Whether awake or asleep we have committed offenses, may Sūrya release me from all such sin and misfortune.
Whatever offense we have committed in the village, in the forest, in the assembly, in the senses, among the lowly or the noble, or in the matter of one’s own duty—may that be removed.

Whatever is in the waters, O Aghnyā, O Varuṇa, we invoke; from that, Varuṇa, release us. You are the remover of impurity, the cleanser. Remove the sin done by gods and by mortals. O god of many gifts, protect us from harm.
May your heart be in the ocean, deep within the waters; may herbs and waters enter you. May the waters and herbs be friendly to us; may they be unfriendly to those who hate us and whom we hate.
As one is released from a fetter, as one cleanses oneself from sweat after bathing, as clarified butter is purified by a strainer, so may the waters cleanse me from impurity.

We have risen from darkness to behold the higher light; we have reached the divine Sun among the gods, the supreme radiance.

May you be kindled, may we kindle you. You are the fuel, you are the radiance; place radiance in me. May earth, dawn, and sun be in harmony; may the whole world be united. May I become the universal fire’s light, may I enjoy abundant desires. Earth, svāhā.
I place the kindling upon you, O Agni, lord of vows; in you I place the vow and faith. I, the consecrated, kindle you.
Where Brahman and Kshatra walk together in harmony, that world is holy, full of wisdom, where the gods dwell with Agni.
Where Indra and Vāyu walk together in harmony, that world is holy, full of wisdom, where there is no seat for discord.
Let the fiber be joined with your fiber, the rough with the rough; may your fragrance guard the Soma, and the unfailing essence for exhilaration.
They pour, they sprinkle all around, they pour forth and purify; for the tawny, intoxicating drink—what does it say to you, what do you say to it?
O Indra, enjoy for us in the morning the grain-filled, the mixed with gruel, the cake-bearing, the hymn-accompanied offering.
Sing loudly to Indra, O Maruts, the slayer of Vṛtra, by whom the gods, grown in truth, generated the light for the god who is awake.
O Adhvaryu, bring the pressed Soma with stones through the filter; purify it for Indra to drink.
He who is the lord of beings, in whom the worlds are established, who rules the great and the greater—by him I take you, by me I take you.

You are received by me for the Aśvins, for Sarasvatī, for Indra, for Sutrāman; this is your seat—for the Aśvins, for Sarasvatī, for Indra, for Sutrāman.
May my breath be protected, my downward breath, my sight, and my hearing; may my speech be all-healing, you are the uniter of my mind.
Of what is made by the Aśvins, by Sarasvatī, by Indra and Sutrāman, of what is invoked, of what is called, I partake.
Kindled, O Indra, at the forefront of the dawns, you, the ancient, have grown strong; with three gods, with thirty, the wielder of the bolt struck down Vṛtra and drove away the foes.
Narāśaṃsa, the hero, measures out, Tanūnapāt, the seat of the sacrifice; adorned with cows, anointed with honey, the wise one worships with gold-bright offerings.
Praised by the gods, possessing bay steeds, invoked, eager with the offering, striving, let Purandara, breaker of enclosures, wielder of the bolt, come to the sacrifice, accepting us.
Accepting the seat, Indra, possessing bay steeds, sits facing east, in the region of the earth; wide-spreading, the foremost, auspicious, anointed with the Ādityas, united with the Vasus.

Uṣas and Naktā, great and mighty, rich in milk, ever-yielding, bring the heroic Indra; weaving the stretched thread with skill, the god of gods, the worshipful, of splendid radiance.
The divine and human Hotṛ priests, in many places, first call upon Indra with sweet words; bearing the head of the sacrifice with honey, they increase the ancient light with the offering.
Three goddesses, growing with the offering, accepting Indra as wives accept their husband; Sarasvatī, Iḍā, and Bhāratī, the all-supporting, with unbroken thread and nourishment.
Tvaṣṭṛ, placing strength for Indra the mighty, has fashioned many glorious things for fame; the bull, sacrificing, seeks the bull, let these, bearing the head of the sacrifice, unite the gods.
The forest lord, released, not bound by snares, stands upright, tamed, like a god; filling Indra’s belly with offerings, he sweetens the sacrifice with honey and ghee.
