न संस्कृतं प्र मिमीतो गमिष्ठान्ति नूनमश्विनोपस्तुतेह दिवाभिपित्वेवसागमिष्ठा प्रत्यवर्त्तिं दाशुषे शम्भविष्ठा
Let not the prepared offering be measured out; now, O Ashvins, praised here, come for the midday drink; may you, most gracious, return again with favor to the worshipper.
उता यातं संगवे प्रातरह्नो मध्यन्दिन उदिता सूर्यस्य दिवा नक्तमवसा शन्तमेन नेदानीं पीतिरश्विना ततान
And come at the gathering, at dawn, at midday, at the rising of the sun; by day, by night, with peaceful intent; now, O Ashvins, your drink is spread forth.
एता उ त्या उषसः केतुमक्रत पूर्वे अर्धे रजसो भानुमञ्जते निष्कृण्वाना आयुधानीव धृष्णवः प्रति गावो ऽरुषीर्यन्ति मातरः
These Dawns have made their sign; in the first half of the expanse they are adorned with radiance; shining forth like weapons, the red cows, mothers, go forth in order.
उदपप्तन्नरुणा भानवो वृथा स्वायुजो अरुषीर्गा अयुक्षत अक्रन्नुषासो वयुनानि पूर्वथा रुशन्तं भानुमरुषीरशिश्रयुः
The ruddy rays have soared up, their own strength unrestrained; the red cows have been yoked; the Dawns have performed their ancient paths; the shining radiance has settled upon the red ones.
अर्चन्ति नारीरपसो न विष्टिभिः समानेन योजनेना परावतः इषं वहन्तीः सुकृते सुदानवे विश्वेदह यजमानाय सुन्वते
The women, active, sing with their voices, not with weaving; joined together in one yoking, they go afar, bearing nourishment for the doer of good, for the generous, for all who sacrifice and pour the offering.
अबोध्यग्निर्ज्म उदेति सूर्यो व्यूषाश्चन्द्रा मह्यावो अर्चिषा आयुक्षातामश्विना यातवे रथं प्रासावीद्देवः सविता जगत्पृथक्
Agni has awakened, the sun rises; the shining Dawns have spread with their light; the Ashvins have yoked their chariot to go; the god Savitar has set the world apart.
यद्युञ्जाथे वृषणमश्विना रथं घृतेन नो मधुना क्षत्रमुक्षतम् अस्माकं ब्रह्म पृतनासु जिन्वतं वयं धना शूरसाता भजेमहि
When you yoke your vigorous chariot, O Ashvins, pour out for us strength with ghee and honey; inspire our prayer in battles; may we, led by the hero, win riches.
अर्वाङ्त्रिचक्रो मधुवाहनो रथो जीराश्वो अश्विनोर्यातु सुष्टुतः त्रिवन्धुरो मघवा विश्वसौभगः शं न आ वक्षद्द्विपदे चतुष्पदे
Let the chariot with three wheels, carrying sweetness, drawn by swift horses, praised, come here for the Ashvins; may the generous one, possessing all good fortune, bring us happiness for two-footed and four-footed alike.
प्र ते धारा असश्चतो दिवो न यन्ति वृष्टयः अच्छा वाजं सहस्रिणम्
Your streams, like rains from the sky, flow forth; they approach the thousand-fold prize.
अभि प्रियाणि काव्या विश्वा चक्षाणो अर्षति हरिस्तुञ्जान आयुधा
Beholding all lovely songs, he moves forward; the tawny one, stirring up his weapons.
स मर्मृजान आयुभिरिभो राजेव सुव्रतः श्येनो न वंसु षीदति
He, cleansing himself with his limbs, sits like an elephant, like a king with good vows, like a falcon on the branch.
स नो विश्वा दिवो वसूतो पृथिव्या अधि पुनान इन्दवा भर
May he bring to us all treasures from heaven and from earth, purified, O Soma, bring them here.
नवम प्रथमो ऽर्धः प्रास्य धारा अक्षरन्वृष्णः सुतस्यौजसा देवां अनु प्रभूषतः
The ninth, the first portion, has flowed; the streams of the strong, pressed Soma, flow with power, following the gods.
सप्तिं मृजन्ति वेधसो गृणन्तः कारवो गिरा ज्योतिर्जज्ञानमुक्थ्यम्
The wise ones cleanse the team, singing with their voices; the poets, with hymns, have generated the radiant light.
सुषहा सोम तानि ते पुनानाय प्रभूवसो वर्धा समुद्रमुक्थ्यम्
O Soma, mighty one, for your purification, may those powers of yours grow strong, reaching the ocean of praise.
एष ब्रह्मा य ऋत्विय इन्द्रो नाम श्रुतो गृणे
This is the sacred utterance: I praise Indra, renowned by name, the priestly one.
त्वामिच्छवसस्पते यन्ति गिरो न संयतः
To you, Lord of strength, the words go forth, unrestrained.
वि स्रुतयो यथा पथा इन्द्र त्वद्यन्तु रातयः
As streams flow along their path, O Indra, so may gifts come to you today.
आ त्वा रथं यथोतये सुम्नाय वर्त्तयामसि तुविकूर्मिमृतीषहमिन्द्रं शविष्ठ सत्पतिम्
To you we guide the chariot, as is fitting, for favor; O most powerful Indra, mighty, master of riches, breaker of hosts.
तुविशुष्म तुविक्रतो शचीवो विश्वया मते आ पप्राथ महित्वना
With mighty force, with great deeds, endowed with power, by your wisdom you have spread out in greatness.
यस्य ते महिना महः परि ज्मायन्तमीयतुः हस्ता वज्रं हिरण्ययम्
By your greatness, O mighty one, your two hands grasp the golden thunderbolt.
आ यः पुरं नार्मिणीमदीदेदत्यः कविर्नभन्यो नार्व सूरो न रुरुक्वाञ्छतात्मा
He who, as a sage, as a seer, advanced to the ancient city, shining like the sun, with unwearied spirit.
अभि द्विजन्मा त्री रोचनानि विश्वा रजांसि शुशुचनो अस्थात् होता यजिष्ठो अपां सधस्थे
The twice-born priest stood shining across the three heavens, all the regions, most worthy of sacrifice, in the seat of waters.
अयं स होता यो द्विजन्मा विश्वा दधे वार्याणि श्रवस्या मर्तो यो अस्मै सुतुको ददाश
This is that priest, the twice-born, who established all precious things for fame; the mortal who offers to him with Soma gains.
अग्ने तमद्याष्वं न स्तोमैः क्रतुं न भद्रं हृदिस्पृषम् ऋध्यामा त ओहैः
Agni, today with praises may we attain the horse, the good resolve that touches the heart, with your help.
अधा ह्यग्ने क्रतोर्भद्रस्य दक्षस्य साधोः रथीरृतस्य बृहतो बभूथ
Thus, O Agni, you have become the charioteer of the good resolve, the wise, the righteous, the great.
एभिर्नो अर्कैर्भवा नो अर्वाङ्क्स्वार्ण ज्योतिः अग्ने विश्वेभिः सुमना अनीकैः
With these hymns be near to us, O Agni, with all your gracious faces, bring us the radiant light.
अग्ने विवस्वदुषसश्चित्रं राधो अमर्त्य आ दाशुषे जातवेदो वहा त्वमद्या देवां उषर्बुधः
Agni, of Vivasvat's dawns, bring the splendid, immortal gift to the worshipper; O Jātavedas, today awaken the gods.
जुष्टो हि दूतो असि हव्यवाहनो ऽग्ने रथीरध्वराणाम् सजूरश्विभ्यामुषसा सुवीर्यमस्मे धेहि श्रवो बृहत्
For you are the beloved messenger, the carrier of offerings, O Agni, charioteer of the rites; together with the Aśvins, grant us heroic strength and great fame.
विधुं दद्राणं समने बहूनां युवानं सन्तं पलितो जगार देवस्य पश्य काव्यं महित्वाद्या ममार स ह्यः समान
The young one, though gray-haired, has awakened among many in the assembly; see the divine wisdom of the god—yesterday he died, today he is born the same.
