The beautiful drop of Soma, radiant and pure, entered the sacred filter, ready to bring exhilaration. It settled in the lap of the waters, like a sage in contemplation, prepared as an offering for Bhaga, the bestower of fortune. We, the worshipers, rejoice in you, Soma—pressed and flowing for our delight and for the great sovereignty. O swift-moving one, you surge forward, carrying strength with you. Who, revealed and manifest, is the mortal or the self-driven one who stands close to Rudra? We wonder at such proximity to the mighty. Agni, with reverent praises, we seek today to attain that swift and noble horse, the very essence of power that touches our hearts, by your gracious favor. The heroes now stand revealed; we have reached the long-sought prize—the strength of the strong, the might of god Savitar. May the swift ones among us win the heavenly realm. Soma, flow on in your glory—ever-pure, mighty, ever-renewed—following the ancient path of the righteous. From every direction, from all sides, bring to us that most powerful one whom we invoke, for the second half is the fifth, the completion of the cycle. Here stands the priest, the officiant, whom I praise as Indra, famed and renowned. Exalting Indra with the priestly power, the worshipers would vanquish their foes. Tvaṣṭṛ, the divine fashioner, crafted the chariot for the horse and forged the shining thunderbolt for you, O Indra, much-invoked. His steps are happy, his gifts generous; he never violates desire nor harms the wealth of the wealthy. The cows remain ever pure, always yielding, and the gods are ever faultless. Come, O herds, from the forest, together with the cows; let them approach the sacred path, their udders full. Dwelling in sweetness, may we prosper in wealth and gain insight, O Indra. The Maruts lift their voices in praise of the Sun, while Indra, ever youthful and renowned, is exalted among the gods. Sing now a song for Indra, the slayer of Vṛtra, the inspired one whom you delight in. Agni, unceasing and wise, bearer of offerings, rides in a splendid chariot. Agni, you are our closest protector, auspicious and sheltering. Bhaga, the splendid, like Agni, bestows the treasures of the great. Proclaim everywhere, whether in the front or amidst the assembly; come here now. Dawn, most beloved of sisters, sets the path in motion, beautifully born and radiant. For whom do these worlds exist? For Indra and all the gods. Let the gifts flow to you, Indra, as streams follow their course. With your favor, may we attain the prize established by the gods; may we rejoice, strong with a hundred powers, blessed with noble heroes. Mitra and Varuna pour forth nourishment; grant us rich food, O Indra. Indra reigns supreme over all. In the Trikadruka sacrifice, the mighty one, eager and powerful, drank the barley-mixed soma with Vishnu, delighting in the sacred drink to perform a great deed. The god accompanied the god, the true drop joined true Indra. This one—of a thousand measures, wise in vision and thought, radiant and upholder of order—gathers the dawns, those pure and resolute, in their rightful place, seeking the lost cow. Indra, come to us from afar, as lord of the assembly; as king and true lord, we call you, eager for gifts at the pressings, like sons calling their father for the greatest prize. I call to Indra, the generous and mighty, who holds all together, unconquered and famed. May he turn towards us for wealth, may the wielder of the thunderbolt make all our paths auspicious. Let there be hearing; let us place Agni at the forefront in our thoughts, and choose that divine strength—Indra and Vayu—when they join the new navel of the radiant one. Then our thoughts truly approach the gods. Let our thoughts go forth to the great Vishnu, to the Maruts born of the mountain, to their troop for sacrifice, for strength, for blessings, to the upholders of vows, the mighty ones. With golden radiance purified, he overcomes all hatreds with his team, like the sun’s rays. The streams upon his back shine, the ruddy, golden one moves through all forms with his seven songs and mouths. I praise Savitar, the mighty god of wise action, true in impulse, the treasure-holder, whose thought is lofty and whose command measures out the heavens. The golden-handed, radiant one, good in action, is master of the worlds. I consider Agni the priest, generous and strong, knower of all births, wise in all things, who, with upright rites, spreads divine compassion and clarified butter with his bright flame. That first, ancient deed of yours, heroic Indra, is celebrated in heaven: by your might you broke open the waters, making the world overflow with strength, nourishment, and food. Thus, at the festival, to Indra… O Pavamana, born of the pressing, you have placed your seat in heaven and on earth, granting mighty protection and great fame. Flow, O Soma, with your sweetest, most delightful stream, pressed for Indra to drink. O vigorous one, flow with strength for the Maruts, bearing all powers, surging forth with energy. With your most excellent exhilaration, flow forth with the sacred drink, O god, heroic one, destroyer of curses.
