अ युवं हि स्थः स्वःपती इन्द्रश्च सोम गोपती च् ईशाना पिप्यतं धियः
For you two are the lords of good things—Indra and Soma, the guardians of cattle; as rulers, make our prayers fruitful.
अ इन्द्रो मदाय वावृधे शवसे वृत्रहा नृभिः च् तमिन्महत्स्वाजिषूतिमर्भे हवामहे स वाजेषु प्र नो ऽविषत्
Indra grew strong for exhilaration, for might, the slayer of Vṛtra, with men; we call upon him in great battles—may he grant us success in contests.
अ असि हि वीर सेन्यो ऽसि भूरि पराददिः च् असि दभ्रस्य चिद्वृधो यजमानाय शिक्षसि सुन्वते भूरि ते वसु
You are, indeed, a heroic leader; you give abundantly; you are generous even to the humble; you grant wealth to the worshipper who presses Soma.
अ यदुदीरत आजयो धृष्णवे धीयते धनाम् च् युङ्क्ष्वा मदच्युता हरी कं हनः कं वसौ दधो ऽस्मां इन्द्र वसौ दधः
When the warriors are roused for battle, when the prize is set for the bold, harness your exhilaration-yielding steeds; whom will you strike, whom will you enrich? O Indra, enrich us.
अ स्वादोरित्था विषूवतो मध्वः पिबन्ति गौर्यः च् या इन्द्रेण सयावरीर्वृष्णा मदन्ति शोभसे वस्वीरनु स्वराज्यम्
The cows drink the sweet, overflowing honey; those who, together with Indra, the mighty, rejoice in strength, shine forth, possessing wealth, following the sovereignty of the sun.
अ ता अस्य पृशनायुवः सोमं श्रीणन्ति पृश्नयः च् प्रिया इन्द्रस्य धेनवो वज्रं हिन्वन्ति सायकं वस्वीरनु स्वराज्यम्
Those spotted ones, the cows, press the Soma for him; dear to Indra, the cows prepare the thunderbolt and arrow, possessing wealth, following the sovereignty of the sun.
अ ता अस्य नमसा सहः सपर्यन्ति प्रचेतसः च् व्रतान्यस्य सश्चिरे पुरूणि पूर्वचित्तये वस्वीरनु स्वराज्यम्
Those wise ones, with reverence, serve his might; his many ancient rites they perform for his pleasure, possessing wealth, following the sovereignty of the sun.
अ असाव्यंशुर्मदायाप्सु दक्षो गिरिष्ठाः च् श्येनो न योनिमासदत्
That Soma, pressed for exhilaration, with skill in the waters, mountain-dwelling, like an eagle, has settled in its place.
अ शुभ्रमन्धो देववातमप्सु धौतं नृभिः सुतम् च् स्वदन्ति गावः पयोभिः
The pure one, blind to blemish, driven by the gods' wind, washed in the waters, pressed by men, the cows sweeten him with their milk.
अ आदीमश्वं न हेतारमशूशुभन्नमृताय च् मधो रसं सधमादे
Like a horse at the yoke, they have adorned him, the juice of sweetness for immortality, in the gathering.
अ अभि द्युभ्नं बृहद्यश इषस्पते दीदिहि देव देवयुम् च् वि कोशं मध्यमं युव
Shine forth, O Lord of strength, possessing great fame, O god, inspirer of worship, open the middle vessel.
अ आ वच्यस्व सुदक्ष चम्वोः सुतो विशां वह्निर्न विश्पतिः च् वृष्टिं दिवः पवस्व रीतिमपो जिन्वन्गविष्टये धियः
Speak forth, O skillful one, the pressed juice of the vessel, like fire among the people, O lord of the clan; flow, O Soma, rain from heaven, bring forth the stream for the winning of cows, for insight.
अ प्राणा शिशुर्महीनां हिन्वन्नृतस्य दीधितिम् च् विश्वा परि प्रिया भुवदध द्विता
The child of the great ones breathes forth, stirring the brightness of truth; he becomes beloved of all, holding them together without division.
अ उप त्रितस्य पाष्योरभक्त यद्गुहा पदम् च् यज्ञस्य सप्त धामभिरध प्रियम्
To the stone of Trita you have approached, when you found the hidden place; with the seven abodes of the sacrifice, you have reached the beloved.
अ त्रीणि त्रितस्य धारया पृष्टेष्वैरयद्रयिम् च् मिमीते अस्य योजना वि सुक्रतुः
With the three supports of Trita, you have moved on the backs, you have measured the course; his yokes are well-contrived.
अ पवस्व वाजसातये पवित्रे धारया सुतः च् इन्द्राय सोम विष्णवे देवेभ्यो मधुमत्तरः
Flow for the gaining of strength, purified by the filter, pressed out; Soma, sweeter with honey, for Indra, for Vishnu, for the gods.
अ त्वां रिहन्ति धीतयो हरिं पवित्रे अद्रुहः च् वत्सं जातं न मातरः पवमान विधर्मणि
You are cleansed by the thoughts, O tawny one, in the filter, without deceit; like mothers with a newborn calf, O purified one, in your course.
अ त्वं द्यां च महिव्रत पृथिवीं चाति जभ्रिषे च् प्रति द्रापिममुञ्चथाः पवमान महित्वना
You have embraced both heaven and earth with your great power; you have released the covering, O purified one, by your greatness.
अ इन्दुर्वाजी पवते गोन्योघा इन्द्रे सोमः सह इन्वन्मदाय च् हन्ति रक्षो बाधते पर्यरातिं वरिवस्कृण्वन्वृजनस्य राजा
The invigorating drop flows, rich in strength, abundant for the cows; Soma for Indra, seeking might, for exhilaration; he strikes down the demon, drives away hostility, making a wide path, king of the people.
अ अध धारया मध्वा पृचानस्तिरो रोम पवते अद्रिदुग्धः च् इन्दुरिन्द्रस्य सख्यं जुषाणो देवो देवस्य मत्सरो मदाय
Then, mingled with honey, strained through the filter, the drop flows, milked from the stone; the invigorating one, delighting in Indra's friendship, the god for the god, stirs for exhilaration.
अ अभि व्रतानि पवते पुनानो देवो देवान्त्स्वेन रसेन पृञ्चन् च् इन्दुर्धर्माण्यृतुथा वसानो दश क्षिपो अव्यत सानो अव्ये
Purifying himself, the god flows with vows, filling the gods with his own essence; the invigorating one, clad in truth, upholds the laws, ten fingers guard him on the unshaken summit.
अ आ ते अग्न इधीमहि द्युमन्तं देवाजरम् च् युद्ध स्या ते पनीयसी समिद्दीदयति द्यवीषं स्तोतृभ्य आ भर
To you, O Agni, we kindle the undying, radiant god; may your most glorious battle shine forth, when kindled, bring us the heavenly portion for the singers.
अ आ ते अग्न ऋचा हविः शुक्रस्य ज्योतिषस्पते च् सुश्चन्द्र दस्म विश्पते हव्यवाट्तुभ्यं हूयत इषं स्तोतृभ्य आ भर
To you, O Agni, with a hymn and an offering, O lord of shining light; O bright, wondrous, lord of the people, carrier of offerings, we call to you; bring nourishment for the singers.
अ ओभे सुश्चन्द्र विश्पते दर्वी श्रीणीष आसनि च् उतो न उत्पुपूर्या उक्थेषु शवसस्पत इषं स्तोतृभ्य आ भर
Both ladles, O bright lord of the people, have been filled for you; and may you be satisfied by our hymns, O lord of might; bring nourishment for the singers.
अ इन्द्राय साम गायत विप्राय बृहते बृहत् च् ब्रह्माकृते विपश्चिते पनस्यवे
Sing the Sāman for Indra, for the inspired, the great, the mighty; for the creator of prayer, the wise, the praiseworthy.
अ त्वमिन्द्राभिभूरसि त्वं सूर्यमरोचयः च् विश्वकर्मा विश्वदेवो महां असि
You, Indra, are all-conquering; you made the sun shine; you are the universal maker, the universal god, the great one.
अ विभ्राजं ज्योतिषा त्वरगच्छो रोचनं दिवः च् देवास्त इन्द्र सख्याय येमिरे
Shining forth with radiance, you swiftly go to the realm of light, O gods; and you, Indra, have entered into friendship.
अ असावि सोम इन्द्र ते शविष्ठ धृष्णवा गहि च् आ त्वा पृणक्त्विन्द्रियं रजः सूर्यो न रश्मिभिः
Soma has been pressed for you, Indra, most mighty; come with strength. May your power be filled, as the sun fills the sky with its rays.
अ आ तिष्ठ वृत्रहन्रथं युक्ता ते ब्रह्मणा हरी च् अर्वाचीनं सु ते मनो ग्रावा कृणोतु वग्नुना
Stand upon your chariot, O slayer of Vṛtra, your two bays yoked by prayer. May the stone, with its fire, make your mind incline towards us.
अ इन्द्रमिद्धरी वहतो ऽप्रतिधृष्टशवसम् च् ऋषीणां सुष्टुतीरुप यज्ञं च मानुषाणाम्
Indra’s two bays carry him, whose might none can withstand, to the well-praised songs of the seers and the sacrifices of men.
