अ अभि व्रतानि पवते पुनानो देवो देवान्त्स्वेन रसेन पृञ्चन् च् इन्दुर्धर्माण्यृतुथा वसानो दश क्षिपो अव्यत सानो अव्ये
Purifying himself, the god flows with vows, filling the gods with his own essence; the invigorating one, clad in truth, upholds the laws, ten fingers guard him on the unshaken summit.
अ आ ते अग्न इधीमहि द्युमन्तं देवाजरम् च् युद्ध स्या ते पनीयसी समिद्दीदयति द्यवीषं स्तोतृभ्य आ भर
To you, O Agni, we kindle the undying, radiant god; may your most glorious battle shine forth, when kindled, bring us the heavenly portion for the singers.
अ आ ते अग्न ऋचा हविः शुक्रस्य ज्योतिषस्पते च् सुश्चन्द्र दस्म विश्पते हव्यवाट्तुभ्यं हूयत इषं स्तोतृभ्य आ भर
To you, O Agni, with a hymn and an offering, O lord of shining light; O bright, wondrous, lord of the people, carrier of offerings, we call to you; bring nourishment for the singers.
अ ओभे सुश्चन्द्र विश्पते दर्वी श्रीणीष आसनि च् उतो न उत्पुपूर्या उक्थेषु शवसस्पत इषं स्तोतृभ्य आ भर
Both ladles, O bright lord of the people, have been filled for you; and may you be satisfied by our hymns, O lord of might; bring nourishment for the singers.
अ इन्द्राय साम गायत विप्राय बृहते बृहत् च् ब्रह्माकृते विपश्चिते पनस्यवे
Sing the Sāman for Indra, for the inspired, the great, the mighty; for the creator of prayer, the wise, the praiseworthy.
अ त्वमिन्द्राभिभूरसि त्वं सूर्यमरोचयः च् विश्वकर्मा विश्वदेवो महां असि
You, Indra, are all-conquering; you made the sun shine; you are the universal maker, the universal god, the great one.
अ विभ्राजं ज्योतिषा त्वरगच्छो रोचनं दिवः च् देवास्त इन्द्र सख्याय येमिरे
Shining forth with radiance, you swiftly go to the realm of light, O gods; and you, Indra, have entered into friendship.
अ असावि सोम इन्द्र ते शविष्ठ धृष्णवा गहि च् आ त्वा पृणक्त्विन्द्रियं रजः सूर्यो न रश्मिभिः
Soma has been pressed for you, Indra, most mighty; come with strength. May your power be filled, as the sun fills the sky with its rays.
अ आ तिष्ठ वृत्रहन्रथं युक्ता ते ब्रह्मणा हरी च् अर्वाचीनं सु ते मनो ग्रावा कृणोतु वग्नुना
Stand upon your chariot, O slayer of Vṛtra, your two bays yoked by prayer. May the stone, with its fire, make your mind incline towards us.
अ इन्द्रमिद्धरी वहतो ऽप्रतिधृष्टशवसम् च् ऋषीणां सुष्टुतीरुप यज्ञं च मानुषाणाम्
Indra’s two bays carry him, whose might none can withstand, to the well-praised songs of the seers and the sacrifices of men.
चतुर्थ प्रथमो ऽर्धः अ ज्योतिर्यज्ञस्य पवते मधु प्रियं पिता देवानां जनिता विभूवसुः च् दधाति रत्नं स्वधयोरपीच्यं मदिन्तमो मत्सर इन्द्रियो रसः
The radiant one, delight of the sacrifice, beloved, sweet, flows forth—the father of the gods, the creator of riches. He bestows a treasure, worthy of praise, most gladdening, the exhilarating, powerful essence.
अ अभिक्रन्दन्कलशं वाज्यर्षति पतिर्दिवः शतधारो विचक्षणः च् हरिर्मित्रस्य सदनेषु सीदति मर्मृजानो ऽविभिः सिन्धुभिर्वृषा
Resounding, the vigorous one rushes to the vessel, the lord of heaven, a hundred-streamed, discerning. The tawny one sits in the dwellings of Mitra, purified by the rivers, a bull with the streams.
अ अग्रे सिन्धूनां पवमानो अर्षत्यग्रे वाचो अग्रियो गोषु गच्छसि च् अग्रे वाजस्य भजसे महद्धनं स्वायुधः सोतृभिः सोम सूयसे
Foremost among the rivers, the purified one rushes forth; foremost in speech, you go among the cows. Foremost in strength, you win great wealth, well-armed, Soma, with those who press you.
अ असृक्षत प्र वाजिनो गव्या सोमासो अश्वया च् शुक्रासो वीरयाशवः
The swift, strong, bull-like Somas have flowed forth for wealth in cattle, for horses, shining, with heroic vigor.
अ शुम्भमानो ऋतायुभिर्मृज्यमाना गभस्त्योः र्म् च् पवन्ते वारे अव्यये
Shining, purified by the hands of those who live by truth, cleansed between the two hands, they flow on in the unchanging channel.
अ ते विश्वा दाशुषे वसु सोमा दिव्यानि पार्थिवा च् पवन्तामान्तरिक्ष्या
May all the divine and earthly treasures, O Somas, flow for the worshipper; may those of the midspace also flow.
अ पवस्व देववीरति पवित्रं सोम रंह्या च् इन्द्रमिन्दो वृषा विश
Purify yourself, O Soma, with divine power, in the filter, O delightful one; enter, O mighty drop, into Indra’s hosts.
अ आ वच्यस्व महि प्सरो वृषेन्दो द्युम्नवत्तमः च् आ योनिं धर्णसिः सदः
Speak forth, O mighty, abundant, bull Soma, most glorious; enter your appointed place, your seat.
अ अधुक्षत प्रियं मधु धारा सुतस्य वेधसः च् अपो वसिष्ट सुक्रतुः
The dear sweet juice has been milked, the streams of the pressed, inspired one; the waters, O wise one, flow for you.
अ महान्तं त्वा महीरन्वापो अर्षन्ति सिन्धवः च् यद्गोभिर्वासयिष्यसे
The great rivers flow towards you, the great one, O Soma, when you are clothed with cows.
अ समुद्रो अप्सु मामृजे विष्टम्भो धरुणो दिवः च् सोमः पवित्रे अस्मयुः
The ocean is cleansed in the waters, the support, the foundation of heaven; Soma, purified, is ever youthful.
अ अचिक्रदद्वृषा हरिर्महान्मित्रो न दर्शतः च् सं सूर्येण दिद्युते
The mighty, tawny one has bellowed, great, like the wondrous Mitra; he shines together with the sun.
अ गिरस्त इन्द ओजसा मर्मृज्यन्ते अपस्युवः च् याभिर्मदाय शुम्भसे
O Indra, the songs are cleansed by your strength, O far-seeing one, with which you adorn yourself for exhilaration.
अ तं त्वा मदाय घृष्वय उ लोककृत्नुमीमहे च् तव प्रशस्तये महे
For your exhilaration, we seek you, the swift one, the maker of worlds; for your great praise.
अ गोषा इन्दो नृषा अस्यश्वसा वाजसा उत च् आत्मा यज्ञस्य पूर्व्यः
O Indu, you are the delight of cows, of men, of horses, and of strength; and you are also the ancient spirit of sacrifice.
अ अस्मभ्यमिन्दविन्द्रियं मधोः पवस्व धारया च् पर्जन्यो वृष्टिमां इव
O Indu, pour forth your invigorating power for us, flow with sweetness, like a rain-bringing cloud.
अ सना च सोम जेषि च पवमान महि श्रवः च् अथा नो वस्यसस्कृधि
Ever victorious, O Soma, and triumphant, purified one, grant us great renown, and then bestow prosperity upon us.
अ सना ज्योतिः सना स्वार्विश्वा च सोम सौभगा च् अथा नो वस्यसस्कृधि
Everlasting light, everlasting radiance, and all good fortunes, O Soma, and then bestow prosperity upon us.
अ सना दक्षमुत क्रतुमप सोम मृधो जहि च् अथा नो वस्यसस्कृधि
Everlasting skill and wisdom, O Soma, drive away our foes, and then bestow prosperity upon us.
अ पवीतारः पुनीतन सोममिन्द्राय पातवे च् अथा नो वस्यसस्कृधि
Let the purifiers cleanse Soma for Indra to drink, and then bestow prosperity upon us.
