That highest step of Viṣṇu, the inspired poets, ever awake, kindle together.
From there may the gods protect us, from where Viṣṇu has made his strides, upon the ridge of the earth.
Let not you, nor the sacrificer, be angry with us; from afar come to this gathering, or, if near, listen to us.
For these, made by your prayer, at the pressing, the singers, desiring wealth, sit like bees at honey, O Indra; they have placed their foot on the chariot.
I have praised the ancient hymn; speak it forth to Brahman and Indra. The great verses of truth have followed; the thoughts of the singer have flowed forth.
Indra has shaken forth great wealth; together the earth, the sun, the bright and pure ones, the givers of cows, and the Soma juices have gladdened Indra.
Soma, for Indra to drink, for the slayer of Vṛtra, you are poured out, for the man of skill, for the generous one, for the god who sits in his seat.
May we, your friends, O widely-shining one, and you, O wise ones, attain the fragrance of strength; may we gain the wealth of vigor.
They purify that tawny, bay-colored steed with water, who, together with intoxication, goes to all the gods.
What mortal, O Indra of abundant wealth, can overcome you? Indeed, O bountiful one, with faith, the strong one seeks strength in the highest heaven.
Urge us on, O generous one, in the slaying of Vṛtra, those who give dear treasures; by your guidance, O Indra of the bay steeds, may we cross over all difficulties with the wise.
Pour out the exhilarating, honeyed Soma, O Adhvaryu, from the vessel; for thus the ever-growing hero is praised.
Indra, the charioteer of the bays, you do not abandon the ancient praise; you have risen up with your might, not to be restrained.
We call upon him, the lord of strength, O renowned ones, that he may be increased by the wise, by those who do not fail.
With song, the gods have established that god, the radiant, the undeceivable, as the bringer of offerings among the gods.
Desiring abundant gifts, O inspired one, praise Agni, of brilliant flame, the charioteer, for this wisdom, for the Soma, for the shining sacrifice, for the ancient rite.
Soma, pressed by the stones, flows over the unbroken barriers; like a man in a city, the tawny one has taken his seat in the woods.
He has cleansed himself, passing beyond the small ones, like a victorious charioteer longing for strength; the flowing Soma, to be praised, with the wise, with the singers.
We have filled up this mighty, weaponed one today; therefore, at the pressing, bring the pressed Soma for him; now adorn it for the renowned one.
Even the wolf, as his protector, adorns himself in the paths; may he, delighting in this praise, come here, O Indra, with most splendid thought.
Indra and Agni, you adorn the shining realms of heaven with strength; this indeed is your heroic power.
Indra and Agni, the prayers go forth to you; they approach along the paths of truth.
O Indra and Agni, your powers are mighty—your seats and your paths are established, and your protection is assured.
Who knows for whom, at the pressing, you drink together? Who has placed you here—he who, with strength, shatters the forts, delighting in the sweet Soma?
Like a generous beast or an elephant, you both roam in many places; nothing can restrain you. At the Soma pressing, you come with great force, moving mightily.
He who is fierce, well-armed, steadfast, prepared for battle—if the generous one hears the singer, let not Indra go to the woman’s side.
The pure, flowing Somas have streamed forth, O Indus, pervading all sacred works.
The flowing ones have streamed forth from the sky, through the midspace, upon the ridge of the earth.
The swift, shining streams have flowed forth, O Indus, destroying all hatreds.
I call upon you, Indra and Agni, slayers of Vṛtra, ever victorious and unconquered, best givers of strength.
