अ शुक्रः पवस्व देवेभ्यः सोम दिवे पृथिव्यै शं च प्रजाभ्यः
Shining Soma, purify yourself for the gods, for heaven and earth, and for the welfare of all beings.
अ दिवो धर्त्तासि शुक्रः पीयूषः सत्ये विधर्मन्वाजी पवस्व
You are the supporter of heaven, shining, nourishing, true in your ordinances; purify yourself, O Soma, as the bringer of strength.
अ प्रेष्ठं वो अतिर्थिं स्तुषे मित्रमिव प्रियम् च् अग्ने रथं न वेद्यम्
I praise you, Agni, beloved guest, dear as a friend, like a chariot to be placed on the altar.
अ कविमिव प्रशंस्यं यं देवास इति द्विता च् नि मर्त्येष्वादधुः
Like a sage worthy of praise, whom the gods have set apart among mortals.
अ त्वं यविष्ठ दाशुषो न्र्^ईंपाहि शृणुही गिरः च् रक्षा तोकमुत त्मना
O youngest one, protect your worshippers, hear our songs; guard our offspring and yourself.
अ एन्द्र नो गधि प्रिय सत्राजिदगोह्य च् गिरिर्न विश्वतः पृथुः पतिर्दिवः
O Indra, grant us a secure place, beloved, renowned for sacrifices, vast as a mountain on every side, lord of heaven.
अ अभि हि सत्य सोमपा उभे बभूथ रोदसी च् इन्द्रासि सुन्वतो वृधः पतिर्दिवः
Truly, O drinker of Soma, you have become both heaven and earth; Indra, you are the mighty lord of heaven for the one who presses Soma.
अ त्वं हि शश्वतीनामिन्द्र धर्त्ता पुरामसि च् हन्ता दस्योर्मनोर्वृधः पतिर्दिवः
You, Indra, have always been the supporter of ancient strongholds, the slayer of the Dasyu, the mighty, lord of heaven.
अ पुरां भिन्दुर्युवा कविरमितौजा अजायत च् इन्द्रो विश्वस्य कर्मणो धर्त्ता वज्री पुरुष्टुतः
Breaker of fortresses, youthful sage, of boundless strength, Indra was born as the upholder of all actions, wielder of the bolt, much praised.
अ त्वं वलस्य गोमतो ऽपावरद्रिवो बिलम् च् त्वां देवा अबिभ्युषस्तुज्यमानास आविषुः
You, O thunderer, opened the cave of Vala rich in cows; the gods, trembling, sought you for protection.
अ इन्द्रमीशानमोजसाभि स्तोमैरनूषत च् सहस्रं यस्य रातय उत वा सन्ति भूयसीः
With hymns they sought Indra, lord of might, whose gifts are a thousand, or even more abundant.
पञ्चम द्वितीयो ऽर्धः अ अक्रान्त्समुद्रः प्रथमे विधर्मं जनयन्प्रजा भुवनस्य गोपाः च् वृषा पवित्रे अधि सानो अव्ये बृहत्सोमो वावृधे स्वानो अद्रिः
He crossed the ocean, established order in the beginning, generating offspring, guardian of the world; the bull Soma, on the pure slope, grew great in the vessel, the stone resounded.
अ मत्सि वायुमिष्टये राधसे च मत्सि मित्रावरुणा पूयमानः च् मत्सि शर्धो मारुतं मत्सि देवान्मत्सि द्यावापृथिवी देव सोम
Delight in us, Vayu, for favor and gifts; delight in us, Mitra and Varuna, as we are purified; delight in us, Marut host, delight in us, gods, delight in us, heaven and earth, O god Soma.
अ महत्तत्सोमो महिषश्चकारापां यद्गर्भो ऽवृणीत देवान् च् अदधादिन्द्रे पवमान ओजो ऽजनयत्सूर्ये ज्योतिरिन्दुः
That great Soma, the mighty one, when he chose the gods as the embryo of waters, bestowed strength on Indra, O flowing one, and generated light in the sun.
अ एष देवो अमर्त्यः पर्णवीरिव दीयते च् अभि द्रोणान्यासदम्
This immortal god is poured forth like a spreading branch, settling into the vessels.
अ एष विप्रैरभिष्टुतो ऽपो देवो वि गाहते च् दधद्रत्नानि दाशुषे
Praised by sages, this god enters the waters, bestowing treasures upon the worshipper.
अ एष विश्वानि वार्या शूरो यन्निव सत्वभिः च् पवमानः सिषासति
This strong one, Pavamana, seeks all desirable things, as a hero with his powers.
अ एष देवो रथर्यति पवमानो दिशस्यति च् आविष्कृणोति वग्वनुम्
This god, Pavamana, rides the chariot, rushes forth, reveals the voice and the sound.
अ एष देवो विपन्युभिः पवमान ऋतायुभिः च् हरिर्वाजाय मृज्यते
This god, purified by the wise and by those who keep the order, the tawny one, is cleansed for the prize.
अ एष देवो विपा कृतो ऽति ह्वरांसि धावति च् पवमानो अदाभ्यः
This god, made pure, surpasses the obstacles; Pavamana is invincible.
अ एष दिवं वि धावति तिरो रजांसि धारया च् पवमानः कनिक्रदत्
This one rushes across the sky, through the spaces of dust, with his stream, the resounding, purifying one.
अ एष दिवं व्यासरत्तिरो रजांस्यस्पृतः च् पवमानः स्वध्वरः
This one has spread out the sky, untouched, through the spaces of dust; the self-lawful, purifying one.
अ एष प्रत्नेन जन्मना देवो देवेभ्यः सुतः च् हरिः पवित्रे अर्षति
This one, with ancient birth, the god pressed for the gods, the tawny one, flows through the purifier.
अ एष उ स्य पुरुव्रतो जज्ञानो जनयन्निषः च् धारया पवते सुतः
This one, of many rites, being born, generates lights; pressed, he flows with his stream.
अ एष धिया यात्यण्व्य शूरो रथेभिराशुभिः च् गच्छन्निन्द्रस्य निष्कृतम्
This one goes with thought, subtle, a hero with swift chariots, approaching Indra’s dwelling.
अ एष पुरू धियायते बृहते देवतातये च् यत्रामृतास आशत
This one is invoked by many with thought for the great divine rite, where the immortals have sat.
अ एतं मृजन्ति मर्ज्यमुप द्रोणेष्वायवः च् प्रचक्राणं महीरिषः
This one, to be cleansed, is purified by the press-stones in the vessels, spreading abundant riches.
अ एष हितो वि नीयते ऽन्तः शुन्ध्यावता पथा च् यदी तुञ्जन्ति भूर्णयः
This one, set in place, is led forth along the path of purification, when the rollers urge him on.
अ एष रुक्मिभिरीयते वाजि शुभ्रेभिरंशुभिः च् पतिः सिन्धूनां भवन्
This one advances with golden beams, a steed with shining streams, becoming the lord of rivers.
अ एष शृङ्गाणि दोधुवच्छिशीते यूथ्यो वृषा च् नृम्णा दधान ओजसा
This one shakes his horns, the youthful bull of the herd, bearing manly strength and vigor.
