Shine forth, O Lord of strength, renowned and mighty, inspirer of worship. With your divine power, open the vessel at the heart of the sacrifice, that your essence may be revealed. Speak out, O skillful one, and let the pressed Soma juice flow from the vessel, glowing like fire among the people. O lord of the clan, let Soma rain down from heaven, releasing a stream that brings the wealth of cows and the gift of insight. The child of the great ones breathes out, stirring the radiant brightness of truth. He becomes beloved by all, holding the community together in unity. You have approached the stone of Trita, discovering the hidden place; with the seven sacred abodes of the sacrifice, you have reached the beloved. With Trita’s three supports, you move skillfully, measuring your course; your yokes are crafted with wisdom. Flow, O Soma, for the gaining of strength, purified through the filter and pressed out with care. Sweeter than honey, you are offered for Indra, for Vishnu, for all the gods. Cleansed by pure thoughts, O tawny one, you pass through the filter without deceit, like mothers tending a newborn calf, your course is pure and nurturing. With your great power, you embrace both heaven and earth. By your greatness, you remove the coverings, revealing the truth. The invigorating Soma flows, rich in strength, abundant for the cows, offered to Indra for might and exhilaration. He strikes down the demon, drives away hostility, and opens a wide path, reigning as king among the people. Then, mingled with honey and strained through the filter, the Soma drop flows, milked from the stone. This invigorating essence delights in Indra’s friendship, a god for the gods, stirring exhilaration. Purifying himself, the godly Soma flows with sacred vows, filling the gods with his own essence. Clad in truth, he upholds the laws, guarded by ten fingers on the unshaken summit. To you, Agni, we kindle the undying, radiant flame. May your most glorious battle shine forth, and when kindled, bring the heavenly portion to the singers. With hymns and offerings, O Agni, lord of shining light, bright and wondrous, carrier of our gifts, we call to you—bring nourishment to the singers. Both ladles, O bright lord of the people, are filled for you; may our hymns satisfy you, O mighty lord, and bring nourishment for the singers. Let us sing the Sāman for Indra, the inspired, the great and mighty, the creator of prayer, wise and praiseworthy. Indra, you are all-conquering; you made the sun shine. You are the universal maker, the universal god, the great one. Shining with radiance, you gods swiftly go to the realm of light, and Indra, you have entered into friendship. Soma has been pressed for you, Indra, most mighty—come with your strength. May your power be filled, just as the sun fills the sky with rays. Stand upon your chariot, O slayer of Vṛtra, your two bays yoked by prayer. May the stone, with its fire, incline your mind toward us. Indra’s two bays carry him, whose might none can withstand, to the well-praised songs of the seers and the sacrifices of men. The radiant Soma, delight of the sacrifice, beloved and sweet, flows forth—the father of the gods, creator of riches. He bestows treasures worthy of praise, most gladdening, the exhilarating, powerful essence. Resounding, the vigorous Soma rushes to the vessel—the lord of heaven, with a hundred streams, discerning. The tawny one sits in the dwellings of Mitra, purified by the rivers, a bull among the streams. Foremost among the rivers, the purified Soma rushes forth; foremost in speech, he moves among the cows. Foremost in strength, he wins great wealth, well-armed, Soma, with those who press him. Swift, strong, bull-like Somas have flowed forth for wealth in cattle and horses, shining with heroic vigor. Shining, purified by the hands of those who live by truth, cleansed between two hands, they flow on in the unchanging channel. May all the divine and earthly treasures, O Somas, flow for the worshipper; may those of the midspace also flow. Purify yourself, O Soma, with divine power in the filter, O delightful one; enter, mighty drop, into Indra’s hosts. Speak forth, O mighty, abundant, bull Soma, most glorious; enter your appointed seat. The dear sweet juice has been milked, the streams of the pressed, inspired one; the waters, O wise one, flow for you. The great rivers flow towards you, O Soma, when you are clothed with cows. The ocean is cleansed in the waters, the support and foundation of heaven; Soma, purified, is ever youthful. The mighty, tawny one has bellowed, great like the wondrous Mitra; he shines together with the sun. O Indra, the songs are cleansed by your strength, O far-seeing one, with which you adorn yourself for exhilaration. For your exhilaration, we seek you, O swift one, maker of worlds, for your great praise. O Indu, you are the delight of cows, of men, of horses, of strength; and you are also the ancient spirit of sacrifice. O Indu, pour forth your invigorating power for us, flow with sweetness like a rain-bringing cloud. Ever victorious, O Soma, triumphant and purified, grant us great renown, and bestow prosperity upon us. Bestow upon us everlasting light, everlasting radiance, and all good fortunes, O Soma, and then grant us prosperity. Grant us everlasting skill and wisdom, O Soma, drive away our foes, and bestow prosperity upon us. Let the purifiers cleanse Soma for Indra to drink, and then bestow prosperity upon us.
