समिद्ध ऽ इन्द्र ऽ उषसाम् अनीके पुरोरुचा पूर्वकृद् वावृधानः । त्रिभिर् देवैस् त्रिꣳशता वज्रबाहुर् जघान वृत्रं वि दुरो ववार
Kindled, O Indra, at the forefront of the dawns, you, the ancient, have grown strong; with three gods, with thirty, the wielder of the bolt struck down Vṛtra and drove away the foes.
नराशꣳसः प्रति शूरो मिमानस् तनूनपात् प्रति यज्ञस्य धाम । गोभिर् वपावान् मधुना समञ्जन् हिरण्यैश् चन्द्री यजति प्रचेताः
Narāśaṃsa, the hero, measures out, Tanūnapāt, the seat of the sacrifice; adorned with cows, anointed with honey, the wise one worships with gold-bright offerings.
ईडितो देवैर् हरिवाꣳ२ऽ अभिष्टिर् आजुह्वानो हविषा शर्धमानः । पुरंदरो गोत्रभिद् वज्रबाहुर् आ यातु यज्ञम् उप नो जुषाणः
Praised by the gods, possessing bay steeds, invoked, eager with the offering, striving, let Purandara, breaker of enclosures, wielder of the bolt, come to the sacrifice, accepting us.
जुषाणो बर्हिर् हरिवान् न ऽ इन्द्रः प्राचीनꣳ सीदत् प्रदिशा पृथिव्याः । उरुप्रथाः प्रथमानꣳ स्योनम् आदित्यैर् अक्तं वसुभिः सजोषाः
Accepting the seat, Indra, possessing bay steeds, sits facing east, in the region of the earth; wide-spreading, the foremost, auspicious, anointed with the Ādityas, united with the Vasus.
इन्द्रं दुरः कवष्यो धावमाना वृषाणं यन्तु जनयः सुपत्नीः । द्वारो देवीर् अभितो वि श्रयन्ताꣳ सुवीरा वीरं प्रथमाना महोभिः
Let the swift wives, good spouses, hastening, bring Indra, the bull, the Kavaṣyas; let the divine doors open wide around, let the strong, foremost with might, hero enter.
उषासानक्ता बृहती बृहन्तं पयस्वती सुदुघे शूरम् इन्द्रम् । तन्तुं ततं पेशसा संवयन्ती देवानां देवं यजतः सुरुक्मे
Uṣas and Naktā, great and mighty, rich in milk, ever-yielding, bring the heroic Indra; weaving the stretched thread with skill, the god of gods, the worshipful, of splendid radiance.
दैव्या मिमाना मनुषः पुरुत्रा होताराव् इन्द्रं प्रथमा सुवाचा । मूर्द्धन् यज्ञस्य मधुना दधाना प्राचीनं ज्योतिर् हविषा वृधातः
The divine and human Hotṛ priests, in many places, first call upon Indra with sweet words; bearing the head of the sacrifice with honey, they increase the ancient light with the offering.
तिस्रो देवीर् हविषा वर्धमाना ऽ इन्द्रं जुषाणा जनयो न पत्नीः । अच्छिन्नं तन्तुं पयसा सरस्वतीडा देवी भारती विश्वतूर्तिः
Three goddesses, growing with the offering, accepting Indra as wives accept their husband; Sarasvatī, Iḍā, and Bhāratī, the all-supporting, with unbroken thread and nourishment.
त्वष्टा दधच्छुष्मम् इन्द्राय वृष्णे ऽपाको ऽचिष्टुर् यशसे पुरूणि । वृषा यजन् वृषणं भूरिरेता मूर्धन् यज्ञस्य सम् अनक्तु देवान्
Tvaṣṭṛ, placing strength for Indra the mighty, has fashioned many glorious things for fame; the bull, sacrificing, seeks the bull, let these, bearing the head of the sacrifice, unite the gods.
वनस्पतिर् अवसृष्टो न पाशैस् त्मन्या समञ्जञ्छमिता न देवः । इन्द्रस्य हव्यैर् जठरं पृणानः स्वदाति यज्ञं मधुना घृतेन
The forest lord, released, not bound by snares, stands upright, tamed, like a god; filling Indra’s belly with offerings, he sweetens the sacrifice with honey and ghee.
स्तोकानां इन्दुं प्रति शूर ऽ इन्द्रो वृषायमाणो वृषभस् तुराषाट् । घृतप्रुषा मनसा मोदमानाः स्वाहा देवा ऽ अमृता मादयन्ताम्
For the small drops, let Indra the hero, urged on, the bull, the mighty, approach; may the gods, immortal, rejoicing in mind, delight in the sacrifice with ghee.
आ यात्व् इन्द्रो ऽवस ऽ उप न ऽ इह स्तुतः सधमादस्तु शूरः । वावृधानस् तविषीर् यस्य पूर्वीर् द्यौर् न क्षत्रम् अभिभूति पुष्यात्
May Indra come here for help, praised, the hero at the feast; ever growing in strength, whose powers are many, may heaven, like his dominion, flourish unconquered.
आ न ऽ इन्द्रो दूराद् आ न ऽ आसाद् अभिष्टिकृद् अवसे यासद् उग्रः । ओजिष्ठेभिर् नृपतिर् वज्रबाहुः संगे समत्सु तुर्वणिः पृतन्यून्
May Indra come to us from afar, may he approach, the mighty, bringing aid; the lord of men, with strongest arms, wielder of the thunderbolt, let him conquer our foes in battles and contests.
आ न इन्द्रो हरिभिर् यात्व् अच्छार्वाचीनो ऽवसे राधसे च । तिष्ठाति वज्री मघवा विरप्शीमं यज्ञम् अनु नो वाजसातौ
May Indra come to us with his bays, turning towards us for help and bounty; let the thunderer, the bountiful, the far-seeing, stand by us in this sacrifice and in the contest for strength.
त्रातारम् इन्द्रम् अवितारम् इन्द्रꣳ हवे-हवे सुहवꣳ शूरम् इन्द्रम् । ह्वयामि शक्रं पुरुहूतम् इन्द्रꣳ स्वस्ति नो मघवा धात्व् इन्द्रः
I call Indra the protector, Indra the helper, Indra the easily-invoked hero at every call; I invoke Śakra, much-invoked Indra; may the bountiful Indra grant us well-being.
इन्द्रः सुत्रामा स्ववाꣳ२ऽ अवोभिः सुमृडीको भवतु विश्ववेदाः । बाधतां द्वेषो ऽ अभयं कृणोतु सुवीर्यस्य पतयः स्याम
May Indra, of excellent guidance, of good gifts, be gracious to us with his help, all-knowing; may he drive away hatred and make us fearless, may we be lords of heroic strength.
तस्य वयꣳ सुमतौ यज्ञियस्यापि भद्रे सौमनसे स्याम । स सुत्रामा स्ववाꣳ२ऽ इन्द्रो ऽ अस्मे आराच्चिद् द्वेषः सनुतर् युयोतु
May we be in the good favor and happy mind of that worshipful one; may Indra, of excellent guidance, of good gifts, keep away hatred from us, even from afar.
आ मन्द्रैर् इन्द्र हरिभिर् याहि मयूररोमभिः । मा त्वा के चिन् नि यमन् विं ना पाशिनो ऽति धन्वेव ताꣳ२ऽ इहि
Come, Indra, with your delightful bays adorned with peacock plumes; let no one restrain you, nor the fetterers bind you—come here as an arrow flies beyond the bowstring.
एवेद् इन्द्रं वृषणं वज्रबाहुं वसिष्ठासो ऽ अभ्य् अर्चन्त्य् अर्कैः । स न स्तुतो वीरवद् धातु गोमद् यूयं पात स्वस्तिभिः सदा नः
Thus the Vasiṣṭhas praise Indra, the mighty, the thunder-armed, with hymns; may he, thus praised, grant us heroes and cattle—may you always protect us with blessings.
समिद्धो ऽ अग्निर् अश्विना तप्तो घर्मो विराट् सुतः । दुहे धेनुः सरस्वती सोमꣳ शुक्रम् इहेन्द्रियम्
Kindled Agni, the Aśvins, the heated vessel, the shining Soma pressed; Sarasvatī, the cow, yields the bright Soma here, the strength for Indra.
तनूपा भिषजा सुते ऽश्विनोभा सरस्वती । अध्वा रजाꣳसीन्द्रियम् इन्द्राय पथिभिर् वहान्
The Aśvins, physicians of the body, Sarasvatī, bring strength in the pressing; they carry the power for Indra along the paths, traversing the ways.
इन्द्रायेन्दुꣳ सरस्वती नराशꣳसेन नग्नहुम् । अधाताम् अश्विना मधु भेषजं भिषजा सुते
For Indra, Sarasvatī with Naraśaṃsa and Nagnahu, the Aśvins have placed the honeyed medicine in the pressing.
आजुह्वाना सरस्वतीन्द्रायेन्द्रियाणि वीर्यम् । इडाभिर् अश्विनाव् इषꣳ समूर्जꣳ सꣳ रयिं दधुः
Sarasvatī, invoking strength and power for Indra; the Aśvins with Iḍā have bestowed food, nourishment, and wealth.
अश्विना नमुचेः सुतꣳ सोमꣳ शुक्रं परिस्रुता । सरस्वती ताम् आभरद् बर्हिषेन्द्राय पातवे
The Aśvins, for Namuci, the Soma pressed, the bright, flowing; Sarasvatī brought it to the altar for Indra to drink.
कवष्यो न व्यचस्वतीर् अश्विभ्यां न दुरो दिशः । इन्द्रो न रोदसी ऽ उभे दुहे कामान्त् सरस्वती
Like protective coverings, like shining regions, like the two Ashvins, like the distant directions, like Indra, like both the worlds—Sarasvatī grants all desires.
उषासानक्ताश्विना दिवेन्द्रꣳ सायम् इन्द्रियैः । संजानाने सुपेशसा सम् अञ्जाते सरस्वत्या
Uṣas and Night, the Ashvins, the Day, Indra in the evening with his powers—recognizing them, beautifully adorned, they are united with Sarasvatī.
पातं नो ऽ अश्विना दिवा पाहि नक्तꣳ सरस्वति । दैव्या होतारा भिषजा पाताम् इन्द्रꣳ सचा सुते
Protect us, O Ashvins, by day; protect us, Sarasvatī, by night; you two divine priests, healers, may you protect us, together with Indra, at the pressing of the Soma.
तिस्रस् त्रेधा सरस्वत्य् अश्विना भारतीडा । तीव्रं परिस्रुता सोमम् इन्द्राय सुषुवुर् मदम्
Threefold, in three ways, Sarasvatī, the Ashvins, and Bhāratī, have poured out the strong, overflowing Soma, producing exhilaration for Indra.
अश्विना भेषजं मधु भेषजं नः सरस्वती । इन्द्रे त्वष्टा यशः श्रियꣳ रूपꣳ-रूपम् अधुः सुते
The Ashvins bring healing sweetness, Sarasvatī brings healing for us; Tvaṣṭṛ, in Indra, has placed glory and beauty, form after form, at the Soma pressing.
ऋतुथेन्द्रो वनस्पतिः शशमानः परिस्रुता । कीलालम् अश्विभ्यां मधु दुहे धेनुः सरस्वती
In due season, Indra, the Lord of the Forest, rejoicing, has poured out the overflowing Soma; the cow, Sarasvatī, has milked sweet honey for the Ashvins.
