क्वेयथ क्वेदसि पुरुत्रा चिद्धि ते मनः अलर्षि युध्म खजकृत्पुरन्दर प्र गायत्रा अगासिषुः
Where now, and where have you gone? For your mind is indeed everywhere. You have wandered in battle, breaker of citadels, Purandara; come, let us sing the Gāyatrī for you.
वयमेनमिदा ह्योपीपेमेह वज्रिणम् तस्मा उ अद्य सवने सुतं भरा नूनं भूषत श्रुते
We have poured out this Soma for the wielder of the thunderbolt; therefore, today at the pressing, bring forth the pressed Soma. Surely, you are adorned with fame.
यो राजा चर्षणीनां याता रथेभिरध्रिगुः विश्वासां तरुता पृतनानां ज्येष्ठं यो वृत्रहा गृणे
He who is king of peoples, who rides in chariots, unwearied, who overcomes all hosts in battle, whom I praise as the greatest, the slayer of Vṛtra.
यत इन्द्र भयामहे ततो नो अभयं कृधि मघवञ्छग्धि तव तन्न ऊतये वि द्विषो वि मृधो जहि
From whom, O Indra, we are afraid, from him make us fearless, O bountiful one. Take delight in this for your help; scatter our foes, destroy our enemies.
वास्तोष्पते ध्रुवा स्थूणां सत्रं सोम्यानाम् द्रप्सः पुरां भेत्ता शश्वतीनामिन्द्रो मुनीनां सखा
O Lord of the dwelling, firm pillar of the Soma rites, the drop, breaker of ancient cities, Indra is the eternal friend of the sages.
बण्महां असि सूर्य बडादित्य महां असि महस्ते सतो महिमा पनिष्टम मह्ना देव महां असि
You are great, O Sun, great Aditya, you are mighty. Your greatness, being of the great, is most excellent. By your might, O god, you are great.
अश्वी रथी सुरूप इद्गोमां यदिन्द्र ते सखा श्वात्रभाजा वयसा सचते सदा चन्द्रैर्याति सभामुप
He who is horseman, charioteer, of beautiful form, rich in cattle—when, O Indra, your friend, sharing in strength, always joins with vigor, he approaches the assembly shining.
यद्द्याव इन्द्र ते शतं शतं भूमीरुत स्युः न त्वा वज्रिन्त्सहस्रं सूर्या अनु न जातमष्ट रोदसी
If, Indra, you had a hundred heavens, a hundred earths, even then, O wielder of the thunderbolt, not a thousand Suns would equal you, nor both these worlds together.
यदिन्द्र प्रागपागुदग्न्यग्वा हूयसे नृभिः सिमा पुरू नृषूतो अस्यानवे ऽसि तुर्वशे
When, Indra, you are invoked to the east, west, north, or south by men, then among many peoples you are famed as the helper, you are Turvaśa's support.
कस्तमिन्द्र त्वा वसवा मर्त्यो दधर्षति श्रद्धा हि ते मघवन्पार्ये दिवि वाजी वाजं सिषासति
Who, O Indra, among mortals, dares to challenge you, O wealthy one? For your faith, O bountiful, is established in the highest heaven. The champion seeks victory.
इन्द्राग्नी अपादियं पूर्वागात्पद्वतीभ्यः हित्वा शिरो जिह्वया रारपच्चरत्त्रिंशत्पदा न्यक्रमीत्
Indra and Agni, the foot came from the ancient footed ones; having cast off the head, it seized with the tongue; in thirty steps it advanced by night.
इन्द्र नेदीय एदिहि मितमेधाभिरूतिभिः आ शं तम शं तमाभिरभिष्टिभिरा स्वापे स्वापिभिः
Indra, come nearer, approach with friendly thoughts and aids. With blessings, with most auspicious blessings, with your own powers, come with your own powers.
इत ऊती वो अजरं प्रहेतारमप्रहितम् आशुं जेतारं हेतारं रथीतममतूर्तं तुग्रियावृधम्
From here, may your aid be ageless, the foremost leader, unopposed, swift conqueror, impeller, charioteer, unwearied, increaser of strength for Tugra.
मो षु त्वा वाघतश्च नारे अस्मन्नि रीरमन् आरात्ताद्वा सधमादं न आ गहीह वा सन्नुप श्रुधि
Let not your worshippers or others turn away from us; whether from afar or from the assembly, do not withdraw. Come here, listen to us if you are near.
सुनोत सोमपाव्ने सोममिन्द्राय वज्रिणे पचता पक्तीरवसे कृणुध्वमित्पृणन्नित्पृणते मयः
Press Soma for the drinker of Soma, for Indra, the wielder of the thunderbolt. Cook the offerings for help; make ready the food, filling with delight, filling with joy.
यः सत्राहा विचर्षणिरिन्द्रं तं हूमहे वयम् सहस्रमन्यो तुविनृम्ण सत्पते भवा समत्सु नो वृधे
He who is the universal helper, the wise, Indra—we call upon him. O thousand-powered, of mighty strength, lord of the good, be our strength in battles.
शचीभिर्नः शचीवसू दिवानक्तं दिशस्यतम् मा वां रातिरुप दसत्कदा च नास्मद्रातिः कदा च न
With your powers, grant us, day and night, the best directions. May your favor never fail us; may our lack of favor never come, not at any time.
यदा कदा च मीढुषे स्तोता जरेत मर्त्यः आदिद्वन्देत वरुणं विपा गिरा धर्त्तारं विव्रतानाम्
Whenever the mortal singer grows old for the gracious one, then let him praise Varuṇa with wise speech, the upholder of those who have turned away.
पाहि गा अन्धसो मद इन्द्राय मेध्यातिथे यः सम्मिश्लो हर्योर्यो हिरण्यय इन्द्रो वज्री हिरण्ययः
Protect the cows and the exhilarating drink, O Indra, guest at the sacred feast, who is united with the two bays, golden Indra, wielder of the thunderbolt, golden one.
उभयं शृणवच्च न इन्द्रो अर्वागिदं वचः सत्राच्या मघवान्त्सोमपीतये धिया शविष्ठ आ गमत्
Indra, listen to both our words, come near to this speech; the generous one, eager for Soma, let the most mighty come with wisdom to the pressing.
महे च न त्वाद्रिवः परा शुल्काय दीयसे न सहस्राय नायुताये वज्रिवो न शताय शतामघ
For you, O stone-splitter, nothing is given away for a distant price, not for a thousand, not for ten thousand, O thunderer, not for a hundred, O bestower of hundreds.
वस्यां इन्द्रासि मे पितुरुत भ्रातुरभुञ्जतः माता च मे छदयथः समा वसो वसुत्वनाय राधसे
You are the wealth, Indra, of my father and also of my brother who partakes; my mother too you shelter, O treasure-lord, for the sake of wealth and favor.
चतुर्थ प्रथमो ऽर्धः इम इन्द्राय सुन्विरे सोमासो दध्याशिरः तां आ मदाय वज्रहस्त पीतये हरिभ्यां याह्योक आ
The fourth, the first portion, these pressed Somas are for Indra, with curds and clarified butter; come for that exhilaration, O thunder-handed, to drink with your two bays, come to the home.
इम इन्द्र मदाय ते सोमाश्चिकित्र उकिथनः मधोः पपान उप नो गिरः शृणु रास्व स्तोत्राय गिर्वणः
These Somas, O Indra, are for your exhilaration, famous and praised; having drunk the sweetness, hear our songs, accept the praise, O singer-loving one.
आ त्वाद्य सबर्दुघां हुवे गायत्रवेपसम् इन्द्रं धेनुं सुदुघामन्यामिषमुरुधारामरङ्कृतम्
Today I call to you, O Indra, the ever-yielding cow, the Gayatri-metered, the well-yielding, abundant in nourishment, adorned, for food.
न त्वा बृहन्तो अद्रयो वरन्त इन्द्र वीडवः यच्छिक्षसि स्तुवते मावते वसु न किष्टदा मिनाति ते
No great rocks, O Indra, can restrain you in your might; whatever you desire for the praiser, no withholder can diminish your wealth.
क ईं वेद सुते सचा पिबन्तं कद्वयो दधे अयं यः पुरो विभिनत्योजसा मन्दानः शिप्र्यन्धसः
Who knows with what pressed Soma he drinks, whom the wise one has set, who, delighting, shatters the forts with his might, the sharp one, with exhilarating drink?
यदिन्द्र शासो अव्रतं च्यावया सदसस्परि अस्माकमंशुं मघवन्पुरुस्पृहं वसव्ये अधि बर्हय
O Indra, shake off lawlessness from the assembly; seat our most desired Soma, O generous one, for the sake of wealth, on the sacred grass.
त्वष्टा नो दैव्यं वचः पर्जन्यो ब्रह्मणस्पतिः पुत्रैर्भ्रातृभिरदितिर्नु पातु नो दुष्टरं त्रामणं वचः
May Tvaṣṭṛ, the divine speech, Parjanya, and Bṛhaspati protect us; may Aditi with sons and brothers guard us, may she save us from difficult, harmful speech.
कदा च न स्तरीरसि नेन्द्र सश्चसि दाशुषे उपोपेन्नु मघवन्भूय इन्नु ते दानं देवस्य पृच्यते
When, O Indra, will you be our companion, when will you be with the worshipper? Let the generous one come near, let your gift, O god, be sought again.
