With the sacred act of purification, the treasures are made pure, and mighty Indra is invoked to flow forth in the streaming Soma. Even the breaker, swift as the wind, and the wise Purumedhas, establish the man in his place. The great Soma, the mighty one, becomes the seed of the waters, chooses the gods, and places strength within Indra. As Soma is purified, he generates the light that shines in the sun, O Moon. Released with the swiftness of a chariot in battle, Soma is set free by thought and the first inspiration. Ten sisters, with pure waters, cleanse the fire upon the summit, in the sacred abode. The waves of the waters, swift-flowing and guided by thought, move toward Soma in reverence. They come together and enter the radiant one, the shining Soma. To you, O pressers, the sixth and the second half of the offering are given, for the joy of the pressed Soma. Friends, drive away the long-tongued dog from the sacrifice. This Soma, Pūṣan, the bringer of wealth and fortune, flows forth as he is purified, lord of all existence, revealing both heaven and earth. The pressed Somas, rich in sweetness, delight Indra. Purified, they flow, O gods, may your exhilarations reach you. These Somas, flawless and self-sustaining, bestow upon us paths and knowledge, ever friendly, knowing the light. Pour out for us, O Soma, the most prize-winning wealth—desired by hundreds, bearing thousands, shining with great splendor. They approach us, harmless and gentle, desiring what is dear to Indra, like mothers caressing their newborn calf. For the eager and powerful one, the bow is stretched in heroism; the bright ones go forth for the lord, the mighty, at the forefront, O youthful ones. They purify the tawny, swift one with water, who, with all the gods, goes forth in exhilaration. The mortal who presses Soma utters sacred words, driving away the dog of evil deeds, as the Bhṛgus did at the ancient sacrifice. The beloved, swift-flowing Soma is purified, bearing many names; upon him, the sun’s greatness rests, and he ascends the broad chariot, seeing all. Let the unurged drops flow for us; may the splendid ones, the swift horses, be great among the gods. Even those who do not partake, the desires and adversaries, let them be ours, let our thoughts be fulfilled. In the vessel, the sweet Soma resounds, Indra’s thunderbolt, most splendid of forms. The well-milked cows pour forth ghee, and the streams flow with milk. The Moon has gone forth, O Indra, to your abode; a friend whose song never diminishes. Like a young man among maidens, Soma strives in the vessel, with a hundredfold strength along his path. The supporter of heaven, the skillful juice, is purified; the wise one, praised by gods and men, the tawny Soma, releases his strength like a horse in the rivers. The bull among thoughts, discerning Soma, is purified; surpassing the days, he awakens the dawns. He gives breath to heaven, rivers, and vessels, and enters Indra’s heart with the inspired. For him, three times seven cows have yielded their milk; he is the true, immortal one in the highest heaven. Four other worlds he has set apart and made beautiful. O Soma, well-pressed for Indra, flow forth; be a remover of affliction, bringing protection. Let not your essence delight the two-faced, but let the generous drops be present here. The tawny Soma, the bull, is pressed for the two bay steeds; like a mighty king, he bellows over the cows. Purified, he seeks the unaging path, like an eagle settling in the butter-rich womb. To the god, the honeyed drops have flowed like cows to their calf, like milch cows to the altar; those who dwell on the sacred grass, full of speech, with their streams have reached the uncovered one. They adorn and brighten, join together, stir up the will, and unite with the generous. At the river’s outflow, the golden-hoofed seize the swift one leaping, the beast in the waters. Your filter is spread out, O Lord of Prayer; you, the mighty, encompass all bodies everywhere. Like one whose body is unheated, no harm touches him; those who have strained, bearing, reach that together. To Indra, these pressed ones go, strong steeds; the drops, born for hearing, knowing the light. Awake, O Soma, flow forth for Indra; bring radiant strength, bring the light-bringer. Friends, sit down for the purified one, sing forth; surround the child with sacrifices for adornment. Sing to him, purified for your exhilaration, friends; delight the child with offerings and praises. The child, breathing forth for the great ones, impels the light of truth; he encompasses all beloved things, holding them in duality. Purify yourself, O Soma, with streams and strength, for the divine assembly; come to the vessel, honeyed Soma, to our seat. Soma, purified, rushes with his wave, breaking through the barrier; at the forefront of speech, the roaring one bellows. For the purified, skillful Soma, words are spoken; he delights in the offerings, accepting them with thoughtful joy, like a wage. O Soma, pressed, bring us wealth with cattle, with horses, with skill and riches; place the pure color among the cows. For us, the singers have invoked you, the giver of wealth; with cows we will clothe you in color. The golden one, beloved of the bays, is purified; he delights in lovely things. Come to the singers, bring heroic fame. The purified Soma, flowing around the vessel, pours forth honeyed sweetness; the songs of the seers resound around it, seven in number. Flow forth, Soma, most sweet and wise, for Indra; let the mightiest, most glorious exhilaration be yours. Shine forth, O lord of nourishment, with great glory and fame, O god who delights the gods; direct the middle vessel, youthful one, toward us. Pour out, O pressers, the praise like a swift horse, abundant and far-reaching, surging through the vast expanse like a river released from the forest.
