युध्मं सन्तमनर्वाणं सोमपामनपच्युतम् नरमवार्यक्रतुम्
The fighter, ever unconquered, drinker of Soma, unshaken, the man of unfailing resolve.
शिक्षा ण इन्द्र राय आ पुरु विद्वां ऋचीषम अवा नः पार्ये धने
Grant us, Indra, wealth—knowing abundance—protect us in the contest for riches.
तव त्यदिन्द्रियं बृहत्तव दक्ष्ममुत क्रतुम् वज्रं शिशाति धिषणा वरेण्यम्
That great power of yours, Indra, your skill and wisdom, the mind sharpens the desirable thunderbolt.
तव द्यौरिन्द्र पौंस्यं पृथिवी श्रवः त्वामापः पर्वतासश्च हिन्विरे
For you, Indra, the sky proclaims your manliness, the earth your fame; the waters and mountains urge you on.
त्वां विष्णुर्बृहन्क्षयो मित्रो गृणाति वरुणः त्वां शर्धो मदत्यनु मारुतम्
You are praised by Vishnu of vast abode, by Mitra, by Varuna; the host exults in you, as do the Maruts.
नमस्ते अग्न ओजसे गृणन्ति देव कृष्टयः अमैरमित्रमर्दय
To you, Agni, for strength, peoples sing praise, O god; be unconquered, destroy the foe.
कुवित्सु नो गविष्टये ऽग्ने संवेषिषो रयिम् उरुकृदुरु णस्कृधि
Will you, Agni, for our desire of cattle, seek out wealth for us—make it wide and abundant.
मा नो अग्ने महाधने परा वर्ग्भारभृद्यथा संवर्गं सं रयिं जय
Do not, Agni, in great wealth, carry us away to another's share; as you win together, so win wealth for us.
समस्य मन्यवे विशो विश्वा नमन्त कृष्टयः समुद्रायेव सिन्धवः
To the wrath of the one, all peoples bow, as rivers to the ocean.
वि चिद्वृत्रस्य दोधतः शिरो बिभेद वृष्णिना वज्रेण शतपर्वणा
He split the head of Vritra, the one who resisted, with his hundred-jointed, powerful thunderbolt.
ओजस्तदस्य तित्विष उभे यत्समवर्त्तयत् इन्द्रश्चर्मेव रोदसी
His strength and brilliance—when Indra brought together both worlds, as with a hide.
सुमन्मा वस्वी रन्ती सूनरी
Gracious, wealthy, delighting, she is the good daughter.
सरूप वृषन्ना गहीमौ भद्रौ धुर्यावभि ताविमा उप सर्पतः
Come, O mighty one, with your two beautiful, well-matched bays yoked to the pole—let them draw near.
नीव शीर्षाणि मृढ्वं मध्य आपस्य तिष्ठति शृङ्गेभिर्दशभिर्दिशन्
With lowered heads, they stand in the midst of the waters; with ten horns, they point in every direction.
आष्टम द्वितीयो ऽर्धः पन्यंपन्यमित्सोतार आ धावत मद्याय सोमं वीराय शूराय
The eighth and the second half run forth, each to its own; the pourers hasten to the Soma for the hero, the mighty one, for the intoxicating drink.
एह हरी ब्रह्मयुजा शग्मा वक्षतः सखायम् इन्द्रं गीर्भिर्गिर्वणसम्
Here, let the two bay steeds, yoked by prayer, swiftly bring Indra, the friend, the singer to be praised with hymns.
पाता वृत्रहा सुतमा घा गमन्नारे अस्मत् नि यमते शतमूतिः
The slayer of Vṛtra, rich in offerings, has drunk; come, do not restrain him from us, he who is abundant in might.
आ त्वा विशन्त्विन्दवः समुद्रमिव सिन्धवः न त्वामिन्द्राति रिच्यते
To you the drops approach, like rivers to the ocean; no one surpasses you, Indra.
विव्यक्थ महिना वृषन्भक्षं सोमस्य जागृवे य इन्द्र जठरेषु ते
You have revealed yourself in greatness, O mighty one, awake for the draught of Soma, O Indra, within your bellies.
अरं त इन्द्र कुक्षये सोमो भवतु वृत्रहन् अरं धामभ्य इन्दवः
May the Soma, O Indra, slayer of Vṛtra, be pleasant for your belly; may the drops be pleasant for your abodes.
जराबोध तद्विविड्ढि विशेविशे यज्ञियाय स्तोमं रुद्राय दृशीकम्
Awaken with age, understand this, O you who are to be praised by each clan, the hymn for the worshipful Rudra.
स नो महां अनिमानो धूमकेतुः पुरुश्चन्द्रः धिये वाजाय हिन्वतु
May that great, unshakable, smoke-bannered, forward-shining one impel us to wisdom and strength.
स रेवां इव विश्पतिर्दैव्यः केतुः शृणोतु नः उक्थैरग्निर्बृहद्भानुः
May that divine sign, lord of the people, like a benefactor, listen to us with hymns—Agni of great radiance.
तद्वो गाय सुते सचा पुरुहूताय सत्वने शं यद्गवे न शाकिने
Sing that for you at the pressing, together with the much-invoked, for strength, which is auspicious as for the cow, for the generous.
न घा वसुर्नि यमते दानं वाजस्य गोमतः यत्सीमुपश्रवद्गिरः
Indeed, the good one does not withhold the gift of wealth rich in cattle, when the songs reach him.
कुवित्सस्य प्र हि व्रजं गोमन्तं दस्युहा गमत् शचीभिरप नो वरत्
May he, the destroyer of foes, perhaps go forth to the cattle-rich enclosure; with his powers, may he not keep us away.
इदं विष्णुर्वि चक्रमे त्रेधा नि दधे पदम् समूढमस्य पांसुले
Viṣṇu has made three strides; he has set down his footstep three times, encompassing all, in the dust.
त्रीणि पदा वि चक्रमे विष्णुर्गोपा अदाभ्यः अतो धर्माणि धारयन्
Viṣṇu, the guardian, unassailable, has made three strides; from there he upholds the laws.
विष्णोः कर्माणि पश्यत यतो व्रतानि पस्पशे इन्द्रस्य युज्यः सखा
Behold the deeds of Viṣṇu, from where his sacred laws are made manifest, Indra's dear companion.
तद्विष्णोः परमं पदं सदा पश्यन्ति सूरयः दिवीव चक्षुराततम्
That highest step of Viṣṇu the wise ever behold, like an eye extended in the sky.
