरेदृशे देवजाताय केतवे दिवस् पुत्राय सूर्याय शꣳसत
Homage to the eye of Mitra and Varuṇa, to the great god; worship that truth. Praise the far-seeing, god-born sign, the son of heaven, Sūrya.
वरुणस्योत्तम्भनम् असि । वरुणस्य स्कम्भसर्जनी स्थः । वरुणस्यऽ ऋतसदन्य् असि वरुणस्यऽ ऋतसदनम् असि । वरुणस्य ऽऋतसदनम् आ सीद
You are the support of Varuṇa. You are the pillar-foundation of Varuṇa. You are the seat of truth for Varuṇa; you are the seat of truth for Varuṇa. Sit in the seat of truth for Varuṇa.
या ते धामानि हविषा यजन्ति ता ते विश्वा परिभूर् अस्तु यज्ञम् । गयस्फानः प्रतरणः सुवीरो ऽवीरहा प्रचरा सोम दुर्यान्
May all those abodes of yours, which are worshipped with oblation, encompass you entirely; may you, Soma, be the broad-backed, the crossing, the strong, the destroyer of the weak, move forth among the difficult places.
अग्नेस् तनूर् असि विष्णवे त्वा सोमस्य तनूर् असि विष्णवे त्वातिऽतिथेर् आतिथ्यम् असि विष्णवे श्येनाय त्वा सोमभृते विष्णवे त्वाऽग्नये त्वा रायस्पोषदे विष्णवे त्वा
You are the body of Agni for Viṣṇu; you are the body of Soma for Viṣṇu; you are the hospitality for the guest for Viṣṇu; I appoint you for the eagle, for the bearer of Soma, for Viṣṇu; I appoint you for Agni, for the increase of wealth, for Viṣṇu.
अग्नेर् जनित्रम् असि । वृषणौ स्थः । ऽउर्वश्य् असि । आयुर् असि । ऽ पुरूरवा असि । गायत्रेण त्वा छन्दसा मन्थामि । त्रैष्टुभेन त्वा छन्दसा मन्थामि । जागतेन त्वा छन्दसा मन्थामि
You are the origin of Agni; you are the two vigorous ones; you are Urvaśī; you are life; you are Purūravas; with the Gāyatrī metre I churn you; with the Triṣṭubh metre I churn you; with the Jagatī metre I churn you.
भवतं नः समनसौ सचेतसाव् अरेपसौ । मा यज्ञꣳ हिꣳसिष्टं मा यज्ञपतिं जातवेदसौ शिवौ भवतम् अद्य नः
May you both be of one mind for us, conscious, without stain; do not harm the sacrifice, do not harm the lord of the sacrifice, O Jātavedas; may you both be auspicious for us today.
अग्नाव् अग्निश् चरति प्रविष्ट ऽ ऋषीणां पुत्रो ऽअभिशस्तिपावा । स नः स्योनः सुयजा यजेह देवेभ्यो हव्यꣳ सदम् अप्रयुच्छन्त् स्वाहा
Within Agni, Agni moves, having entered, the son of the seers, the protector from curses; may he be gentle to us, well-invoked at this sacrifice; may he carry the oblation to the gods without fail. Svāhā.
आपतये त्वा परिपतये गृह्णामि तनूनप्त्र्ये शाक्वराय शक्वन ऽ ओजिष्ठाय । अनाधृष्टम् अस्य् अनाधृष्यं देवानाम् ओजो ऽनभिशस्त्य् अभिशस्तिपा ऽ अनभिशस्तेन्यम् अञ्जसा सत्यम् उप गेषꣳ स्विते मा धाः
For approach I take you, for surrounding I take you, for the guardian of the body, for Śākvara, for the most powerful; invincible, unconquered among the gods, strength, unassailable, protector from curses, not to be cursed, may I attain the true path; do not place me among the pale ones.
अग्ने व्रतपास् त्वे व्रतपा या तव तनूर् इयꣳ सा मयि यो मम तनूर् एषा सा त्वयि । सह नौ व्रतपते व्रतान्य् अनु मे दीक्षां दीक्षापतिर् मन्यताम् अनु तपस् तपस्पतिः
O Agni, you are the guardian of vows; this body of yours is mine, and this body of mine is yours; together, O lord of vows, may we follow the vows; let the lord of consecration acknowledge my consecration, let the lord of austerity acknowledge my austerity.
अꣳशुर्-अꣳशुष्टे देव सोमाप्यायताम् इन्द्रायैकधनविदे । आ तुभ्यम् इन्द्रः प्यायताम् आ त्वम् इन्द्राय प्यायस्व । आ प्याययास्मान्त् सखीन्त् सन्या मेधया स्वस्ति ते देव सोम सुत्याम् अशीय । एष्टा रायः प्रेषे भगाय ऋतम् ऋतवादिभ्यो नमो द्यावापृथिवीभ्याम्
May the drop, the well-dropped, the divine Soma, increase for Indra, the sole possessor of wealth; may Indra increase for you, may you increase for Indra; may you increase us, our companions, together with wisdom and well-being; O divine Soma, may you be sweet in the pressing; may desired wealth be sent for distribution, for good fortune, for truth, for those who speak truth; homage to Heaven and Earth.
या ते ऽ अग्ने ऽयःशया तनूर् वर्षिष्ठा गह्वरेष्ठा । उग्रं वचोऽअपावधीत् त्वेषं वचो ऽ अपावधीत् स्वाहा । या ते ऽ अग्ने रजःशया तनूर् वर्षिष्ठा गह्वरेष्ठा । उग्रं वचो ऽ अपावधीत् त्वेषं वचो ऽ अपावधीत् स्वाहा । या ते अग्ने हरिशया तनूर् वर्षिष्ठा गह्वरेष्ठा । उग्रं वचो ऽ अपावधीत् त्वेषं वचो ऽ अपावधीत् स्वाहा
That body of yours, O Agni, which lies in the iron, the greatest, the deepest—may the fierce speech be driven away, may the sharp speech be driven away. Svāhā. तप्तायनी मे ऽसि । वित्तायनी मे ऽसि । अवतान् मा नाथितात् । अवतान् मा व्यथितात् । विदेद् अग्निर् नभो नाम । अग्ने ऽ अङ्गिर ऽ आयुना नाम्नेहि । योऽस्यां पृथिव्याम् असि यत् तेऽनाधृष्टं नाम यज्ञियं तेन त्वा दधे । विदेद् अग्निर् नभो नाम । अग्ने ऽ अङ्गिर ऽ आयुना नाम्नेहि । यो द्वितीयस्यां पृथिव्याम् असि यत् तेऽनाधृष्टं नाम यज्ञियं तेन त्वा दधे । विदेद् अग्निर् नभो नाम । अग्नेऽअङ्गिर ऽ आयुना नाम्नेहि । यस् तृतीयस्यां पृथिव्याम् असि यत् ते ऽनाधृष्टं नाम यज्ञियं तेन त्वा दधे । अनु त्वा देववीतये
You are heated, you are known; may you protect me from abandonment, may you protect me from distress. Agni knows the name Nabhas; O Agni, descendant of Aṅgiras, come with the name Āyu; whoever you are on this earth, whatever unconquered, sacrificial name you have, with that I establish you. Agni knows the name Nabhas; O Agni, descendant of Aṅgiras, come with the name Āyu; whoever you are on the second earth, whatever unconquered, sacrificial name you have, with that I establish you. Agni knows the name Nabhas; O Agni, descendant of Aṅgiras, come with the name Āyu; whoever you are on the third earth, whatever unconquered, sacrificial name you have, with that I establish you. I follow you for the favor of the gods.
सिꣳह्य् असि सपत्नसाही देवेभ्यः कल्पस्व । सिꣳह्य् असि सपत्नसाही देवेभ्यः शुन्धस्व । सिꣳह्य् असि सपत्नसाही देवेभ्यः शुम्भस्व
You are a lioness, subduer of rivals; be fit for the gods. You are a lioness, subduer of rivals; purify for the gods. You are a lioness, subduer of rivals; shine for the gods.
इन्द्रघोषस् त्वा वसुभिः पुरस्तात् पातु । प्रचेतास् त्वा रुद्रैः पश्चात् पातु । मनोजवास् त्वा पितृभिर् दक्षिणतः पातु । विश्वकर्मा त्वादित्यैर् उत्तरतः पातु । इदम् अहं तप्तं वार् बहिर्धा यज्ञान् निः सृजामि
May Indra's voice, with the Vasus, protect you in front; may Pracetas, with the Rudras, protect you behind; may Manojava, with the Fathers, protect you on the right; may Viśvakarman, with the Ādityas, protect you on the left. This heated water I pour out, removing it from the sacrifice.
सिꣳह्य् असि स्वाहा । सिꣳह्य् अस्य् आदित्यवनिः स्वाहा । सिꣳह्य् असि ब्रह्मवनिः क्षत्रवनिः स्वाहा । सिꣳह्य् असि सुप्रजावनी रायस्पोषवनिः स्वाहा । सिꣳह्य् अस्य् आवह देवान् यजमानाय स्वाहा । भूतेभ्यस् त्वा
You are a lioness. Svāhā. You are a lioness, the protection of the Ādityas. Svāhā. You are a lioness, the protection of the Brahman and the Kṣatra. Svāhā. You are a lioness, the bringer of good offspring, the protection of wealth and prosperity. Svāhā. You are a lioness; bring the gods to the sacrificer. Svāhā. I appoint you for the beings.
ध्रुवो ऽसि पृथिवीं दृꣳह । ध्रुवक्षिद् अस्य् अन्तरिक्षं दृꣳह । अच्युतक्षिद् असि दिवं दृꣳह । अग्नेः पुरीषम् असि
You are firm; make the earth firm. You are firmly established; make the atmosphere firm. You are unshaken; make the heaven firm. You are the moisture of Agni.
युञ्जते मन ऽ उत युञ्जते धियो विप्रा विप्रस्य बृहतो विपश्चितः । वि होत्रा दधे वयुनाविद् एक ऽइन् मही देवस्य सवितुः परिष्टुतिः स्वाहा
They yoke the mind, they yoke the thoughts, the wise ones of the wise, the great, the all-knowing; the two Hotṛs, knowing the rites, I appoint; this great praise of the god Savitṛ I recite. Svāhā.
इदं विष्णुर् विचक्रमे त्रेधा नि दधे पदम् । समूढम् अस्य पासुरे स्वाहा
Viṣṇu has measured out this world; he established the threefold step; his dust is all-pervading. Svāhā.
इरावती धेनुमती हि भूतꣳ सूयवसिनी मनवे दशस्या । व्यस्कभ्ना रोदसी विष्णव् एते दाधर्त्थ पृथिवीम् अभितो मयूखैः स्वाहा
May she be rich in refreshment, rich in cows, abundant in good things, granting favor to Manu; Viṣṇu, with his rays, has supported the two worlds, he has held the earth all around. Svāhā.
देवश्रुतौ देवेष्व् आ घोषतम् । प्राची प्रेतम् अध्वरं कल्पयन्ती ऽ ऊर्ध्वं यज्ञं नयतं मा जिह्वरतम् । स्वं गोष्ठम् आ वदतं देवी दुर्ये ऽ आयुर् मा निर्वादिष्टं प्रजां मा निर्वादिष्टम् । अत्र रमेथां वर्ष्मन् पृथिव्याः
Let your divine voices, heard among the gods, resound; go forth to the east, preparing the sacrifice, leading the offering upward; do not falter with your tongues. Speak of your own abode, O divine ones, in the difficult place; do not cut off our life, do not cut off our offspring. May you dwell here in the expanse of the earth.
विष्णोर् नु कं वीर्याणि प्र वोचं यः पार्थिवानि विममे रजाꣳसि । यो ऽ अस्कभायद् उत्तरꣳ सधस्थं विचक्रमाणस् त्रेधोरुगायः । विष्णवे त्वा
Now I shall proclaim the mighty deeds of Vishnu, who measured out the earthly regions; who established the upper abode without support, striding widely three times for the sake of the mighty.
दिवो वा विष्ण ऽ उत वा पृथिव्या महो वा विष्णऽउरोरन्तरिक्षात् । उभा हि हस्ता वसुना पृणस्वा प्रयच्छ दक्षिणाद् ओत सव्यात् । विष्णवे त्वा
O Vishnu, whether from the sky or from the earth, or from the vastness between, fill both hands with riches and grant them from the right and from the left. For Vishnu, I dedicate you.
प्र तद् विष्णु स्तवते वीर्येण मृगो न भीमः कुचरो गिरिष्ठाः । यस्योरुषु त्रिषु विक्रमणेष्व् अधिक्षियन्ति भुवनानि विश्वा
Vishnu is praised for his strength, like a fierce wild beast roaming the mountains; in whose three wide strides all worlds dwell.
विष्णो रराटम् असि । विष्णोः श्नप्त्रे स्थः । विष्णोः स्यूर् असि । विष्णोर् ध्रुवो सि । वैष्णवम् असि विष्णवे त्वा
You are the delight of Vishnu; you are the offspring of Vishnu; you are the bond of Vishnu; you are the steadfastness of Vishnu; you are Vishnu's, and I dedicate you to Vishnu.
देवस्य त्वा सवितुः प्रसवे ऽश्विनोर् बाहुभ्यां पूष्णो हस्ताभ्याम् । आ ददे नार्य् असि । इदम् अहꣳ रक्षसां ग्रीवा ऽ अपिकृन्तामि । बृहन्न् असि बृहद्रवा बृहतीम् इन्द्राय वाचं वद
I place you through the impulse of the divine Savitar, with the arms of the Ashvins and the hands of Pushan. You are a woman. Here, I cut the necks of the demons. You are great, of great speed; speak a mighty word for Indra.
रक्षोहणं वलगहनं वैष्णवीम् । इदम् अहं तं वलगम् उत् किरामि यं मे निष्ट्यो यम् अमात्यो निचखान । इदम् अहं तं वलगम् उत् किरामि यं मे समानो यम् असमानो निचखान । इदम् अहं तं वलगम् उत् किरामि यं मे सबन्धुर् यम् असबन्धुर् निचखान । इदम् अहं तं वलगम् उत् किरामि यं मे सजातो यम् असजातो निचखान । उत् कृत्यां किरामि
Destroyer of demons, breaker of obstacles, of Vishnu: this obstacle I cast away, which my enemy or rival has buried against me. This obstacle I cast away, which my equal or unequal has buried against me. This obstacle I cast away, which my kin or stranger has buried against me. This obstacle I cast away, which my born or unborn has buried against me. I also cast away the sorcery.
स्वराड् असि सपत्नहा । सत्रराड् अस्य् अभिमातिहा । जनराड् असि रक्षोहा । सर्वराड् अस्य् अमित्रहा
You are lord of heaven, slayer of rivals; lord of the sacrifice, destroyer of adversaries; lord of people, destroyer of demons; lord of all, slayer of enemies.
रक्षोहणो वो वलगहनः प्रोक्षामि वैष्णवान् । रक्षोहणो वो वलगहनो ऽव नयामि वैष्णवान् । रक्षोहणो वो वलगहनो ऽव स्तृणामि वैष्णवान् । रक्षोहणौ वां वलगहना ऽ उप दधामि वैष्णवी । रक्षोहणौ वां वलगहनौ पर्य् ऊहामि वैष्णवी । वैष्णवम् असि । वैष्णवा स्थ
I sprinkle you, destroyer of demons, breaker of obstacles, belonging to Vishnu. I lead you down, destroyer of demons, breaker of obstacles, belonging to Vishnu. I spread you out, destroyer of demons, breaker of obstacles, belonging to Vishnu. I place you, destroyer of demons, breaker of obstacles, Vishnu's. I carry you around, destroyer of demons, breaker of obstacles, Vishnu's. You are Vishnu's. You are of Vishnu.
