O Mountain-Lord, wielder of the mighty arrow, the people call upon you with reverence and hope. In your hand rests a weapon of power, but let it become a source of blessing—make it auspicious, O Giritra. May your strength never bring harm to the world or its people. With gentle words, we approach you, O dweller among the peaks, so that your presence may bring health to all creation. Let the world be free from sickness, and let your benevolence flow toward us. It was the divine healer who first spoke—he who is the supreme advocate, the one who subdues all serpents and drives away the evil spirits, casting them down. He stands as a shield against all that threatens well-being. We invoke the favor of that resplendent one—copper-red, ruddy, and tawny—who is most auspicious, and of those thousand Rudras who surround him in every direction. May their grace descend upon us. There is one who descends, blue-necked and red, glimpsed by herdsmen and water-bearers alike. When he appears, may he look upon us with compassion and mercy. Salutations to the blue-necked, thousand-eyed, gracious one! To all his beings, we offer our salutations, honoring the vastness of his presence. Release, O Lord, the tension from your bow—let the bowstring fall from both ends, and let the arrows in your hand be set aside. Let the bow of the matted-haired one be unstrung, his arrows rendered harmless, his quiver remain closed and untouched. That missile you hold, so generous in its protection, may it shield us from every side, keeping us safe from harm. May your missile guard us always, and now, lay your quiver aside in this very place. Lower your bow, O thousand-eyed one, with your hundred quivers. Break the points of your arrows, and turn your face toward us in kindness and auspiciousness. We offer salutations to your weapon, to you who have drawn it, to your mighty arms and your bow. May your power be turned to protection, not destruction. O Rudra, do not harm the great nor the small, the young nor the grown. Do not strike our fathers or mothers, nor injure our beloved bodies. Spare our children and descendants, preserve our lifespans, our cattle and horses. Do not strike down our heroic, radiant men—those who offer oblations. We call upon you always, seeking your favor. Salutations to you, golden-armed commander, lord of the directions! Salutations to the trees, the green-haired, to the lord of cattle! Salutations to the tawny, radiant one, lord of paths! Salutations to the adorned, green-haired one, lord of nourishment! Salutations to the roaring one, the hunter, lord of food! To the weapon of Bhava, lord of beings! Salutations to Rudra the archer, lord of fields! To the charioteer, destroyer, lord of forests, our salutations! To the red one, the builder, lord of trees; to the earth-dweller, water-maker, lord of herbs; to the counselor, merchant, lord of enclosures; to the loud-voiced, the wailer, lord of foot-soldiers—salutations! To the all-pervading runner, lord of beings; the enduring, the piercer, lord of piercers; the quiver-bearer, the watchful, lord of thieves; the low-voiced, the wanderer, lord of wilderness—salutations! To the deceiver, the circumventer, lord of robbers; the quiver-bearer, arrow-holder, lord of thieves; the cutters, the slayers, lord of those who steal; the sword-bearers, night-wanderers, lord of those who cut—salutations! To the armies and their commanders; the charioteers and the non-charioteers; the drivers, the gatherers; the great and the small—salutations! To the carpenters and chariot-makers; the potters, the artisans; the Nishadas, the heap-makers; the dogs, the hunters—salutations! To the dogs and their lords; to Bhava and Rudra; to Sharva and the lord of cattle; to the blue-necked and the fair-throated—salutations! To the one with matted hair and the shaven-headed; the thousand-eyed and the bearer of a hundred bows; the lord of the mountains and the all-pervading; the most generous and the swift-moving—salutations! To the short and the dwarf; the great and the greater; the aged and the one who increases; the foremost and the first—salutations! To the bold and the toucher; the one with a quiver and skilled in arrows; the sharp-arrowed and the armed; the self-armed and the good bowman—salutations! To the flowing and the path; the ditch and the heap; the canal and the lake; the roaring and the tranquil—salutations! To the well and the pit; the watercourse and the heated; the pure and the lightning; the rainy and the non-rainy—salutations! To the windy and the rushing; the resident and the guardian of the dwelling; to Soma and Rudra; to the copper-colored and the red—salutations! To the horned and the lord of cattle; the fierce and the terrible; the slayer at the front and at a distance; the killer and the one to be killed; the trees and the green-haired; the star—salutations! To the source of happiness and the bringer of joy; the beneficent and the maker of happiness; the auspicious and the most auspicious—salutations! To the one at the boundary and the one beyond; the one who crosses and the one who lifts across; the one at the ford and the canal; the grassy and the foamy—salutations! Thus, with reverence and devotion, the people offer their salutations in every form and every place, seeking the protection, grace, and auspiciousness of Rudra, the great Lord who pervades all that is.
