All that exists in this moving world is enveloped by the Lord. With this understanding, one is invited to enjoy life through renunciation—without coveting the wealth of others. The wise are encouraged to wish for a long life, a hundred years, by performing actions in this spirit. There is no other path; action does not bind those who live this way. Yet, there are realms shrouded in blinding darkness, called demonic worlds. After death, those who destroy their own Self go there. The Supreme, though unmoving, is swifter than the mind itself; even the gods could not reach it, for it moved before them. Though standing still, it surpasses all who run. In it, the wind sets the waters. This Reality moves and does not move; it is both far and near. It is within all things and outside all things. Whoever perceives all beings in the Self alone, and the Self in all beings, finds no doubt. For one who knows that all beings have become the Self, what delusion or sorrow can exist for one who sees this oneness? The Supreme has gone all around—pure, bodiless, woundless, sinewless, spotless, untouched by evil. The seer, wise, all-pervading, self-born, has rightly assigned everything for eternal ages. Those who worship the unmanifest enter blind darkness; yet those who delight only in the manifest enter even greater darkness. The wise have taught that one thing arises from the manifest, another from the unmanifest. Whoever knows both together—manifest and destruction—by destruction crosses over death, and by the manifest attains immortality. Similarly, those who worship ignorance enter blind darkness; those who delight only in knowledge go into even greater darkness. The wise have said that one thing comes from knowledge, another from ignorance. Whoever knows both together—knowledge and ignorance—by ignorance crosses over death, and by knowledge attains immortality. The wind is immortal, but this body ends in ashes. O mind, remember! O doer, remember! Recall what has been done! O Agni, lead us by the good path to prosperity, knowing all our deeds. Remove from us the crooked sin we have committed. To you we offer our most abundant homage. The face of truth is concealed by a golden vessel. That person who is in the sun—I am that person. Om, space, Brahman.
