पवस्व वाजसातमो ऽभि विश्वानि वार्या त्वं समुद्रः प्रथमे विधर्मं देवेभ्यं सोम मत्सरः
Flow, bestower of strength, for all desirable things; you, O Soma, are the ocean, the first foundation for the gods, the exhilarating one.
पवमाना असृक्षत पवित्रमति धारया मरुत्वन्तो मत्सरा इन्द्रिया हया मेधामभि प्रयांसि च
The Pavamana Somas have flowed through the filter with their stream; the exhilarating, Marut-accompanied, powerful ones, with their strength and wisdom, and with their courses.
प्र तु द्रव परि कोशं नि षीद नृभिः पुनानो अभि वाजमर्ष अश्वं न त्वा वाजिनं मर्जयन्तो ऽच्छा बर्ही रशनाभिर्नयन्ति
Go forth swiftly, circle the vessel, sit down; purified with men, approach the prize. Like those grooming a swift horse, they lead you to the sacred grass with reins.
प्र काव्यमुशनेव ब्रुवाणो देवो देवानां जनिमा विवक्ति महिव्रतः शुचिबन्धुः पावकः पदा वराहो अभ्येति रेभन्
Proclaiming wisdom like Ushanas, the god reveals the origins of the gods; the great-vowed, pure-banded, blazing one, like a boar, comes forth resounding with his steps.
तिस्रो वाच ईरयति प्र वह्निरृतस्य धीतिं ब्रह्मणो मनीषाम् गावो यन्ति गोपतिं पृच्छमानाः सोमं यन्ति मतयो वावशानाः
He stirs three voices; the fire advances, the inspiration of truth, the thought of the priest. The cows, seeking their lord, approach him; the eager thoughts go to Soma.
अस्य प्रेषा हेमना पूयमानो देवो देवेभिः समपृक्त रसम् सुतः पवित्रं पर्येति रेभन्मितेव सद्म पशुमन्ति होता
His swift streams, golden, being purified, the god mingles with the gods; the pressed juice circles the filter, resounding, like a measured house, the Hotar with cattle.
सोमः पवते जनिता मतीनां जनिता दिवो जनिता पृथिव्याः जनिताग्नेर्जनिता सूर्यस्य जनितेन्द्रस्य जनितोत विष्णोः
Soma is purified, the creator of thoughts, the creator of heaven, the creator of earth, the creator of Agni, the creator of the sun, the creator of Indra, and also of Vishnu.
अभि त्रिपृष्ठं वृषणं वयोधामाङ्गोषिणमवावशन्त वाणीः वना वसानो वरुणो न सिन्धूर्वि रत्नधा दयते वार्याणि
The voices have called upon the mighty, threefold, youthful, swift-flowing one; clothed in the woods, like Varuna among rivers, the bestower of treasures grants riches.
अक्रान्त्समुद्रः प्रथमे विधर्मं जनयन्प्रजा भुवनस्य गोपाः वृषा पवित्रे अधि सानो अव्ये बृहत्सोमो वावृधे स्वानो अद्रिः
He, having crossed the ocean, established the first law, generating offspring, the protector of beings. The mighty one, on the filter, on the unshaken summit, the great Soma has grown, the stone resounds.
कनिक्रन्ति हरिरा सृज्यमानः सीदन्वनस्य जठरे पुनानः नृभिर्यतः कृणुते निर्णिजं गामतो मतिं जनयत स्वधाभिः
The tawny one advances, being released, settling in the womb of the waters, purified; when pressed by men, he makes a clear path, and with his own powers he generates thought.
एष स्य ते मधुमां इन्द्र सोमो वृषा वृष्णः परि पवित्रे अक्षाः सहस्रदाः शतदा भूरिदावा शश्वत्तमं बर्हिरा वाज्यस्थात्
This, your honeyed Soma, O Indra, the strong one, flows around the filter for the vigorous; the thousand-giving, hundred-giving, abundant in gifts, the most constant, has taken his seat on the sacred grass.
पवस्व सोम मधुमां ऋतावापो वसानो अधि सानो अव्ये अव द्रोणानि घृतवन्ति रोह मदिन्तमो मत्सर इन्द्रपानः
Flow, Soma, honeyed, true to order, clothed in waters, on the unshaken summit; ascend the vessels rich in ghee, most intoxicating, the draught for Indra.
प्र सेनानीः शूरो अग्रे रथानां गव्यन्नेति हर्षते अस्य सेना भद्रान्कृण्वन्निन्द्रहवान्त्सखिभ्य आ सोमो वस्त्रा रभसानि दत्ते
The leader, the hero, goes forth at the head of chariots, seeking cows, his army rejoices; making his hosts auspicious, Soma, invoked by Indra, gives swift garments to his companions.
प्र ते धारा मधुमतीरसृग्रन्वारं यत्पूतो अत्येष्यव्यम् पवमान पवसे धाम गोनां जनयन्त्सूर्यमपिन्वो अर्कैः
Your honeyed streams have flowed forth, new, when purified you surpass what is to be crossed; O Pavamana, you flow to the abode of cows, generating the sun with your hymns.
प्र गायताभ्यर्चाम देवान्त्सोमं हिनोत महते धनाय स्वादुः पवतामति वारमव्यमा सीदतु कलशं देव इन्दुः
Sing forth, let us praise the gods; press Soma for great wealth. Sweet may he flow, surpassing the foe; let the god Indu settle in the vessel.
प्र हिन्वानो जनिता रोदस्यो रथो न वाजं सनिषन्नयासीत् इन्द्रं गच्छन्नायुधा संशिशानो विश्वा वसु हस्तयोरादधानः
Urging on, the creator of heaven and earth, like a chariot seeking the prize, sets out; going to Indra, adorned with weapons, he places all treasures in his hands.
तक्षद्यदी मनसो वेनतो वाग्ज्येष्ठस्य धर्मं द्युक्षोरनीके आदीमायन्वरमा वावशाना जुष्टं पतिं कलशे गाव इन्दुम्
When the craftsman, from the desire of the mind or the best speech, fashions the law on the bright anvil, then the eager ones seek the best beloved lord, the cows the Indu in the vessel.
साकमुक्षो मर्जयन्त स्वसारो दश धीरस्य धीतयो धनुत्रीः हरिः पर्यद्रवज्जाः सूर्यस्य द्रोणं ननक्षे अत्यो न वाजी
Together the ten sisters, the wise, purifying streams, cleanse him; the tawny one rushes around, the steed of the sun, he has entered the vessel like a prize-winning horse.
अधि यदस्मिन्वाजिनीव शुभः धियः सूरे न विशः अपो वृणानः पवते कवीयन्व्रजं न मन्म
When in him, like a victorious host, the shining thoughts, like rays of the sun, choose the waters, the wise one flows, like a poet, towards the path.
इन्दुर्वाजी पवते गोन्योघा इन्द्रे सोमः सह इन्वन्मदाय हन्ति रक्षो बाधते पर्यरातिं वरिवस्कृण्वन्वृजनस्य राजा
The strong Indu flows, abundant in cows, Soma for Indra, seeking strength for exhilaration; he destroys the demon, repels the malefactor, granting wide space, king of the people.
अया पवा पवस्वैना वसूनि मांश्चत्व इन्द्रो सरसि प्र धन्व ब्रघ्नश्चिद्यस्य वातो न जूतिं पुरुमेधाश्चित्तकवे नरं धात्
With this purification, purify the treasures; let Indra, the mighty, flow forth in the stream. Even the breaker, whose movement is like the wind, and the wise Purumedhas, establish the man.
महत्तत्सोमो महिषश्चकारापां यद्गर्भो ऽवृणीत देवान् अदधादिन्द्रे पवमान ओजो ऽजनयत्सूर्ये ज्योतिरिन्दुः
That great Soma, the mighty one, became the embryo of the waters, chose the gods, placed strength in Indra, and, as it was purified, generated light in the sun, O Moon.
असर्जि वक्वा रथ्ये यथाजौ धिया मनोता प्रथमा मनीष दश स्वसारो अधि सानो अव्ये मृजन्ति वह्निं सदनेष्वच्छ
The active one was released, swift as a chariot in battle, by thought and by the first inspiration. Ten sisters cleanse the fire on the summit, in the abode, with pure waters.
अपामिवेदूर्मयस्तर्त्तुराणाः प्र मनीषा ईरते सोममच्छ नमस्यन्तीरुप च यन्ति सं चाच विशन्त्युशतीरुशन्तम्
The waves of the waters, swift-flowing, move forward with thought toward Soma, approaching in reverence; they come together and enter the shining, the radiant one.
षष्ठ द्वितीयो ऽर्धः पुरोजिती वो अन्धसः सुताय मादयित्नवे अप श्वानं श्नथिष्टन सखायो दीर्घजिह्व्यम्
The sixth and the second half are for you, O pressers, for the joy of the pressed Soma. Friends, drive away the long-tongued dog from the offering.
अयं पूषा रयिर्भगः सोमः पुनानो अर्षति पतिर्विश्वस्य भूमनो व्यख्यद्रोदसी उभे
This Pūṣan, the wealth, the fortune, Soma, as it is purified, flows forth, the lord of all existence, revealing both heaven and earth.
सुतासो मधुमत्तमाः सोमा इन्द्राय मन्दिनः पवित्रवन्तो अक्षरन्देवान्गच्छन्तु वो मदाः
The pressed Somas, rich in sweetness, delight Indra; purified, they flow, O gods, may your exhilarations reach you.
सोमाः पवन्त इन्दवो ऽस्मभ्यं गातुवित्तमाः मित्राः स्वाना अरेपसः स्वाध्यः स्वर्विदः
The Somas, purified, flow for us, bestowing paths and knowledge; friendly, flawless, self-sustaining, knowing the light.
अभी नो वाजसातमं रयिमर्ष शतस्पृहम् इन्दो सहस्रभर्णसं तुविद्युम्नं विभासहम्
Pour out for us, O Soma, the most prize-winning wealth, desired by hundreds, bearing thousands, with great splendor and shining brilliance.
अभी नवन्ते अद्रुहः प्रियमिन्द्रस्य काम्यम् वत्सं न पूर्व आयुनि जातं रिहन्ति मातरः
They approach us, harmless, desiring what is dear to Indra; like mothers caressing their newborn calf in its early life.
