Indra, the mighty slayer of Vritra, grew strong for delight and power among men. In times of great battle, we call upon him to bring us victory, for his unmatched heroism shines forth. O Vajra-holder, you destroyed the cunning beast with your own cunning, following the sovereignty of the sun. Indra, go forth boldly—your thunderbolt never fails. Your strength lies in your heroic deeds; slay the Vritra and conquer the waters, always guided by the sun’s authority. When the victorious rise, wealth is granted to the bold. Indra, harness your horses, moved by delight; slay whom you wish, grant wealth to whom you wish, and bestow riches upon us. Your beloved ones have never faltered nor been harmed; the self-luminous sages, with ever-new insight, yoke your two steeds, Indra. Hear our songs, O generous one, as a mother listens; when will you make us, who speak well, prosper? Let your two steeds be yoked for this purpose. The moon dwells within the waters, and the splendid bird races across the sky. Your golden-wheeled chariots find their path like lightning, and both worlds witness your wealth. To you, Ashvins, the praiser adorns your most beloved, mighty, wealth-bringing chariot with hymns—listen to my sweet invocation. To Agni, ever-youthful and radiant, we kindle the sacred flame. In battle, your precious light shines forth; bring the heavenly portion to the worshippers. With our praises, we choose you, Agni, as the wise Hotar, with shining flames. In your joy, at the sacrifices, on the strewn grass, bring forth the offerings. O Dawn, awaken us today to great wealth and radiant light, as you have before. Awaken us to truth-speaking, nobility, good birth, the gift of horses, and gracious speech. O mind, send us good fortune; grant us skill and wisdom. In your friendship and exhilaration, may you bring forth gifts we desire, as cows are led to pasture. By his power and resolve, the mighty one has increased in strength. The lofty one, adorned with glory, has placed the iron thunderbolt in the hands of the tawny, golden-bearded Indra. He mounts the mighty, wealth-bringing chariot, filled with the exhilarating draught for Indra. Let your two steeds be yoked, O Indra. Agni is the treasure to whom cows, swift horses, and ever-victorious steeds go. Bring nourishment to the worshippers. No harm or misfortune comes to that mortal whom the united gods—Aryaman, Mitra, and Varuna—lead beyond his enemies. O Soma, flow sweetly for Indra, Mitra, Pūṣan, and Bhaga. Flow all around for strength; break through obstacles, conquer foes, and run past haters as a debtor flees. Flow as the great ocean, father of the gods, encompassing all abodes. Flow for great skill, like a harnessed steed striving for wealth. The beautiful drop has entered the filter for exhilaration, in the lap of the waters, as a sage, for Bhaga. Truly, we rejoice in you, Soma, pressed for exhilaration and great sovereignty; flowing one, you advance toward strength. Who among mortals or self-horsed men is close to Rudra? Agni, may we with praises attain that swift horse today, that noble power, touching the heart, by your favor. The heroes have become manifest; we have reached the prize, the strength of the strong, the power of god Savitar. May the swift ones win the heavenly realm. Soma, flow with glory, well-purifying, great and ever-new, following the ancient path. From every side, bring to us that most powerful one whom we invoke. This is the priest, the officiant, whom I praise as Indra, famed by name. Exalting Indra with priestly power, they would slay the foe. Tvaṣṭṛ, the divine fashioner, made the chariot for the horse and the shining thunderbolt for you, O much-invoked one. A happy step, a generous gift—he does not violate desire nor harm the wealth of the wealthy. Ever pure are the cows, all-yielding; ever faultless are the gods. Come here with the forest, together with the cows; let them approach the path with their udders. Dwelling in sweetness, let us prosper in wealth and gain insight, O Indra. The Maruts praise the Sun with hymns; the youthful, famed Indra is exalted. Sing a song for Indra, the slayer of Vṛtra, the inspired one whom you delight in. Agni is unceasing, wise, bearer of offerings, and of a goodly chariot. Agni, you are our nearest, our protector, auspicious and sheltering. Bhaga, the splendid, like Agni, bestows the treasure of the great. Proclaim everywhere, in the front or in the assembly; come here now.
