In the sacred expanse where the many-horned cows graze, there lie the abodes of the mighty Viṣṇu—his highest step, vast and all-encompassing. There, O wide-striding Viṣṇu, we pray for your protection, encircling you with the strength of our prayers, seeking the power to rule, the growth of wealth, and the establishment of life and offspring. Let prayer, sovereignty, vitality, and lineage be firmly founded by your grace. Behold the wondrous deeds of Viṣṇu, from whom the sacred laws emerge and become manifest—he is the worthy companion of Indra. The wise forever gaze upon that highest step of Viṣṇu, radiant like an all-seeing eye stretched across the sky. You are the one who encloses and protects; may the divine hosts surround you, and may we, in turn, surround the sacrificer with wealth among men. You are the very son of heaven, and this, upon earth, is your place; the forest itself is your cattle. You are the one who approaches—draw near to the gods, to the divine hosts, accompanied by the inspired ones who bear the sacred fire. O god Tvaṣṭṛ, grant us prosperity; may our offerings be pleasing in your sight. O Bṛhaspati, rejoice in abundance and hold fast to the riches. With the noose woven from the gods’ offerings, I release you to truth—let not any man bring you harm. By the divine impulse of Savitar, the arms of the Aśvins, and the hands of Pūṣan, I place you—consecrated by Agni and Soma. May the waters and the plants accept you; may your mother, father, siblings, and companions welcome you. Sprinkled and consecrated by Agni and Soma, you are embraced by all. You are the broad one of the waters. May the divine waters delight in the offering prepared for them. Let your breath mingle with the wind, your limbs unite with the worshipful ones, and may the lord of sacrifice join you with blessing. Protect, O divine ones, the sacrificial animals anointed with ghee. O Revati, bring delight to the sacrificer and enter here. From the vast midspace, together with the divine wind, offer this oblation with your own essence; be whole in yourself. Let rain pour abundantly for the sacrifice, and establish the lord of the rite. Svāhā to the gods—may all offerings reach them. Do not harm the earth, nor injure it. Approach those who have come with reverence, following the streams of ghee along the righteous paths. O divine waters, pure and well-filtered among the gods, carry away all impurity. May we, too, become purifiers, cleansed and well-filtered. I purify your speech, your breath, your sight, your hearing, your navel, your generative organ, your anus, and your conduct—let all be made pure. May your mind, speech, breath, sight, and hearing be filled; whatever is harsh or settled within you, let it be filled, released, and purified. Peace to the days. O healing herb, protect; O sacred power, cause no harm. You are the portion belonging to the Rakṣasas—their presence is cast away. I stand here, fearless before them, driving them into the lowest darkness. With ghee, may heaven and earth be covered; O wind, among the drops, may Agni recognize the clarified butter—svāhā. For the sake of svāhā, rise to the upward-moving wind. O waters, carry away all faults and impurities—every deceit, falsehood, or curse uttered without fear. Free me from such sin, O waters, and may the purifier release me. May your mind unite with mind, your breath with breath. O Agni, let your fire accept you; the waters have joined you, the wind has set you in motion for firmness, and Pūṣan has granted you vigor. May all hatred be far removed. Let those who purify ghee drink the ghee; let those who purify fat drink the fat. You are the oblation of the midspace—svāhā. Offerings to every direction—cardinal, intermediate, further, special, upward—svāhā to all directions. Let the Indra-breath and the Indra-upward-breath shine and be established in every limb. O god Tvaṣṭṛ, may your abundance come forth with all its splendor, in whatever form it takes. Let your companions gather here for aid; may mother and father rejoice in you. Go to the ocean—svāhā. Go to the midspace—svāhā. Go to god Savitṛ, to Mitra and Varuṇa, to day and night, to the meters, to heaven and earth, to the sacrifice, to Soma, to the divine sky, to Agni Vaiśvānara—svāhā to all. Place my mind in my heart. May your smoke rise to heaven, your light to the sun, and may the earth be filled with ashes—svāhā. Do not harm the waters or the plants. O king Varuṇa, release us from every abode. If we have called the cow unfit or invoked Varuṇa in an oath, release us from that, O Varuṇa. May the waters and plants be friendly to us, and unfriendly to those whom we hate or who hate us. These waters, rich in oblation, are invoked with offerings. The god at the sacrifice is rich in oblation; so too may the sun be abundant in offering. I seat you in the house of Agni, the serpent, at the sacred seat. You share the portion of Indra and Agni, of Mitra and Varuṇa, and of all the gods. Those who dwell with the sun, or with whom the sun dwells, may they support our sacrifice. To the heart I offer you, to the mind, to the sky, to the sun. Raise this sacrifice upward to the gods in heaven as the priest. O king Soma, ascend to all people; may all people ascend to you. May Agni, kindled, hear my invocation; may the waters and divine goddesses of the altar attend. May the stones, the wise, know the sacrifice; may god Savitṛ hear my call—svāhā. Divine waters, offspring of the waters, and you, O wave full of oblation and exhilaration—give all this to the gods, the divine ones, to those who drink the bright Soma, to whom you belong—svāhā. You are a ploughman; I lead you forth with the imperishability of the ocean. May waters unite with waters, and plants with plants. O Agni, whomever you protect among mortals in battle, whomever you favor in contests for wealth—he becomes the possessor of enduring riches. Svāhā. With the impulse of Savitar, the arms of the Aśvins, and the hands of Pūṣan, I place you. Roar deeply, and make this sacrifice most pleasing to Indra. With the highest strength of the purifier—powerful, sweet, and nourishing—may you be satisfied, O one renowned among the gods; fulfill me. Satisfy my mind, my speech, my breath, my sight, my hearing, my self, my offspring, my cattle, my groups; do not leave me unsatisfied among the groups. For Indra, for the wealthy, for those who possess Rudra, for Indra, for those who possess the Ādityas, for Indra, for the destroyer of foes, for the eagle, for the Soma-bearer, for Agni, for the increaser of wealth—let the offerings be made. O Soma, whatever light is yours in heaven, on earth, or in the wide midspace—by that, grant wide wealth to these two sacrificers; proclaim it for the gift. You are strong, destroyers of obstacles, praised for your gifts, consorts of immortality. You goddesses, called by the gods, lead this sacrifice and drink the Soma. Do not fear, nor be confused; place strength, O Dhiṣaṇā. Being wise, may you both grant and bestow strength. Sin is destroyed, not Soma. Let all the directions—east, west, north, and below—run toward you. Mother, come forth; let us know the enemy. You alone, O god most mighty, bring peace to mortals. There is no other helper like you, O generous Indra; to you I speak these words. Purify yourself, O powerful one, for the lord of speech, cleansed by the two bright hands. O god, purify yourself for the gods, among whom you have a share. Make the offerings sweet for us. Whatever your name, O Soma, has awakened among the Soma-receivers—to that Soma, for Soma, svāhā, svāhā. I follow the wide midspace. You are consecrated for all the divine and earthly senses. May Tvaṣṭṛ fashion your mind. Svāhā to you, O good-born, for Sūrya. To the gods, to the Marīcis, to the divine portion—whatever is yours, that is true. The one above is struck down, broken—phaṭ. To prāṇa, to vyāna. You are taken up for approach. Restrain within, O generous one; protect the Soma. Worship for wide wealth. Within you I place heaven and earth; within I place the wide midspace. Together with the gods, both near and far, rejoice within, O generous one.
