In the sacred narrative, the ocean itself is cleansed by its waters, serving as the support and foundation of heaven. Soma, ever youthful and purified, embodies this eternal renewal. The mighty, tawny Soma bellows with great vigor, wondrous like Mitra, shining in unity with the sun’s radiance. Indra, far-seeing and powerful, receives songs purified by his strength, which he uses to adorn himself for exhilaration. For this exhilaration, seekers approach Indra, swift maker of worlds, offering him great praise. Indu, another name for Soma, is the delight of cows, men, horses, and strength, and stands as the ancient spirit of sacrifice. Indu is invoked to pour forth invigorating power, flowing with sweetness like a rain-bringing cloud. Ever victorious and triumphant, Soma, the purified one, is asked to grant great renown and prosperity. He is called upon to bestow everlasting light, radiance, and all good fortunes, as well as lasting skill and wisdom, driving away foes and bringing prosperity. The purifiers cleanse Soma for Indra to drink, seeking prosperity. Like the Sun, Soma brings people together by his power and aids, ensuring prosperity. By these powers, the wish is to always behold the Sun and receive prosperity. Soma is urged to advance with his own weapon, bringing wealth that is doubly strong, unconquered and victorious in contests, winning prizes in battles, and bestowing prosperity. Soma, magnified by sacrifices in sacred rites, is asked to grant prosperity. Indu is implored to bring splendid, all-encompassing wealth, renowned among all, and bestow prosperity. The exhilarating stream of pressed Soma rushes forth, carrying its invigorating energy. The dawn knows the treasures and divine sustenance of mortals, as the exhilarating stream continues to rush forth. From the two rich ones, thousands of gifts have been received, and the exhilarating stream flows. From those with thirty offspring and countless gifts, the stream continues its rush. These Somas are praised for their great might, flowing with the most exhilarating stream. The purified Soma flows for the winning of cows, with manly strength, ever victorious. The singer is called to praise all the flowing streams with a hymn, together with Jamadagni. A song is offered to the worthy Jātavedas, united with thought as a chariot, for blessed is counsel in the assembly. Agni is invoked for friendship, asking that no harm comes in his presence. The fuel is brought, offerings prepared, arranged at each sacred time, seeking safe passage for thoughts and life. Agni is called upon to ensure safety in friendship. The wish is to kindle Agni well, that through him the gods may accept offerings, and that he may bring the Ādityas, for the call is made in friendship. At the rising of the Sun, praise is offered to Mitra, Varuṇa, and Aryaman, the beneficent. A shining thought, like gold, is offered to the mighty, uninjuring, for strength and wisdom, seeking insight. The prayer is to belong to Varuṇa and Mitra, together with the wise, obtaining nourishment and well-being. All hatreds are asked to be broken apart, obstacles driven away, foes struck down, and desirable wealth brought forth. Of all that the gods have given to humankind, whoever knows it is asked to bring that desirable wealth. Whatever is hidden, O Indra, in the lair, the firm place, or the rock, is wished to be brought forth as desirable wealth. Indra and Agni, ever victorious in contests and deeds, are invoked as priests of sacrifice. Swift as thought, chariot-borne, slayers of Vṛtra, undefeated, Indra and Agni are called to be aware. The exhilarating draught, pressed with stones, is poured for them by men. Soma is urged to flow, most sweet, for Indra and the Maruts, settling in the womb of the chant. The wise, skilled in words, purify Soma, the mighty one, cleansed together by the pressing stones. Mitra, Aryaman, and Varuṇa, as sages, are invited to drink Soma’s essence, and the Maruts to partake in the flowing Soma. Purified and with good hands, Soma seeks out speech in the ocean, rushing toward abundant, variegated, much-desired wealth. Purifying, the bull Soma roars in the lovely, unaging wood, adorned with cows, flowing forth to the seat of the gods, completing the sacred journey.
