May the chariot of the far-reaching one surround us on all sides, shielding us with its protective embrace—the very chariot by which the devoted worshipper finds safety. Across earth, atmosphere, and heaven, we pray for blessings: may we be graced with noble offspring, heroic sons, and abundant nourishment. O noble one, safeguard my people; O praiseworthy one, protect my cattle; O tireless one, look after my father. We have come before the all-knowing, the supreme giver of wealth. O Agni, sovereign lord, grant us glory and strength. You, Agni, are the lord of the house, the master of the household, the bestower of riches upon the family—grant us glory and strength. You are the purifier, rich in treasures, the increaser of prosperity; O Agni, purifier, grant us glory and strength. Let the houses not fear nor tremble; with strength, we enter them. With goodwill and wisdom, rejoicing in mind, I enter these homes. Where the traveler is welcomed, where goodwill abounds, to those houses we call; may they recognize us as we recognize them. Here, the cows are invited, the goats and sheep are invited, and the very essence of food is welcomed into our homes. For your welfare and peace, I proceed—may well-being, happiness, and prosperity be ever present. We have arrived at the earthly dwelling of the gods, where all the deities once rejoiced. May these divine waters bring me peace. O sacred herb, protect me. With Ṛc and Sāman, and through Yajus, may we prosper in wealth and nourishment. O consecrated one, do not bring harm. May the waters, our mothers, cleanse us; may those rich in ghee purify us with their essence. Indeed, the divine waters wash away all impurity. Now pure, I approach them. They are the body of consecration and austerity—auspicious and gracious, bringing a radiant form. You are the milk of the great ones, the giver of brilliance—grant me brilliance. You are the pupil of Vṛtra’s eye—grant me sight. May the lord of consciousness purify me; may the lord of speech purify me. May Savitṛ purify me with a pure, unbroken filter, with the rays of the sun. O lord of the filter, purified by the filter, may I attain your pure desire. To you, O gods, we come seeking favor at the sacrifice; to you, O worshipful gods, we call for blessings. Svāhā to the sacrifice arising from the mind; Svāhā from heaven and earth; Svāhā from the atmosphere; Svāhā from the wind—Svāhā. For intention, for wisdom and mind, for consecration and austerity, for Sarasvatī and Pūṣan, all is offered to Agni with Svāhā. To the great, all-beneficent waters, to heaven and earth, to the wide atmosphere—may our oblation reach Bṛhaspati with Svāhā. May every mortal seek the friendship of the divine leader. Let all strive for wealth and choose glory for prosperity—Svāhā. You dwell in the art of Ṛc and Sāman; I take hold of you both. May you not fall from this sacrifice. You are shelter—grant me shelter. Homage to you; do not harm me. You are the strength of this Aṅgiras, the wool-yielder; place strength in me. You are the binding of Soma, the shelter of Viṣṇu and the sacrificer, the womb of Indra. Make the fields fruitful with good crops. Rise up, O tree; stand upright, protect me from harm, from all adverse to this sacrifice. Let Agni the priest, the Brahman, the sacrificial fire, and the sacred tree establish the vow. We invoke divine insight, gracious and auspicious, for success and brilliance, the bearer of sacrifice, fit for the rite—may it be under our control. May the gods, born of mind, yoked by mind, skilled in wisdom and will, protect and guard us; to them, Svāhā. May you, O waters, be sweet and nourishing, dwelling within us, easy to serve. May these divine, immortal, truth-upholding waters grant us health, freedom from disease, and innocence. This is your worshipful body. I release the waters, not the offspring. O sin-removers, called by Svāhā, enter the earth and be born from it. O Agni, may you keep watch well; may we be full of vigor. Protect us, O unsleeping one; awaken us again. May my mind, my life, return again; may my breath and self return; may my sight and hearing return. May Vaiśvānara Agni, unassailable, protector of the body, guard us from misfortune and harm. You, Agni, are the guardian of vows among gods and mortals, to be praised in sacrifices. May Savitṛ, the giver of wealth, grant us riches and bestow the wealth we desire. This is your radiant form, your brilliance—become one with it, and go forth shining. You are chosen with devoted mind for Viṣṇu. By the impulse of that true, powerful one, may I enter the mechanism of your body—Svāhā. You are the bright one, the moon, the immortal, the Vaiśvadeva. You are consciousness, mind, wisdom, skill, a warrior, fit for sacrifice, Aditi, two-headed. May you grow auspiciously in east and west; may Mitra bind you to the path, Pūṣan protect you on the road, and Indra oversee you. Let your mother, your father, your brother, your womb-mate, your companion, your herd-mate approve you. O goddess, go to the god; let Rudra guide you to Indra and Soma for well-being. Friend of Soma, return. You are Vasvi, Aditi, Aditya, Rudra, Chandra. May Bṛhaspati delight you; may Rudra approach you with the Vasus. O Adityas, I touch your head in the divine sacrifice; you are the ghee-filled step of earth and Iḍā. Dwell with us. You are our kin, our wealth is in you; may we not be separated from wealth. That is wealth. I join with the goddess through wisdom, skill, and shining vision. Do not take away my life, my self, nor my belonging to you. May I see your hero, O goddess, in your presence. Let this be your share of the Gāyatrī, so say to Soma; let this be your share of the Triṣṭubh, so say to Soma; let this be your share of the Jagatī, so say to Soma; let sovereignty over the meters be attained, so say to Soma. You are ours, your brilliance is to be seized; let the skilled ones seek you out. I praise Savitṛ, the wise, the true, the treasure-holder, the beloved, the inspired sage. His lofty thought shines forth, his radiance measured by Savitṛ, the golden-handed, skillful, merciful, heavenly. For the offspring, let them breathe after you; you breathe after the offspring. I purchase you, the bright one, with brightness; the moon with the moon, the immortal with immortality. Your cow is united, your moons are with us. You are the body of austerity, the color of Prajāpati; purchased with the supreme beast. May I nourish a thousandfold abundance. Come to us, Mitra, as a good friend. Enter Indra’s wide space, O radiant, gentle, pleasant one. O shining, flaming, dexterous-handed, well-handed fire, these are your Soma-purchasers; protect them, let none harm you. O Agni, drive away evil conduct from me; do not share in good conduct. Rise up with life, with your own life, with immortality. Let us find the path, the way to well-being, free from harm, by which all foes are warded off and wealth is gained. You are the skin of the Adityas. Sit always with the Adityas. The bull propped up the sky, measured the expanse of the atmosphere, and the breadth of earth. The sovereign sat among all worlds; all these are the ordinances of Varuṇa. He stretched the atmosphere in the forests, placed strength among horses, milk among cows. In hearts, Varuṇa placed resolve; among villages, fire; in the sky, the sun; in the mountains, Soma. Ascend to the eye of the sun, to the pupil of Agni’s eye, where you journey with these, shining and wise.
