As the sacrifice unfolded, the desired offerings flowed forth, strengthening mighty Indra and carrying the ritual with vigor toward its culminating Avabhṛtha rite. Into this sacred moment, I received the immortal wisdom from my father, shining forth in birth like the radiant sun itself. May the abundant gatherings, full of strength, be present with us in Indra’s presence; with these mighty hosts, may we rejoice together. Soma and Pūṣan have beheld all prosperous dwellings, and for the gods, two chariots stand prepared, ready for their use. Let all voices sing to Indra for the Soma drink; I, who conquer all and am the foremost among men, praise the hundred-powered one. Friends, raise your songs to Indra, the exhilarator, tawny-horsed and eager for Soma. We, your friends, the Kanvas, approach you, Indra, with joy and hymns for this very purpose. Let our songs encircle the pressed Soma for joyful Indra; let the poets offer their hymns of praise. This Soma, purified for you, Indra, rests on the sacred grass—come, drink its flowing essence. For the granting of beautiful forms, we offer to you, ever-shining one, as one draws milk from a cow rich with abundance. To you, the bull, at the pressing of Soma, I pour out the drink for your delight; be satisfied and partake in this joy. O Indra, the Soma pressed in cups and vessels is yours—drink, for you are lord of this offering. In unity and renewed strength, we call upon you, Indra our friend, for aid in the contest. Come, Indra, be seated here among us; let us sing together, friends, with voices full of praise. This pressed Soma is indeed for you, Lord of gifts; drink it, O singer, with all your might. May Indra, mighty and foremost, stand for us; may greatness belong to the wielder of the thunderbolt, his power unbounded by heaven itself. Come, Indra, and seize for us the splendid prize, rich in land, with your mighty right hand. Sing to the lord of herds, to Indra of the mountains, as is fitting for the son of truth, the true master. By what wondrous means does our ever-growing friend become our messenger? By what most powerful support is he chosen? To the mighty one who conquers in assemblies, offer your songs in every gathering, that he may stir and aid us. To the lord of the seat, wondrous and beloved, desired by Indra, bring the offering rich in wisdom. May your paths beneath the sky, by which you once drove forth the horse, hear us, O gods. May good fortune come to us, O hundred-powered Indra, when you bestow strength and favor. This Soma is pressed; the Maruts drink of it, as do the radiant Ashvins. The observant ones, full of longing, worship Indra, born for victory and eager for heroic strength. We do no harm to the gods nor approach them wrongly; we walk the path of sacred utterance. Dawn has come, radiant and resounding with song; Atharvan, praise the divine Savitar. This unprecedented dawn shines forth, beloved of heaven; I praise you, Ashvins, with a lofty hymn. Indra, with the bones of Dadhichi, unconquered, struck down ninety and nine foes. Come, Indra, with the exhilarating Soma, with all the festivals of Soma, mighty and full of strength. Now, Indra, come to us, great one, with your mighty protections. He, Indra, established both worlds by his strength and vigor, as one stretches out two skins. Your word, like a pigeon returning to its nest, has come close; you have not neglected it. May the wind bring us healing, happiness, and delight, carrying away our ailments. The person whom the wise ones—Varuṇa, Mitra, and Aryaman—protect, none can harm. May we, as in times before, have abundance of cows, horses, and chariots, for the sake of great renown. These, O Indra, the spotted ones, yield clarified butter in abundance; these streams flow with the nectar of immortality. With this prayer and desire for cattle, O much-praised one, you, Indra, are revealed at the Soma offering. May Sarasvatī, pure and rich in horses, full of strength and wisdom, desire our sacrifice. And who among the descendants of Nahusha will satisfy Indra with Soma? May such a one bring us riches.
