त्वाम् अग्ने वृणते ब्राह्मणा ऽ इमे शिवो ऽ अग्ने संवरणे भवा नः । सपत्नहा नो ऽ अभिमातिजिच् च स्वे गये जागृह्य् अप्रयुच्छन्
O Agni, these priests choose you; O Agni, be auspicious for our protection. Be the slayer of our foes, the conqueror of those who oppose us; awaken in our home, ever watchful, never failing.
इहैवाग्ने ऽ अधि धारया रयिं मा त्वा नि क्रन् पूर्वचितो निकारिणः । क्षत्रम् अग्ने सुयमम् अस्तु तुभ्यम् उपसत्ता वर्धतां ते ऽ अनिष्टृतः
Here itself, O Agni, establish wealth for us; let not those who have previously harmed us bring you down. May strength, well-disciplined, belong to you, O Agni; may your approacher, unopposed, increase for you.
क्षत्रेणाग्ने स्वायुः सꣳ रभस्व मित्रेणाग्ने मित्रधेये यतस्व । सजातानां मध्यमस्था ऽ एधि राज्ञाम् अग्ने विहव्यो दीदिहीह
With strength, O Agni, seize a long life; with friendship, O Agni, strive for what is worthy of a friend. Stand in the midst of your kin; shine here, O Agni, to be invoked by kings.
अति निहो ऽ अति स्रिधो ऽत्य् अचित्तिम् अत्य् अरातिम् अग्ने । विश्वा ह्य् अग्ने दुरिता सहस्वाथास्मभ्यꣳ सहवीराꣳ रयिं दाः
Surpass the hidden, surpass the secret, surpass ignorance, surpass enmity, O Agni. Overcome all evils, O Agni, and grant us wealth with strong companions.
अनाधृष्यो जातवेदा ऽ अनाधृष्टो विराड् अग्ने क्षत्रभृद् दीदिहीह । विश्वा ऽ आशाः प्रमुञ्चन् मानुषीर् भयः शिवेभिर् अद्य परि पाहि नो वृधे
Unassailable, all-knowing, unconquered, glorious, O Agni, upholder of sovereignty, shine here. Releasing all human fears, protect us today for our growth with blessings.
बृहस्पते सवितर् बोधयैनꣳ सꣳशितं चित् संतराꣳ सꣳ शिशाधि । वर्धयैनं महते सौभगाय विश्व ऽ एनम् अनु मदन्तु देवाः
O Bṛhaspati, O Savitar, awaken him; guide him who is well-prepared across; lead him safely. Make him grow for great good fortune; may all the gods rejoice in him.
अमुत्रभूयादध यद् यमस्य बृहस्पते ऽ अभिशस्तेर् अमुञ्चः । प्रत्य् औहताम् अश्विना मृत्युम् अस्माद् देवानाम् अग्ने भिषजा शचीभिः
May he become one who dwells yonder, where Yama is; O Bṛhaspati, release him from the curse. May the Aśvins drive away death from him; O Agni, physician of the gods, with your powers.
उद् वयं तमसस् परि स्वः पश्यन्त ऽ उत्तरम् । देवं देवत्रा सूर्यम् अगन्म ज्योतिर् उत्तमम्
We have come forth from darkness into light, beholding the higher realm. We have reached the god among gods, the Sun, the highest light.
ऊर्ध्वा ऽ अस्य समिधो भवन्त्य् ऊर्ध्वा शुक्रा शोचीꣳष्य् अग्नेः । द्युमत्तमा सुप्रतीकस्य सूनोः
His flames rise upward, his brilliant rays of Agni ascend. Most radiant is the son with beautiful form.
तनूनपाद् असुरो विश्ववेदा देवो देवेषु देवः । पथो अनक्तु मध्वा घृतेन
Tanūnapāt, the wise Asura, the god among gods, all-knowing, may he anoint the paths with honey and ghee.
मध्वा यज्ञं नक्षसे प्रीणानो नराशꣳसो ऽ अग्ने । सुकृद् देवः सविता विश्ववारः
With honey, delighting in the sacrifice, O Naraśaṃsa, O Agni, the god Savitar, well-worshipped, bestower of all blessings, is pleased.
अच्छायम् एति शवसा घृतेनेडानो वह्निर् नमसा । अग्निꣳ स्रुचो ऽ अध्वरेषु प्रयत्सु
He goes towards the shade with might, anointed with ghee, praised with reverence, the fire in the sacrifices, at the offerings.
स यक्षद् अस्य महिमानम् अग्नेः स ऽ ईं मन्द्रा सुप्रयसः । वसुश्चेतिष्ठो वसुधातमश् च
He, indeed, may enjoy the greatness of Agni, he who is delightful and of excellent gifts, the most active and bestower of wealth.
द्वारो देवीर् अन्व् अस्य विश्वे व्रता ददन्ते ऽ अग्नेः । उरुव्यचसो धाम्ना पत्यमानाः
All the divine doors attend upon him; all the vows are established for Agni, spreading wide, ruling by his domain.
ते ऽ अस्य योषणे दिव्ये न योना ऽ उषासानक्ता । इमं यज्ञम् अवताम् अध्वरं नः
Those two divine maidens, like women in the heavenly womb, Uṣas and Naktā, may they protect this sacrifice, our ritual.
दैव्या होतारा ऽ ऊर्ध्वम् अध्वरं नो ऽग्नेर् जिह्वाम् अभि गृणीतम् । कृणुतम् नः स्विष्टम्
May the two divine Hotṛs raise up our sacrifice; may they praise Agni's tongue. Make our offering well-placed.
तिस्रो देवीर् बर्हिर् इदꣳ सदन्त्व् इडा सरस्वती भारती । मही गृणाना
May the three goddesses, Iḍā, Sarasvatī, and Bhāratī, sit on this sacred grass, great and praised.
तन् नस् तुरीपम् अद्भुतं पुरुक्षु त्वष्टा सुवीर्यम् । रायस्पोषं वि ष्यतु नाभिम् अस्मे
May Tvaṣṭṛ, wondrous and manifold in skill, grant us that extraordinary strength; may he bestow abundance and prosperity upon us.
वनस्पते ऽव सृजा रराणस् त्मना देवेषु । अग्निर् हव्यꣳ शमिता सूदयाति
O Lord of the forest, as you release, rejoicing with your own self among the gods, Agni, the appeaser, prepares the offering.
अग्ने स्वाहा कृणुहि जातवेदो ऽ इन्द्राय हव्यम् । विश्वे देवा हविर् इदं जुषन्ताम्
Agni, Svāhā! Do, O Jātavedas, the offering for Indra; may all the gods accept this oblation.
पीवो ऽ अन्ना रयिवृधः सुमेधाः श्वेतः सिषक्ति नियुताम् अभिश्रीः । ते वायवे समनसो वि तस्थुर् विश्वेन् नरः स्वपत्यानि चक्रुः
Rich in food, wealth-increasing, wise, radiant, he moves with the hosts, adorned with splendor; they, united in mind, have stood for Vāyu, all the men have accomplished lordly deeds.
राये नु यं जज्ञतू रोदसीमे राये देवी धिषणा धाति देवम् । अध वायुं नियुतः सश्चत स्वा ऽ उत श्वेतं वसुधितिं निरेके
For wealth, the two worlds have given birth to him; for wealth, the divine Dhiṣaṇā grants to the god; then the hosts accompany Vāyu, and radiant Vasudhiti is distinguished.
आपो ह यद् बृहतीर् विश्वम् आयन् गर्भं दधाना जनयन्तीर् अग्निम् । ततो देवानाꣳ सम् अवर्ततासुरेकः कस्मै देवाय हविषा विधेम
When the mighty waters, bearing all, hold the embryo, giving birth to Agni, then from them arose the one lord of the gods; to which god shall we offer our oblation?
यश् चिद् आपो महिना पर्यपश्यद् दक्षं दधाना जनयन्तीर् यज्ञम् । यो देवेष्व् अधि देव ऽ एक ऽ आसीत् कस्मै देवाय हविषा विधेम
Whoever beheld the waters in their greatness, holding skill, giving birth to sacrifice, who among the gods was the one god above the others? To which god shall we offer our oblation?
प्र याभिर् यासि दाश्वाꣳसम् अच्छा नियुद्भिर् वायविष्टये दुरोणे । नि नो रयिꣳ सुभोजसं युवस्व नि वीरं गव्यम् अश्व्यं च राधः
By whom you go to the worshipper, accompanied by hosts, for Vāyu's delight in the home; grant us wealth easy to enjoy, grant us heroic sons, cattle, horses, and gifts.
आ नो नियुद्भिः शतिनीभिर् अध्वरꣳ सहस्रिणीभिर् उप याहि यज्ञम् । वायो ऽ अस्मिन् सवने मादयस्व यूयं पात स्वस्तिभिः सदा नः
Come to us with your hosts, hundreds and thousands, to the sacrifice, approach the offering; O Vāyu, rejoice in this pressing, may you always protect us with blessings.
नियुत्वान् वायवा गह्य् अयꣳ शुक्रो अयामि ते । गन्तासि सुन्वतो गृहम्
Vāyu, accompanied by hosts, come; I approach you, O radiant one; you shall enter the house of the one who presses Soma.
वायो शुक्रो ऽ अयामि ते मध्वो ऽ अग्रं दिविष्टिषु । आ याहि सोमपीतये स्पार्हो देव नियुत्वता
Vāyu, O radiant one, I approach you, the foremost of the sweet, among those who dwell in heaven; come for the drinking of Soma, O splendid god, accompanied by hosts.
वायुर् अग्रेगा यज्ञप्रीः साकं गन् मनसा यज्ञम् । शिवो नियुद्भिः शिवाभिः
Vāyu, the leader, pleased by sacrifice, together with the group and mind, attends the offering; auspicious with auspicious hosts.
वायो ये ते सहस्रिणो रथासस् तेभिर् आ गहि । नियुत्वान्त् सोमपीतये
Vāyu, those thousand chariots of yours, with them come; accompanied by hosts, for the drinking of Soma.
