उप त्वा जुह्वो मम घृताचीर्यन्तु हर्यत अग्ने हव्या जुषस्व नः
Let my ladles approach you, O Agni, with clarified butter; delight in our offerings.
मन्द्रं होतारमृत्विजं चित्रभानुं विभावसुम् अग्निमीडे स उ श्रवत्
I praise Agni, the gracious priest, the seasonal officiant, of brilliant radiance, shining forth; may he hear.
पाहि नो अग्न एकया पाह्यूत द्वितीयया पाहि गीर्भिस्तिसृभिरूर्जां पते पाहि चतसृभिर्वसो
Guard us, Agni, with one, guard with a second, guard with three songs, lord of nourishment, guard with four, O gracious one.
पाहि विश्वस्माद्रक्षसो अराव्णः प्र स्म वाजेषु नो ऽव त्वामिद्धि नेदिष्ठं देवतातय आपिं नक्षामहे वृधे
Guard us from all harm and evil; grant us success in contests. We seek you, nearest to the gods, for increase.
इनो राजन्नरतिः समिद्धो रौद्रो दक्षाय सुषुमां अदर्शि चिकिद्वि भाति भासा बृहतासिक्नीमेति रुशतीमपाजन्
When, O king, the flame is kindled, fierce for skill, splendid, it appears, wise, shining with great light, the bright one purifies the dark.
कृष्णां यदेनीमभि वर्पसाभूज्जनयन्योषां बृहतः पितुर्जाम् ऊर्ध्वं भानुं सूर्यस्य स्तभायन्दिवो वसुभिररतिर्वि भाति
When you, by your form, envelop the dark one, you generate the dawn from the great father; you uphold the sun’s radiance, and the flame shines forth with the gifts of heaven.
भद्रो भद्रया सचमान आगात्स्वसारं जारो अभ्येति पश्चात् सुप्रकेतैर्द्युभिरग्निर्वितिष्ठन्रुशद्भिर्वर्णैरभि राममस्थात्
The good one comes together with the good; the lover approaches his sister from behind; Agni stands upright with clear signs, with bright colors, and settles in delight.
कया ते अग्ने अङ्गिर ऊर्जो नपादुपस्तुतिम् वराय देव मन्यवे
By what praise, Agni Angiras, child of strength, may we honor you, O god, for your favor?
दाशेम कस्य मनसा यज्ञस्य सहसो यहो कदु वोच इदं नमः
For whom, with what intent, should we serve the sacrifice, the might, the strength? To whom should this reverence be spoken?
अधा त्वं हि नस्करो विश्वा अस्मभ्यं सुक्षितीः वाजद्रविणसो गिरः
Then you indeed make for us all prosperous dwellings, giver of strength and riches, with your songs.
अग्न आ याह्यग्निभिर्होतारं त्वा वृणीमहे आ त्वामनक्तु प्रयता हविष्मती यजिष्ठं बर्हिरासदे
Agni, come here with the fires; as Hotar we choose you. May the prepared, offering-bearing one call you; most fit for sacrifice, come sit on the sacred grass.
अच्छा हि त्वा सहसः सूनो अङ्गिरः स्रुचश्चरन्त्यध्वरे ऊर्जो नपातं घृतकेशमीमहे ऽग्निं यज्ञेषु पूर्व्यम्
To you, O son of strength, O Angiras, the ladles move at the ritual; we seek Agni, child of strength, with ghee-bright hair, the ancient one in sacrifices.
अच्छा नः शीरशोचिषं गिरो यन्तु दर्शतम् अच्छा यज्ञासो नमसा पुरूवसुं पुरुप्रशस्तमूतये
May our songs go to you, O radiant one, most beautiful; may the sacrifices with reverence go to the much-praised, much-glorious one for aid.
अग्निं सूनुं सहसो जातवेदसं दानाय वार्याणाम् द्विता यो भूदमृतो मर्त्येष्वा होता मन्द्रतमो विशि
Agni, son of strength, knower of all births, for the giving of treasures; who alone among mortals is the immortal Hotar, most delightful, most distinguished.
अदाभ्यः पुरएता विशामग्निर्मानुषीणाम् तूर्णी रथः सदा नवः
Agni, unassailable, leader of peoples, of men, swift chariot, ever new.
अभि प्रयांसि वाहसा दाश्वां अश्नोति मर्त्यः क्षयं पावकशोचिषः
With his shining flame, the worshipper, by his conveyance, reaches the dwelling; the mortal attains home, O pure-shining one.
साह्वान्विश्वा अभियुजः क्रतुर्देवानाममृक्तः अग्निस्तुविश्रवस्तमः
He who calls all rivals, the will of the gods, unwearied—Agni, most renowned.
भद्रो नो अग्निराहुतो भद्रा रातिः सुभग भद्रो अध्वरः भद्रा उत प्रशस्तयः
May Agni, when invoked, be auspicious for us; auspicious the gift, O fortunate one, auspicious the sacrifice, auspicious too the praises.
भद्रं मनः कृणुष्व वृत्रतूर्ये येना समत्सु सासहिः अव स्थिरा तनुहि भूरि वनेमा ते अभिष्टये
Make our mind auspicious for the overcoming of obstacles, with which you prevail in battles; strengthen our bodies, may we win much for your favor.
अग्ने वाजस्य गोमत ईशानः सहसो यहो अस्मे देहि जातवेदो महि श्रवः
Agni, lord of strength abounding in cattle, of power and might, grant us, O knower of all births, great renown.
स इधानो वसुष्कविरग्निरीडेन्यो गिरा रेवदस्मभ्यं पुर्वणीक दीदिहि
He who is kindled, rich in goods, Agni, worthy of praise with song, shine forth for us, O leader, with wealth.
क्षपो राजन्नुत त्मनाग्ने वस्तोरुतोषसः स तिग्मजम्भ रक्षसो दह प्रति
O king Agni, by your nature, by night and by day, and by the dawns, with your sharp jaws burn away the demons.
विशोविशो वो अतिथिं वाजयन्तः पुरुप्रियम् अग्निं वो दुर्यं वच स्तुषे शूषस्य मन्मभिः
In every house, exalting your guest, beloved by many, Agni, I praise your ancient word with my hymns of strength.
यं जनासो हविष्मन्तो मित्रं न सर्पिरासुतिम् प्रशंसन्ति प्रशस्तिभिः
Whom the people, offering oblations, praise with praises, as a friend with clarified butter.
पन्यांसं जातवेदसं यो देवतात्युद्यता हव्यान्यैरयद्दिवि
The wise knower of all births, who, surpassing the gods, bore the offerings upward to heaven.
समिद्धमग्निं समिधा गिरा गृणे शुचिं पावकं पुरो अध्वरे ध्रुवम् विप्रं होतारं पुरुवारमद्रुहं कविं सुम्नैरीमहे जातवेदसम्
The kindled Agni, with fuel, with song I praise—the pure, shining one, foremost at the sacrifice, the steadfast sage, Hotar, of many boons, sinless, poet, we seek with blessings, O knower of all births.
त्वां दूतमग्ने अमृतं युगेयुगे हव्यवाहं दधिरे पायुमीड्यम्. देवासश्च मर्त्तासश्च जागृविं विभुं विश्पतिं नमसा नि षेदिरे
You, Agni, immortal messenger, have been established in every age as the carrier of offerings, the guardian, and the one worthy of praise. Both gods and mortals, vigilant and mighty, lord of the clans, have approached you with reverence.
विभूषन्नग्न उभयां अनु व्रता दूतो देवानां रजसी समीयसे यत्ते धीतिं सुमतिमावृणीमहे ऽध स्मा नस्त्रिवरूथः शिवो भव
Adorned, Agni, you follow both sets of laws, as messenger of the gods you traverse the realms. We seek your wisdom and favor; thus, be gracious and threefold protector for us.
उप त्वा जामयो गिरो देदिशतीर्हविष्कृतः वायोरनीके अस्थिरन्
To you, the wives send their songs, directed towards you, as offerings are placed in the domain of Vayu.
यस्य त्रिधात्ववृतं बर्हिस्तस्थावसन्दिनम् आपश्चिन्नि दधा पदम्
Upon whose triple-covered sacred grass, steadfast and joined, even the waters have set their step.
