As the powerful, eager cows rush forth, so too do the swift streams of Soma surge, striking away the darkness and impurity. Soma, the wise and exhilarating one, flows onward, dispelling hostilities and repelling those who lack devotion to the gods. He pours forth with the very stream that once made the sun shine, setting the waters of humanity in motion. Soma, who aided Indra in slaying Vṛtra and releasing the mighty waters, now flows forth again. With his stream, he circles around, bringing delight to those who press him, offering the ninefold draughts. Around the radiant and wealth-bringing Bharadvāja, Soma flows, his juice resounding through the filter. The mighty, roaring, tawny Soma bellows, wondrous and great, shining together with Mitra and the sun. To this bringer of joy, people choose fire, wisdom, and protection, seeking him as a guardian desired by many. The Adhvaryu priest leads the pressed Soma with stones through the filter, purifying him for Indra’s drink. The exhilarating stream of Soma rushes forth, surging with delight. Soma, flow for us a thousandfold wealth and heroic power, establishing our fame with your stream. The ancient paths are traversed anew, and with their radiance, they produce the sun. Soma, most radiant, resounds through the vessels, settling in the two seats, in the wombs. Mighty and steadfast, Soma upholds the mighty laws. Flow forth, Soma, for strength, purified by the wise; come with your shining rays to the cows. With a delightful stream, Soma flows forth as a bull, worthy of the gods, ever youthful and unassailable. The pressing stone, with this good deed, makes Soma fit for the hero. Pavamana, set in motion, stirs himself, seeking the great, primeval place as he flows. Indu, flow for us, bearing the wave, never failing, approaching the gods with swift purpose. Soma flows, driving away foes and repelling the hostile, reaching Indra’s chosen place. Purifying with his stream, clothed in waters, Soma sits in the seat of truth, the treasure-holding womb, golden and divine. All around, the pressed Soma pours forth, holding the highest offering. Within the waters, the noble one presses out Soma with the stones. Resounding, Soma passes through barriers unharmed, like a man in a city, taking his seat in the woods. For divine favor, Soma approaches the honey-flowing vessel, like a river swelling with waves, ever awake and exhilarating with the juice of the stalk. With the pressers and swift ones, Soma comes forth, moving with a delightful stream, like a horse adorned with golden trappings. Day by day, friendship with Soma is sought; surrounded by many, the tawny one is called upon for protection from encircling foes. Purified in the ocean by good hands, Soma awakens speech and flows with abundant, variegated, much-desired wealth. The pressed Somas, swift and wise, pour forth intoxicating delight upon the expanse of the ocean. Purifying and ever awake, Soma is dear, surrounded by coverings, now a sage, most Angirasa-like, preparing the sacrifice with sweetness. For Indra, Soma’s exhilaration flows, pressed for the Maruts, with a thousand streams, surpassing all, cleansed by the swift ones. Soma, bestower of strength, flows for all desirable things; he is the ocean, the first foundation for the gods, the exhilarating one. The Pavamana Somas flow through the filter with their stream, powerful and wise, accompanied by the Maruts, moving with strength and wisdom. Swiftly, Soma circles the vessel, sits down, purified with men, approaching the prize. Like those grooming a swift horse, Soma is led to the sacred grass with reins. Proclaiming wisdom like Ushanas, Soma reveals the origins of the gods. The great-vowed, pure-banded, blazing one, like a boar, comes forth resounding with his steps. He stirs three voices: fire advances, inspiration of truth awakens, and the priest’s thought is kindled. The cows, seeking their lord, approach him; eager thoughts go to Soma. His swift streams, golden and purified, mingle with the gods. The pressed juice circles the filter, resounding like a measured house, the Hotar with cattle. Soma, now purified, is the creator of thoughts, heaven, earth, Agni, the sun, Indra, and also Vishnu. The voices call upon the mighty, threefold, youthful, swift-flowing Soma. Clothed in the woods, like Varuna among rivers, he bestows treasures and grants riches. Having crossed the ocean, Soma establishes the first law, generates offspring, and protects beings. On the filter, on the unshaken summit, the great Soma grows, the stone resounds. The tawny Soma advances, released and purified, settling in the womb of the waters. When pressed by men, he makes a clear path, and with his own powers, he generates thought.
