You, O gods, possess countless herds—thousands upon thousands—that you bestow in your greatness. Through our songs, we have made Purandara, Indra, famed among all, praising him for his generous help. He, who gives all wealth and stands as the delightful priest among people, receives the first vessels of honey; let our praises reach Agni, the radiant one. The generous are praised like swift horses, skilled in chariots, their names carried forward in song. O wondrous lord of clans, you grant the wealth of the generous, blessing them with offspring and descendants. Varuna, hear my invocation today and show mercy; I have come to you seeking help. O mighty one, by what power do you never tire? By what support do you continually bring gifts to your worshippers? To Indra, indeed, the offerings are brought; at every sacrifice, the priests call upon him. For the gaining of wealth, we invoke Indra, the bestower of riches. By his greatness, Indra has stretched out heaven and earth; by his might, he made the sun shine. All beings are contained within Indra; in him, the pressed Soma flows. O all-creating one, growing through the offering, worship yourself in your own form, for yours alone is true power. Let confusion surround others, but here, may our generous lord be wise for us. Purifying himself in a shining golden hue, he overcomes all hatreds with his radiant team, shining like the sun. The stream on his back glows, the purifying, tawny one moves in all forms with the hymns, with his seven mouths, as the hymns are sung. The wise one protects from the east, his rays like a chariot striving forward—the divine, visible chariot. O heroic Indra, the hymns come to gladden you for victory; in battle, you are the unbroken thunderbolt. You know the wealth of traders, gathering it with the mothers into your own house. With thoughts of truth, you foster the distant song within the home, where thoughts contend. With three-colored, shining wings, you have placed radiance everywhere. For us, grant the wealth of cows, the thought of horses, and the strength of men as our aid. O men, know the desire of the joyful one, the sweating, eager one of true strength. May the immortal sons listen to our songs and be gracious to us. For you two—heaven and earth—we offer a great and shining praise, pure and worthy of your commendation. Purifying yourselves, you rule by your own power, each with your unique form; you have carried forward the ancient truth. Great is the aid of Mitra, who upholds truth and helps us cross over; around the sacrifice, he takes his seat. At your assembly, I offer this word, as a pigeon in its nest; I do not conceal this from you. O lord of gifts, singer of praises, heroic one, may your glory be accompanied by fair speech. Stand upright for our help, O hundred-powered one, in this contest; allow us to speak among our allies. The cows have come to the watering place, full of the sap of the sacrifice, their ears adorned with gold. The stones have flowed together; the sweet juice is poured into the vessel at the outflow of the watering place. With reverence, they pour forth at the watering place, the high-spoked, far-traveling, never-failing stream. Let us not fear or grow weary in your fierce companionship, O mighty one; let us witness the great deeds you have accomplished for Turvasha and Yadu. With your left flank you stir, O powerful one; the giver is not angered by this. The cows, mingled with honey and adorned, come forth; come, drink the flowing nectar. O Purūvasa, these radiant, pure, wise, and discerning songs of mine have praised you with hymns. Honored by a thousand sages, this one has spread forth like the ocean; his greatness is true. I praise his power in sacrifices and the sovereignty of the wise. To whom all—Aryan and Dasa—are subject, even the hostile enemy is subdued. To you, O radiant one, wealth is offered. The swift ones have sung the honeyed, clarified butter; the sages have chanted the hymn. For us, wealth and mighty power have spread; for us, the streams, O Indu, are ours. O Indu, pressed with cows and horses, skillful, wealthy, pure in color, you are to be cherished among the cows. Be for us, O Indu, the lord of the Haris, most divine, a friend in friendship, shining among the noble. Drive away from us any godless, hostile one; mighty Indu, dispel the double-minded. They anoint, adorn, and unite; they stir the power, anointing with honey. The golden-hooved ones seize the animal in the waters as it breathes and flies from the river. Sing to the wise, purifying one; the great stream flows, and darkness rushes away. Like a snake shedding its skin, the splendid one glides; like a playful youth, the tawny one moves forth. The foremost king shines, exalted, established in the world by day; the tawny one, bathed in clarified butter, beautiful, oceanic, radiant-charioted, is purified for wealth and home. In the eighth, in the first half, with all the fires, O Agni, may this sacrifice and this speech be accomplished with strength and glory. Whatever is perpetual, we worship each god; for you, the offering is kindled. May the lord of the people, the delightful, worthy Hotar, be dear to us; may we be dear to our own fires. We call upon Indra, surpassing all, for the people; may he be ours alone. May you, O mighty one, accept this offering at the sacrificial feast; increase our nourishment, unconquered one. Like a bull among the herd, born of noble lineage, you stir the peoples with your strength; you are the lord, unconquered.
