As the sacred drop enters the filter, alive with consciousness and beloved by poets, it sends forth thoughts as a charioteer guides his horse. The swift Somas, eager for heroism, flow forth—bright, strong, and victorious, winning cattle and horses alike. Flow, O divine Soma, for the gift of long life; let your exhilarating essence reach mighty Indra and ascend to Vāyu along the righteous path. Purified, Soma generates the wondrous heavens, thundering with the great universal light. The resounding drops stream forth for exhilaration, radiant and sweet-voiced, pouring their splendor in a continuous flow. The sage, having taken his place, sends forth waves of the river, bearing the poet and holding fast, desiring much. The gods seek the Soma, born at dawn, purified by the cows, filtered and adorned, the first portion of the sixth pressing. Purifying himself, the wise Soma advances beyond all hostilities; the inspired sage is glorified in hymns. The pressed Soma enters the vessel, flowing with all glories, offered to Indra with devotion. Like a charioteer, Soma is set in motion within the filter of the pressing stones, advancing swiftly like a noble steed. Just as powerful cows rush forth, so do the swift streams surge, striking away the black skin. Soma, wise and exhilarating, flows, driving away hostilities and repelling those not devoted to the gods. Flow forth with that stream by which you made the sun shine and set human waters in motion. Flow, you who aided Indra in slaying Vṛtra and releasing the mighty waters. With this stream, Soma, circle around, delighting in the pressings and bringing the ninefold draughts. Flow around radiant, wealth-bringing Bharadvāja with your juice, O resounding one, through the filter. The mighty, roaring, tawny Soma bellows, wondrous and great like Mitra, shining together with the sun. To you, bringer of joy, we choose fire, wisdom, and protection, O guardian sought by many. O Adhvaryu, lead the pressed Soma with the stones through the filter; purify it for Indra to drink. The exhilarating stream of pressed Soma rushes forth, surging with delight. O Soma, flow for us a thousandfold wealth and heroic power; establish our fame with your stream. The ancient paths are traversed anew, producing the sun with their radiance. Flow, Soma, most radiant, resounding through the vessels; settle in the two seats, in the wombs. Mighty and radiant, Soma, god of steadfast vow, upholds the mighty laws. Flow forth with your stream for strength, purified by the wise; O Indu, come with shining rays, come to the cows. With a delightful stream, Soma flows forth as a bull, worthy of the gods, unassailable, ever youthful, clothed in coverings. Through this good deed, Soma, the pressing stone has made you fit for the hero. This Pavamana, set in motion, stirs himself—flowing, he seeks the great, primeval place. O Indu, for us, flow forth for greatness; you bear the wave, never failing, approaching the gods, swift one. Soma flows, driving away foes and repelling the hostile, going to Indra’s chosen place. Purifying, Soma flows with his stream, clothed in waters; he sits in the seat of truth, the treasure-holding womb, divine and golden. Pour all around the pressed Soma, who holds the highest offering; the noble one presses out Soma within the waters with the stones. O resounding Soma, with the stones, you pass through barriers unharmed; like a man in a city, the bright one takes his seat in the woods. For divine favor, Soma swells like a river with waves, with exhilarating juice from the stalk, ever awake, approaching the honey-flowing vessel. Soma, resounding, with the pressers and swift ones, comes forth; like a horse with golden trappings, he moves with a delightful stream. O Soma, I have sought your friendship, O Indu, day by day; many surround me—protect me from the encircling foe, come to me. Purified with good hands in the ocean, Soma awakens speech; he flows with abundant, variegated, much-desired wealth, O Pavamana. The pressed Somas, swift ones, flow for intoxicating delight; on the expanse of the ocean, the wise and eager pour forth the exhilarating Soma. Purifying, ever awake, Soma is dear and surrounded by coverings; he has become a sage, most Angirasa-like, preparing the sacrifice with sweetness. For Indra, the exhilaration flows—Soma pressed for the Maruts, with a thousand streams, surpassing all. The swift ones cleanse him, and so, Soma’s sacred journey continues, ever radiant, ever purifying, blessing gods and men alike.
