अ उप शिक्षापतस्थुषो भियसमा धेहि शत्रवे च् पवमान विदा रयिम्
O purified one, place fear in the enemy for those who seek to harm us; grant us wealth, O Soma.
अ उषो षु जातमप्तुरं गोभिर्भङ्गं परिष्कृतम् च् इन्दुं देवा अयासिषुः
The gods have sought the drop, born at dawn, swift-flowing, adorned with cows, and beautifully clarified.
अ उपास्मै गायता नरः पवमानायेन्दवे च् अभि देवां इयक्षते
Sing to him, men, to the purified Indu; the gods approach the purified one with reverence.
अ प्र सोमासो विपश्चितो ऽपो नयन्त ऊर्मयः च् वनानि महिषा इव
The wise Somas, like mighty buffaloes, lead the waters with their waves, moving through the forests.
अ अभि द्रोणानि बभ्रवः शुक्रा ऋतस्य धारया च् वाजं गोमन्तमक्षरन्
The tawny, shining ones, by the stream of truth, overflow the vessels, pouring forth strength rich in cattle.
अ सुता इन्द्राय वायवे वरुणाय मरुद्भ्यः च् सोमा अर्षन्तु विष्णवे
Let the pressed Somas flow for Indra, for Vāyu, for Varuṇa, for the Maruts, and for Viṣṇu.
अ प्र सोम देववीतये सिन्धुर्न पिप्ये अर्णसा च् अंशोः पयसा मदिरो न जागृविरच्छा कोशं मधुश्चुतम्
Soma, for the favor of the gods, swells like a river with its flood; with the milk of the portion, like an awakened one, he approaches the honey-dripping vessel.
अ आ हर्यतो अर्जुनो अत्के अव्यत प्रियः सूनुर्न मर्ज्यः च् तमीं हिन्वन्त्यपसो यथा रथं नदीष्वा गभस्त्योः
The bright, shining one, beloved, like a dear son, is adorned in the vessel; the streams set him in motion as rivers do a chariot between their arms.
अ प्र सोमासो मदच्युतः श्रवसे नो मघोनाम् च् सुता विदथे अक्रमुः
The Somas, pressed and full of exhilaration, have entered the contest for our fame, for the generous ones.
अ आदीं हंसो यथा गणं विश्वस्यावीवशन्मतिम् च् अत्यो न गोभिरज्यते
Just as a swan calls to its flock, they have awakened the thought of all; like a horse, he is not restrained by the cows.
अ आदीं त्रितस्य योषणो हरिं हिन्वन्त्यद्रिभिः च् इन्दुमिन्द्राय पीतये
The wives of Trita press the tawny one with stones, the drop for Indra to drink.
अ अया पवस्व देवयु रेभन्पवित्रं पर्येषि विश्वतः च् मधोर्धारा असृक्षत
By this, O godly one, purify yourself, resounding, you circle the filter on every side; streams of honey have flowed forth.
अ पवते हर्यतो हरिरति ह्वरांसि रंह्या च् अभ्यर्ष स्तोतृभ्यो वीरवद्यशः
The golden one, beloved, is purified; he delights in the shining places; flow forth to the singers, bringing heroic fame.
अ प्र सुन्वानास्यान्धसो मर्तो न वष्ट तद्वचः च् अप श्वानमराधसं हता मखं न भृगवः
The mortal, pressing the Soma, desires the speech of this draught; drive away the barking, envious one, as the Bhṛgus destroyed the sacrifice.
द्वितीय प्रथमो ऽर्धः अ पवस्व वाचो अग्रियः सोम चित्राभिरूतिभिः च् अभि विश्वानि काव्या
O Soma, foremost in speech, flow forth with splendid forms and encompass all acts of wisdom.
अ त्वं समुद्रिया अपो ऽग्रियो वाच ईरयन् च् पवस्व विश्वचर्षणे
You, most excellent in speech, stirring the oceanic waters, flow forth, O Soma, for all peoples.
अ तुभ्येमा भुवना कवे महिम्ने सोम तस्थिरे च् तुभ्यं धावन्ति धेनवः
To you, O wise Soma, these worlds have stood firm in your greatness, and the streams hasten to you.
अ पवस्वेन्दो वृषा सुतः कृधी नो यशसो जने च् विश्वा अप द्विषो जहि
Flow, O Soma, strong and pressed, grant us renown among people, and drive away all hatreds.
अ यस्य ते सख्ये वयं सासह्याम पृतन्यतः च् तवेन्दो द्युम्न उत्तमे
In whose friendship we would prevail over adversaries—by your highest glory, O Soma, may we be victorious.
अ या ते भीमान्यायुधा तिग्मानि सन्ति धूर्वणे च् रक्षा समस्य नो निदः
Those terrible, sharp weapons of yours, ready for battle—protect us from every harm.
अ वृषा सोम द्युमां असि वृषा देव वृषव्रतः च् वृषा धर्माणि दध्रिषे
You are mighty, Soma, radiant; mighty god, with a hero’s vow; you uphold mighty laws.
अ वृष्णस्ते वृष्ण्यं शवो वृषा वनं वृषा सुतः च् स त्वं वृषन्वृषेदसि
Your heroic power is mighty, your might is vigorous, your pressed juice is mighty; thus, you are truly the mighty among the mighty.
अ अश्वो न चक्रदो वृषा सं गा इन्दो समर्वतः च् वि नो राये दुरो वृधि
Like a chariot-horse, strong, you rush together with the swift; O Soma, increase our wealth from afar.
अ वृषा ह्यसि भानुना द्युमन्तं त्वा हवामहे च् पवमान स्वर्दृशम्
For you are indeed radiant with light; we call upon you, shining one, O purified one, who sees the sun.
अ यदद्भिः परिशिच्यसे मर्मृज्यमान आयुभिः च् द्रोणे सधस्थमश्नुषे
When you are sprinkled with waters, purified by the lifespans, you reach the sacred seat in the vessel.
अ आ पवस्व सुवीर्यं मन्दमानः स्वायुध च् इहो ष्विन्दवा गहि
Flow forth for heroic strength, delighting, with your own weapons; come here, O Soma, with the streams.
अ पवमानस्य ते वयं पवित्रमभ्युन्दतः च् सखित्वमा वृणीमहे
As you, O Purifier, rise through the filter, we choose your friendship.
अ ये ते पवित्रमूर्मयो ऽभिक्षरन्ति धारया च् तेभिर्नः सोम मृडय
Those streams of yours, O Soma, which flow through the filter—grant us happiness through them.
अ स नः पुनान आ भर रयिं वीरवतीमिषम् च् ईशानः सोम विश्वतः
O Purifier, bring us wealth, food with heroes, O Soma, ruling over all.
अ अग्निं दूतं वृणीमहे होतारं विश्ववेदसम् च् अस्य यज्ञस्य सुक्रतुम्
We choose Agni as messenger, the priest who knows all, of good counsel for this sacrifice.
