इयं ते यज्ञिया तनूः । अपो मुञ्चामि न प्रजाम् । अꣳहोमुचः स्वाहाकृताः पृथिवीम् आविशत । पृथिव्या संभव
This is your worshipful body. I release the waters, not the offspring. O sin-removers, called by Svāhā, enter the earth. Be born of the earth.
अग्ने त्वꣳ सु जागृहि वयꣳ सु मन्दिषीमहि । रक्षा णो ऽ अप्रयुच्छन् प्रबुधे नः पुनस् कृधि
O Agni, may you keep watch well; may we be full of vigor. Protect us, O unsleeping one; awaken us again.
पुनर् मनः पुनर् आयुर् म ऽआगन् पुनः प्राणः पुनर् आत्मा मऽ आगन् पुनश् चक्षुः पुनः श्रोत्रं म ऽआगन् । वैश्वानरोऽ अदब्धस् तनूपा ऽअग्निर् नः पातु दुरिताद् अवद्यात्
May my mind, my life, return again; may my breath, my self, return again; may my sight, my hearing, return again. May Vaiśvānara Agni, unassailable, protector of the body, guard us from misfortune and harm.
त्वम् अग्ने व्रतपा ऽ असि देव ऽ आ मर्त्येष्व् आ त्वं यज्ञेष्व् ईड्यः । रास्वेयत्सोमा भूयो भर देवो नः सविता वसोर् दाता वस्व् अदात्
You, Agni, are the guardian of vows among gods and mortals; you are to be praised in sacrifices. May the god Savitṛ, giver of wealth, grant us riches; may he bestow the desired wealth.
एषा ते शुक्र तनूर् एतद् वर्चस् तया सं भव भ्राजं गच्छ । जूर् असि धृता मनसा जुष्टा विष्णवे
This is your radiant form; this is your brilliance—become one with it, go forth shining. You are held, chosen with a devoted mind, for Viṣṇu.
तस्यास् ते सत्यसवसः प्रसवे तन्वो यन्त्रम् अशीय स्वाहा । शुक्रम् असि चन्द्रम् अस्य् अमृतम् असि वैश्वदेवम् असि
In the impulse of that true, powerful one, may I enter the mechanism of your body—Svāhā. You are the bright one, you are the moon, you are the immortal, you are the Vaiśvadeva.
चिद् असि मनासि धीर् असि दक्षिणासि क्षत्रियासि यज्ञियास्य् अदितिर् अस्य् उभयतःशीर्ष्णी । सा नः सुप्राची सुप्रतीच्य् एधि मित्रस् त्वा पदि बध्नीतां पूषाऽध्वनस् पात्व् इन्द्रायाध्यक्षाय
You are consciousness, you are mind, you are wise, you are skilled, you are a warrior, you are fit for sacrifice, you are Aditi, you are two-headed. May you grow auspiciously in the east and west; may Mitra bind you to the path, may Pūṣan protect you on the road, and may Indra oversee you.
अनु त्वा माता मन्यताम् अनु पिताऽनु भ्राता सगर्भ्यो ऽनु सखा सयूथ्यः । सा देवि देवम् अच्छेहीन्द्राय सोमꣳ रुद्रस् त्वा वर्तयतु स्वस्ति सोमसखा पुनर् एहि
Let your mother approve you, let your father, let your brother, let your womb-mate, let your companion, let your herd-mate approve you. O goddess, go to the god; let Rudra guide you to Indra and Soma for well-being. Friend of Soma, return.
वस्व्य् अस्य् अदितिर् अस्यादित्यासि रुद्रासि चन्द्रासि । बृहस्पतिष् ट्वा सुम्ने रम्णातु रुद्रो वसुभिर् आ चके
You are Vasvi, you are Aditi, you are Aditya, you are Rudra, you are Chandra. May Bṛhaspati delight you with favor; may Rudra approach you with the Vasus.
अदित्यास् त्वा मूर्धन्न् आ जिघर्मि देवयजने पृथिव्याऽ इडायास् पदम् असि घृतवत् स्वाहा । अस्मे रमस्व । अस्मे ते बन्धुः । त्वे रायः । मे रायः । मा वयꣳ रायस्पोषेण वि यौष्म । तोतो रायः
O Adityas, I touch your head in the divine sacrifice; you are the ghee-filled step of the earth and Iḍā. Dwell with us. You are our kin. In you is wealth. My wealth is in you. May we not be separated from wealth by its loss. That is wealth.
सम् अख्ये देव्या धिया सं दक्षिणयोरुचक्षसा । मा मऽ आयुः प्र मोषीर् मो ऽअहं तव । वीरं विदेय तव देवि संदृशि
I join with the goddess through wisdom, through skill, through shining vision. Do not take away my life, nor my self, nor my belonging to you. May I see your hero, O goddess, in your presence.
एष ते गायत्रो भागऽ इति मे सोमाय ब्रूताद् एष ते त्रैष्टुभो भागऽ इति मे सोमाय ब्रूताद् एष ते जागतो भागऽ इति मे सोमाय ब्रूताच् छन्दोनामानाꣳ साम्राज्यं गच्छेति मे सोमाय ब्रूतात् । आस्माकोऽ सि शुक्रस् ते ग्रह्यो विचितस् त्वा वि चिन्वन्तु
Let this be your share of the Gāyatrī, so say to Soma; let this be your share of the Triṣṭubh, so say to Soma; let this be your share of the Jagatī, so say to Soma; let sovereignty over the meters be attained, so say to Soma. You are ours, your brilliance is to be seized; let the skilled ones seek you out.
अभि त्यं देवꣳ सवितारम् ओण्योः कविक्रतुम् अर्चामि सत्यसवꣳ रत्नधाम् अभि प्रियं मतिं कविम् । ऊर्ध्वा यस्यामतिर् भा अदिद्युतत् सवीमनि हिरण्यपाणिर् अमिमीत सुक्रतुः कृपा स्वः । प्रजाभ्यस् त्वा । प्रजास् त्वाऽनुप्राणन्तु प्रजास् त्वम् अनुप्राणिहि
I praise the god Savitṛ, the wise, the true, the holder of treasures, the beloved, the inspired sage. His lofty thought shines forth, his radiance is measured by Savitṛ, the golden-handed, the skillful, the merciful, the heavenly. For the offspring, for the offspring, let them breathe after you; you breathe after the offspring.
शुक्रं त्वा शुक्रेण क्रीणामि चन्द्रं चन्द्रेणामृतम् अमृतेन । सग्मे ते गोः । अस्मे ते चन्द्राणि । तपसस् तनूर् असि प्रजापतेर् वर्णः परमेण पशुना क्रीयसे सहस्रपोषं पुषेयम्
I purchase you, the bright one, with brightness; the moon with the moon, the immortal with immortality. Your cow is united; your moons are with us. You are the body of austerity, the color of Prajāpati; you are purchased with the supreme beast. May I nourish a thousandfold abundance.
मित्रो नऽ एहि सुमित्रधः । ऽ इन्द्रस्योरुम् आ विश दक्षिणम् उशन्न् उशन्तꣳ स्योनः स्योनम् । स्वान भ्राजाङ्घारे बम्भारे हस्त सुहस्त कृशानो । एते वः सोमक्रयणास् तान् रक्षध्वं मा वो दभन्
Come to us, Mitra, as a good friend. Enter Indra's wide space, O radiant one, O gentle one, O pleasant one. O shining, flaming, dexterous-handed, well-handed fire, these are your Soma-purchasers; protect them, let none harm you.
परि माग्ने दुश्चरिताद् बाधस्वा मा सुचरिते भज । उद् आयुषा स्वायुषोदस्थाम् अमृताꣳ ऽअनु
O Agni, drive away evil conduct from me; do not share in good conduct. Rise up with life, with your own life, with immortality.
प्रति पन्थाम् अपद्महि स्वस्तिगाम् अनेहसम् । येन विश्वाः परि द्विषो वृणक्ति विन्दते वसु
Let us find the path, the way to well-being, free from harm, by which all foes are warded off and wealth is gained.
अदित्यास् त्वग् असि । अदित्यै सद ऽआ सीद । अस्तभ्नाद् द्यां वृषभो ऽ अन्तरिक्षम् अमिमीत वरिमाणं पृथिव्याः । आसीदद् विश्वा भुवनानि सम्राड् विश्वेत् तानि वरुणस्य व्रतानि
You are the skin of the Adityas. Sit always with the Adityas. The bull propped up the sky, measured the expanse of the atmosphere, and the breadth of the earth. The sovereign sat among all worlds; all these are the ordinances of Varuṇa.
वनेषु व्यन्तरिक्षं ततान वाजम् अर्वत्सु पय ऽउस्रियासु । हृत्सु क्रतुं वरुणो विक्ष्व् अग्निं दिवि सूर्यम् अदधात् सोमम् अद्रौ
He stretched the atmosphere in the forests, strength among horses, milk among cows. In hearts, Varuṇa placed resolve; among villages, fire; in the sky, the sun; in the mountains, Soma.
सूर्यस्य चक्षुर् आरोहाग्नेर् अक्ष्णः कनीनकम् । यत्रैतशेभिर् ईयसे भ्राजमानो विपश्चिता
Ascend to the eye of the sun, to the pupil of Agni's eye, where you journey with these, shining, wise.
उस्राव् एतं धूर्षाहौ युज्येथाम् अनश्रूऽ अवीरहणौ ब्रह्मचोदनौ । स्वस्ति यजमानस्य गृहान् गच्छतम्
Let the two oxen be yoked to this, without tears, unwearied, inspired by sacred knowledge. May they go to the house of the sacrificer for well-being.
भद्रो मेऽ सि प्रच्यवस्व भुवस्पते विश्वान्य् अभि धामानि । मा त्वा परिपरिणो विदन् मा त्वा परिपन्थिनो विदन् मा वृकाऽ अघायवो विदन् । श्येनो भूत्वा परा पत यजमानस्य गृहान् गच्छ तन् नौ सँ̐स्कृतम्
You are auspicious to me; move forth, O Lord of Speech, to all abodes. May neither those who encircle you nor those who block you nor wolves nor evil-doers know you. Become a hawk and fly away; go to the house of the sacrificer. That is our accomplishment.
नमो मित्रस्य वरुणस्य चक्षसे महो देवाय तद् ऋतꣳ सपर्यत । दूरेदृशे देवजाताय केतवे दिवस् पुत्राय सूर्याय शꣳसत
Homage to the eye of Mitra and Varuṇa, to the great god; worship that truth. Praise the far-seeing, god-born sign, the son of heaven, Sūrya.
वरुणस्योत्तम्भनम् असि । वरुणस्य स्कम्भसर्जनी स्थः । वरुणस्यऽ ऋतसदन्य् असि वरुणस्यऽ ऋतसदनम् असि । वरुणस्य ऽऋतसदनम् आ सीद
You are the support of Varuṇa. You are the pillar-foundation of Varuṇa. You are the seat of truth for Varuṇa; you are the seat of truth for Varuṇa. Sit in the seat of truth for Varuṇa.
या ते धामानि हविषा यजन्ति ता ते विश्वा परिभूर् अस्तु यज्ञम् । गयस्फानः प्रतरणः सुवीरो ऽवीरहा प्रचरा सोम दुर्यान्
May all those abodes of yours, which are worshipped with oblation, encompass you entirely; may you, Soma, be the broad-backed, the crossing, the strong, the destroyer of the weak, move forth among the difficult places.
अग्नेस् तनूर् असि विष्णवे त्वा सोमस्य तनूर् असि विष्णवे त्वातिऽतिथेर् आतिथ्यम् असि विष्णवे श्येनाय त्वा सोमभृते विष्णवे त्वाऽग्नये त्वा रायस्पोषदे विष्णवे त्वा
You are the body of Agni for Viṣṇu; you are the body of Soma for Viṣṇu; you are the hospitality for the guest for Viṣṇu; I appoint you for the eagle, for the bearer of Soma, for Viṣṇu; I appoint you for Agni, for the increase of wealth, for Viṣṇu.
अग्नेर् जनित्रम् असि । वृषणौ स्थः । ऽउर्वश्य् असि । आयुर् असि । ऽ पुरूरवा असि । गायत्रेण त्वा छन्दसा मन्थामि । त्रैष्टुभेन त्वा छन्दसा मन्थामि । जागतेन त्वा छन्दसा मन्थामि
You are the origin of Agni; you are the two vigorous ones; you are Urvaśī; you are life; you are Purūravas; with the Gāyatrī metre I churn you; with the Triṣṭubh metre I churn you; with the Jagatī metre I churn you.
भवतं नः समनसौ सचेतसाव् अरेपसौ । मा यज्ञꣳ हिꣳसिष्टं मा यज्ञपतिं जातवेदसौ शिवौ भवतम् अद्य नः
May you both be of one mind for us, conscious, without stain; do not harm the sacrifice, do not harm the lord of the sacrifice, O Jātavedas; may you both be auspicious for us today.
अग्नाव् अग्निश् चरति प्रविष्ट ऽ ऋषीणां पुत्रो ऽअभिशस्तिपावा । स नः स्योनः सुयजा यजेह देवेभ्यो हव्यꣳ सदम् अप्रयुच्छन्त् स्वाहा
Within Agni, Agni moves, having entered, the son of the seers, the protector from curses; may he be gentle to us, well-invoked at this sacrifice; may he carry the oblation to the gods without fail. Svāhā.
आपतये त्वा परिपतये गृह्णामि तनूनप्त्र्ये शाक्वराय शक्वन ऽ ओजिष्ठाय । अनाधृष्टम् अस्य् अनाधृष्यं देवानाम् ओजो ऽनभिशस्त्य् अभिशस्तिपा ऽ अनभिशस्तेन्यम् अञ्जसा सत्यम् उप गेषꣳ स्विते मा धाः
For approach I take you, for surrounding I take you, for the guardian of the body, for Śākvara, for the most powerful; invincible, unconquered among the gods, strength, unassailable, protector from curses, not to be cursed, may I attain the true path; do not place me among the pale ones.
