अद्य नो देव सवितः प्रजावत्सावीः सौभगम् परा दुःष्वप्न्यं सुव
Today, O divine Savitar, grant us offspring and good fortune; drive away evil dreams.
क्वास्य वृषभो युवा तुविग्रीवो अनानतः ब्रह्मा कस्तं सपर्यति
Where is his youthful, unyielding bull with mighty neck? Who, as priest, worships him?
उपह्वरे गिरीणां सङ्गमे च नदीनाम् धिया विप्रो अजायत
At the foot of the mountains, at the meeting of the rivers, the inspired sage was born through thought.
प्र सम्राजं चर्षणीनामिन्द्रं स्तोता नव्यं गीर्भिः नरं नृषाहं मंहिष्ठम्
Let us praise Indra, king of peoples, the subduer of men, the most mighty, with new songs.
द्वितीय द्वितीयो ऽर्धः अपादु शिप्रयन्धसः सुदक्षस्य प्रहोषिणः इन्द्रोरिन्द्रो यवाशिरः
The second half of the second verse is dedicated to Indra, the swift drinker of Soma, the skillful, the mighty, the barley-bearded.
इमा उ त्वा पुरुवसो ऽभि प्र नोनवुर्गिरः गावो वत्सं न धेनवः
To you, O possessor of many treasures, these songs have been sent forth, like cows to their calf, O Indra.
अत्राह गोरमन्वत नाम त्वष्टुरपीच्यम् इत्था चन्द्रमसो गृहे
Here they have followed the name of the cow, the hidden one of Tvaṣṭṛ; thus, in the house of the moon.
यदिन्द्रो अनयद्रितो महीरपो वृषन्तमः तत्र पूषाभुवत्सचा
When Indra, unhonored, led forth the great, most powerful waters, there Pūṣan became his companion.
गौर्धयति मरुतां श्रवस्युर्माता मघोनाम् युक्ता वह्नी रथानाम्
The cow, famed among the Maruts, the mother of the generous, is yoked as the fire to the chariots.
उप नो हरिभिः सुतं याहि मदानां पते उप नो हरिभिः सुतम्
Come to us with your bays, Lord of delights, come to us with your bays to the pressed Soma.
इष्टा होत्रा असृक्षतेन्द्रं वृधन्तो अध्वरे अच्छावभृथमोजसा
The desired offerings have flowed, increasing Indra at the sacrifice, with strength towards the Avabhṛtha.
अहमिद्धि पितुष्परि मेधामृतस्य जग्रह अहं सूर्य इवाजनि
Indeed, I have taken the wisdom of the immortal from my father; I was born like the sun.
रेवतीर्नः सधमाद इन्द्रे सन्तु तुविवाजाः क्षुमन्तो याभिर्मदेम
May the abundant gatherings, rich in strength, be with us in Indra; with these, full of might, may we rejoice.
सोमः पूषा च चेततुर्विश्वासां सुक्षितीनाम् देवत्रा रथ्योर्हिता
Soma and Pūṣan have perceived all prosperous dwellings; for the gods, the two chariots are prepared.
पान्तमा वो अन्धस इन्द्रमभि प्र गायत विश्वासाहं शतक्रतुं मंहिष्ठं चर्षणीनाम्
May you all sing forth to Indra for the Soma drink; I, the all-conquering, the most mighty among men, praise the hundred-powered.
प्र व इन्द्राय मादनं हर्यश्वाय गायत सखायः सोमपाव्ने
Sing, friends, to Indra, the exhilarator, the tawny-horsed, the Soma-drinker.
वयमु त्वा तदिदर्था इन्द्र त्वायन्तः सखायः कण्वा उक्थेभिर्जरन्ते
We, your friends, Kanvas, approach you, Indra, for that purpose, rejoicing with hymns.
इन्द्राय मद्वने सुतं परि ष्टोभन्तु नो गिरः अर्कमर्चन्तु कारवः
Let our songs resound around the pressed Soma for Indra, the joyous; let the poets praise with hymns.
अयं त इन्द्र सोमो निपूतो अधि बर्हिषि एहीमस्य द्रवा पिब
This Soma, purified for you, Indra, is on the sacred grass; come, drink its flowing essence.
सुरूपकृत्नुमूतये सुदुघामिव गोदुहे जुहूमसि द्यविद्यवि
For the granting of beautiful forms, we offer to you, as one milks a cow rich in milk, O ever-shining one.
अभि त्वा वृषभा सुते सुतं सृजामि पीतये तृम्पा व्यश्नुही मदम्
To you, the bull, at the pressing of Soma, I pour out the pressed drink for your enjoyment; be satisfied, partake of the delight.
य इन्द्र चमसेष्वा सोमश्चमूषु ते सुतः पिबेदस्य त्वमीशिषे
O Indra, the Soma pressed in the cups and in the vessels is yours; drink of it, for you are the lord of it.
योगेयोगे तवस्तरं वाजेवाजे हवामहे सखाय इन्द्रमूतये
In union and reunion, with strength upon strength, we call Indra, friend, for aid in the contest.
आ त्वेता नि षीदतेन्द्रमभि प्र गायत सखायः स्तोमवाहसः
Come here and be seated, Indra; let us sing forth together, O friends, with voices full of praise.
इदं ह्यन्वोजसा सुतं राधानां पते पिबा त्वास्य गिर्वणः
This pressed Soma is indeed for you, Lord of gifts; drink it, O singer, with your might.
महां इन्द्रः पुरश्च नो महित्वमस्तु वज्रिणे द्यौर्न प्रथिना शवः
May Indra, mighty, be foremost for us; may greatness belong to the wielder of the thunderbolt; may heaven not limit his power.
आ तू न इन्द्र क्षुमन्तं चित्रं ग्राभं सं गृभाय महाहस्ती दक्षिणेन
Come, Indra, grasp for us the splendid prize, rich in land, with your great right hand.
अभि प्र गोपतिं गिरेन्द्रमर्च यथा विदे सूनुं सत्यस्य सत्पतिम्
Sing forth to the lord of herds, to Indra of the mountains, as is fitting, to the son of truth, the true master.
कया नश्चित्र आ भुवदूती सदावृधः सखा कया शचिष्ठया वृता
By what wondrous means does our ever-growing friend become our messenger? By what most powerful support is he chosen?
त्यमु वः सत्रासाहं विश्वासु गीर्ष्वायतम् आ च्यावयस्यूतये
That mighty one who conquers in gatherings, offer him your songs in all assemblies, for stirring and aid.
