Come now, do not hesitate—set forth without delay, for when hearts and minds are united in purpose, even the most steadfast can be moved. Draw near for this sacred offering, O Indra, lord of horses, lord of cows, lord of fertile fields; come, mighty one, and drink the Soma, for you are the sovereign over Soma itself. Through your power, O Indra, bull among gods, with your thunderous might, we address the living breath of all beings, gathering in the assembly of people rich with cattle. Even the cows, bound together by kinship, move as one; the Maruts, with all their companions, journey together, their forms blending in unity. Indra, bestow upon us strength and heroism, O hundred-powered and wise one; grant us a warrior who stands firm in battle. Therefore, O Indra, singer of praises, we seek you with eager longing and call you forth; let your blessings rise with the waters. Your birds, O Indra, rest as if in the shelter of a cow, in the honeyed, intoxicating place; for this, we praise you. We bear you, O unprecedented one, like a mighty burden; O Vajra-holder, wondrous one, we call upon you for your help. Sweetly, the cows drink the flowing honey, and those who rejoice with Indra, the mighty one, shine, possessing wealth and following the sovereignty of the sun. Thus, Soma, the delight, fashioned prayer; the most powerful, the Vajra-holder, by his strength spread out the earth, slew the serpent, and followed the path of the sun’s sovereignty. Indra grew strong for delight and might, the slayer of Vritra, among men; we call upon him in great battle, that he may come to us in victory. For you, Indra, O stone-pressed, is this unmatched heroism, O Vajra-holder; when you slew that cunning beast with your own cunning, following the sun’s sovereignty. Go forth, come near, be bold! Your thunderbolt does not fail; Indra, your heroism is our strength—slay the Vritra, conquer the waters, following the sovereignty of the sun. When the victorious arise, wealth is given to the bold; harness the horses moved by delight, slay whom you will, grant wealth to whom you wish; for us, Indra, grant abundance. They have not failed nor faltered; the beloved ones remain unharmed and undiminished. The self-luminous sages, ever-new in insight, yoke, O Indra, your two steeds. Hear our songs, O bountiful one, as a mother listens to her children; when will you make us, who speak well, prosper? For this, let your two steeds be yoked, O Indra. The moon dwells within the waters; the splendid bird soars across the sky; your golden-wheeled chariots, flashing like lightning, find their path. The two worlds know of your wealth. To you, Ashvins, the praiser adorns your most beloved, mighty chariot—the bringer of wealth—with hymns; listen to my sweet invocation. To you, Agni, ever-youthful and radiant god, we kindle the sacred fire. In battle, your precious flame shines forth; bring the heavenly portion to your worshippers. With our praises, we choose you, Agni, as the Hotar, wise and shining; in your joy, at the sacrifices, on the strewn grass, bring forth the offering. Awaken us today, O Dawn, to great wealth, full of light, as you have awakened us before—in truth-speaking, nobility, good birth, the gift of horses, and gracious words. Mind, send us good fortune; grant us skill and wisdom. In your friendship and exhilaration, may you bring forth, as cows to pasture, the gifts we desire. By his power, the mighty one, following his resolve, has increased in strength; the lofty one, adorned with glory, has placed the iron thunderbolt in the hands of the tawny, golden-bearded one. He mounts that mighty, wealth-bringing chariot, who fills the cup with the exhilarating draught for Indra. Let your two steeds be yoked, O Indra. I consider Agni the true treasure, to whom the cows go, to whom the swift horses and ever-victorious steeds are drawn; bring nourishment to the worshippers. No harm nor misfortune comes to that mortal whom the gods—united, Aryaman, Mitra, and Varuna—lead safely beyond his enemies. Flow around, O Soma, sweet for Indra, for Mitra, for Pūṣan, for Bhaga. Flow all around, O Soma, for the gaining of strength; break through all obstacles, conquer foes, and outrun the haters as a debtor flees. Flow, O Soma, like the great ocean, father of the gods, encompassing all abodes. Flow for great skill, O Soma, like a harnessed steed striving for wealth. The beautiful drop has entered the filter for exhilaration, in the lap of the waters, as a sage, for Bhaga. Truly, we rejoice in you, Soma, pressed for exhilaration and great sovereignty; O flowing one, you advance toward strength. Who indeed, revealed, is the man close to Rudra—mortal or self-horsed? Agni, by your favor, may we attain that swift horse today, that noble power, touching the heart. The heroes have become manifest; we have reached the prize, the strength of the strong, the power of god Savitar; may the swift ones win the heavenly realm. Flow, Soma, with glory, well-purifying, great and ever-new, following the ancient path. The second half is the fifth; from every side, bring to us from all directions that most powerful one whom we invoke. This is the priest, the officiant, whom I praise as Indra, famed by name. Exalting Indra with priestly power, they would slay the foe. Tvaṣṭṛ, the divine fashioner, made the chariot for the horse, and the shining thunderbolt for you, O much-invoked one. Thus, the story flows—of gods and men, of prayers and offerings, of strength and unity, of the ever-renewing gifts of Soma, and of the mighty deeds of Indra and his companions, all under the watchful sovereignty of the sun.
