Across the vast expanse of the sky, through the dusty spaces, Soma rushes forth in his resounding, purifying stream. He has spread out the untouched heavens, moving through the dust, self-lawful and ever cleansing. With an ancient birth, Soma—pressed for the gods, tawny and radiant—flows through the purifier, his journey sacred and eternal. Born anew in many rites, Soma generates lights, and when pressed, he pours forth his stream. Subtle and swift of thought, a hero with rapid chariots, he approaches the dwelling of Indra. Invoked by many minds for the great divine rite, Soma comes to where the immortals gather. Cleansed and purified by the press-stones in vessels, he spreads abundant riches to those who honor him. Set in place, Soma is led along the path of purification, urged on by the rollers. He advances with golden beams, a steed with shining streams, becoming the lord over all rivers. Shaking his horns, the youthful bull of the herd, he bears manly strength and vigor. Swelling with riches, Soma crosses rough places and descends into the resting-places. The tawny Soma is pressed for the journey by ten fingers, exhilarating and armed with his own power. His bull-chariot, guarded by coverings, goes toward the thousandfold prize. Women of Trita press the tawny drop with stones, preparing it for Indra to drink. Among men, Soma sits like a falcon in the settlements, moving like a lover to his beloved. Intoxicating and radiant, the juice reveals itself—the child of heaven, entering the covering as a drop. Pressed and tawny, Soma rushes for drinking, roaring and seeking his beloved abode. Ten bright ones cleanse him, and with their touch he shines for exhilaration. Set in motion by men, Soma, lord of all-knowing minds, runs swiftly and unhindered to his goal. Pressed for the gods, he flows unceasingly through the purifier, entering all abodes. Shining forth immortal in his womb, Soma is the slayer of Vritra, most beloved by the gods. Mighty and roaring, urged by his kin in tenfold ways, Soma rushes toward the vessels. Pavamana illuminates the sun in the sky; in the purifier, exhilarating joy stirs. United with the radiant sun, Soma beams with Vivasvat, master of speech and unassailable. Praised and purified, the sage delights in the purifier, cleansing and striking down foes. Winning light, Soma is poured for Indra and Vayu, accomplishing skill in the purifier. Bull and pressed, Soma is led by men; knower of all, he moves through the woods, head of heaven. Desiring cows, Pavamana shines; golden-hued Indu, victorious in assemblies, is poured out. Powerful and golden, purified, Soma surges in the midspace; Indu, cleansing, seeks Indra. Purified, Soma surges for the unassailable—godly, heroic, dispeller of evil speech. Pressed and mighty, Soma flows in the purifier for drinking, divine and destroyer of demons. Discerning and golden, he flows in the purifier, roaring and rushing toward his womb. As a steed, Pavamana runs through the shining realms of heaven, slayer of demons, reaching the unfailing goal. On the summit of Trita, Pavamana illuminates the sun together with his kin. Bull and pressed, Soma, slayer of Vritra, grants wide space to the unassailable, rushing like a steed. Inspired by the sage, the god rushes toward the vessels—Indu magnifying Indra. He who recites the Pavamani hymns, the essence gathered by the seers, truly partakes in all that is purified, delighting through the breath of life. To such a reciter, Sarasvati herself gives milk, clarified butter, honey, and water. The Pavamani hymns, bringers of welfare and ever-yielding, flow with ghee; this essence gathered by the seers is placed as immortality among the Brahmins. May the Pavamani hymns establish for us this world and the next, these goddesses brought together by the gods, securing well-being and divine favor for all.
