Let us now lift our voices in praise of Indra, pure of essence, with songs and hymns that are themselves pure and strong. May Indra, radiant and mighty, accept our blessings, offered with sincerity and clarity. Indra, come to us in your purity, bringing pure aid and bestowing pure wealth. May you, in your purity, find delight in the Soma we offer, and grant us wealth and treasures, removing obstacles from our path and seeking the prize on our behalf. Turning our devotion to Agni, we yearn for the hymn that soars swiftly today, touching the heavens, drawing down the favor and riches of the gods. May Agni, the priest among men, receive our songs and honor the divine assembly, for he is renowned and chosen as the worthy priest. Through Agni, the sacred sacrifice is spread and sustained. Voices rise in praise of the mighty, threefold, youthful one—Agni—shining and adorned, standing out among the forests as Varuṇa stands among rivers, bestower of treasures and desirable gifts. O powerful leader, victorious in battle, flow forth and bring us wealth. With sharp arms and swift bow, conquer our enemies, stand mighty among warriors. With wide protection, creating fearlessness, flow forth, O Purandhi, seeking the waters. May the dawns, resounding from heaven, grant us great prizes. Indra, you are renowned as the lord of strength, destroyer of formidable foes, upholder of the people, and surpasser of all in ancient deeds. O wise Asura, we seek you as our portion of wealth, vast and sheltering as a great skin. Indra, let your favor reach us and be our refuge. We have chosen you, the most worshipful among the gods, the immortal priest, wise in sacrifice. To the offspring of the waters, to gracious, radiant Agni of excellent flame, may he grant us the favor of Mitra and Varuṇa, and the blessings of the celestial waters. O Agni, those whom you protect among mortals in contests, whom you aid in winning prizes, attain lasting riches. None can withstand their strength or surpass them; even the least among them wins a prize worthy of fame. May the prize be won by all peoples with their swift horses, seized by sages, and be the bringer of wealth. Together, the ten sisters—thoughts of the wise—cleanse; the bowstrings sing as the tawny one circles the vessel of the sun, like a steed striving for the prize. Like a calf among its mothers, the mighty one, bearer of many gifts, moves with the waters; like a youth among women, he goes forth, the vessel with the cows. The wise Soma flows, joining with streams, filling the udder; cows sprinkle the head with milk in the vessels, as treasures pour out. Indra, drink the pressed Soma juice and delight in it, you who are rich in cows. Be our ally at the shared feast; may your thoughts support and strengthen us. Let us be favored by your generosity, O giver of prizes. Let us not fall to the enemy; may your splendid aids protect us and guide us to your favor. Three times seven cows have milked for him, true and strong, in the highest heaven. Four other worlds he has separated and made beautiful. Consuming the delightful nectar, he has spread both heaven and earth with his poetry; the powerful waters have expanded in greatness, and by the god’s fame, the seat was established. Let these be his signs—immortal and invincible—in both his births. By these, with heroism and divine power, they purified and then seized the king with their thoughts. I praise Vāyu with hymns, and purify Mitra and Varuṇa. I purify the wise, chariot-bearing man, and Indra, the mighty wielder of the thunderbolt. I purify the garments, finely adorned; I purify the cows, rich in yield; I purify the splendid, golden, horse-drawn chariots for Soma, the god. I purify for us the divine treasures and all things of the earth, that by these we may attain wealth, O descendant of Jamadagni. When you were born, O Maghavan, for the slaying of Vṛtra, you expanded and supported both earth and heaven. Then your sacrifice was born, then the hymn and the bright praise; then you became lord over all that has arisen and all that lives. Cooked within, bring forth; raise the sun in the sky. Let the song shine, adorned with beautiful praise, great for the singer. Your greatness is drunk like a fish drinks, O tawny one, like the thirst for the cup. Your mighty Soma, O bull, is rich in prizes and brings a thousandfold reward. Let your desire come to us, O bull; let noble exhilaration be ours. Mighty Indra, victorious in battle, bring us the prize. For you are the hero, the winner, the driver of the human chariot; mighty, you destroy the lawless enemy, shining like a cup of fire. Sixth, third, half—purify; bring the rain for us. Let the wave of waters from heaven, great and free from illness, bring us nourishment. Purify with that stream by which the cows have come to us, born for us, to our home. Purify ghee with the stream, most beloved by the gods in sacrifice; bring rain for us, purify. For us, flow with strength, stream through the purifier; let the gods hear our desire. The flowing one has shattered obstacles and driven away enemies, shining with ancient lights. Bring to him who desires, who knows all things, to the one ready to go, and to the men on the path behind. With these, approach him—with the Somās, with the pure, the strong, the pressed drops—approach Indra, the drinker of Soma.
