बृहस्पते परि दीया रथेन रक्षोहामित्राँ अपबाधमानः । प्रभञ्जन्त्सेनाः प्रमृणो युधा जयन्नस्माकमेध्यविता रथानाम्
O Bṛhaspati, circle around with your chariot, destroyer of demons and foes, driving them away; breaking enemy hosts, crushing in battle, victorious, be our guide and protector of chariots.
बलविज्ञाय स्थविरः प्रवीरः सहस्वान्वाजी सहमान उग्रः । अभिवीरो अभिसत्वा सहोजा जैत्रमिन्द्र रथमा तिष्ठ गोवित्
Knowing strength, steadfast, supremely heroic, powerful, victorious, enduring, and fierce, O Indra, full of might, stand upon the conquering chariot, bestower of cattle.
गोत्रभिदं गोविदं वज्रबाहुं जयन्तमज्म प्रमृणन्तमोजसा । इमं सजाता अनु वीरयध्वमिन्द्रं सखायो अनु सं रभध्वम्
Breaker of enclosures, knower of cattle, with arms like thunderbolts, triumphant, shattering with power—O companions, emulate this Indra, your kinsman; unite together in strength.
अभि गोत्राणि सहसा गाहमानोऽदयो वीरः शतमन्युरिन्द्रः । दुश्च्यवनः पृतनाषाळयुध्योऽस्माकं सेना अवतु प्र युत्सु
Indra, the hero, hundred-powered, with force plunging against the barriers, irresistible in battle, destroyer of the wicked, let our army prevail in the fight.
इन्द्र आसां नेता बृहस्पतिर्दक्षिणा यज्ञः पुर एतु सोमः । देवसेनानामभिभञ्जतीनां जयन्तीनां मरुतो यन्त्वग्रम्
Let Indra lead these, Bṛhaspati and Right, let the sacrifice and Soma go before; among the divine hosts that break through and conquer, let the Maruts advance at the front.
इन्द्रस्य वृष्णो वरुणस्य राज्ञ आदित्यानां मरुतां शर्ध उग्रम् । महामनसां भुवनच्यवानां घोषो देवानां जयतामुदस्थात्
The mighty voice of Indra the bull, of King Varuṇa, of the Ādityas, of the fierce troop of Maruts, of the great-minded, world-moving gods, has arisen in victory.
उद्धर्षय मघवन्नायुधान्युत्सत्वनां मामकानां मनांसि । उद्वृत्रहन्वाजिनां वाजिनान्युद्रथानां जयतां यन्तु घोषाः
O bountiful one, rouse the weapons, stir the minds of my eager warriors; let the victorious cries of the chariot-fighters, the horsemen, and the slayers of Vṛtra rise up.
अस्माकमिन्द्रः समृतेषु ध्वजेष्वस्माकं या इषवस्ता जयन्तु । अस्माकं वीरा उत्तरे भवन्त्वस्माँ उ देवा अवता हवेषु
May Indra be with us among the assembled banners; may our arrows be victorious; may our heroes be supreme; O gods, protect us in our calls for aid.
अमीषां चित्तं प्रतिलोभयन्ती गृहाणाङ्गान्यप्वे परेहि । अभि प्रेहि निर्दह हृत्सु शोकैरन्धेनामित्रास्तमसा सचन्ताम्
Confound their minds, seize their limbs, drive them away; advance, burn them in their hearts with flames, let our enemies be joined with blinding darkness.
प्रेता जयता नर इन्द्रो वः शर्म यच्छतु । उग्रा वः सन्तु बाहवोऽनाधृष्या यथासथ
Go forth and conquer, O men; may Indra grant you protection; let your arms be strong, invincible, as you desire.
असावि सोमः पुरुहूत तुभ्यं हरिभ्यां यज्ञमुप याहि तूयम् । तुभ्यं गिरो विप्रवीरा इयाना दधन्विर इन्द्र पिबा सुतस्य
Soma has been pressed, O much-invoked one, for you; come with your steeds to the sacrifice; for you the inspired songs are raised, O Indra, drink of the pressed Soma.
अप्सु धूतस्य हरिवः पिबेह नृभिः सुतस्य जठरं पृणस्व । मिमिक्षुर्यमद्रय इन्द्र तुभ्यं तेभिर्वर्धस्व मदमुक्थवाहः
Drink here, O Indra, of the Soma purified in the waters, with men; fill your belly with the pressed juice; the stones have pressed it for you—grow strong with them, bringer of exhilaration and praise.
प्रोग्रां पीतिं वृष्ण इयर्मि सत्यां प्रयै सुतस्य हर्यश्व तुभ्यम् । इन्द्र धेनाभिरिह मादयस्व धीभिर्विश्वाभिः शच्या गृणानः
I offer you, O mighty one, the foremost draught, the true drink of the pressed Soma, O Indra with tawny steeds; rejoice here with the cows, with all the hymns, praised by every song.
ऊती शचीवस्तव वीर्येण वयो दधाना उशिज ऋतज्ञाः । प्रजावदिन्द्र मनुषो दुरोणे तस्थुर्गृणन्तः सधमाद्यासः
By your aid, O powerful one, by your strength, the wise, truth-knowing priests, bearing vigor, have stood firm in the homes of men, praising you in the assembly.
प्रणीतिभिष्टे हर्यश्व सुष्टोः सुषुम्नस्य पुरुरुचो जनासः । मंहिष्ठामूतिं वितिरे दधाना स्तोतार इन्द्र तव सूनृताभिः
With your guidance, O Indra with tawny steeds, the people of fair speech, full of joy, have bestowed the greatest aid, offering praise with generous words.
उप ब्रह्माणि हरिवो हरिभ्यां सोमस्य याहि पीतये सुतस्य । इन्द्र त्वा यज्ञः क्षममाणमानड् दाश्वाँ अस्यध्वरस्य प्रकेतः
Come to the hymns, O Indra, with your steeds, to drink the pressed Soma; the sacrifice calls you, the worthy one, the giver, the wise one of this rite.
सहस्रवाजमभिमातिषाहं सुतेरणं मघवानं सुवृक्तिम् । उप भूषन्ति गिरो अप्रतीतमिन्द्रं नमस्या जरितुः पनन्त
The mighty, thousand-powered, foe-crushing, Soma-drinking, generous Indra, praised with splendid hymns, is adorned by the songs of the worshipper, the unconquered one, honored by the singer.
सप्तापो देवीः सुरणा अमृक्ता याभिः सिन्धुमतर इन्द्र पूर्भित् । नवतिं स्रोत्या नव च स्रवन्तीर्देवेभ्यो गातुं मनुषे च विन्दः
The seven divine, untainted waters, O Indra, with which you first filled the Sindhu, flowing together, ninety and nine streams and nine more, you find a path for the gods and for man.
अपो महीरभिशस्तेरमुञ्चोऽजागरास्वधि देव एकः । इन्द्र यास्त्वं वृत्रतूर्ये चकर्थ ताभिर्विश्वायुस्तन्वं पुपुष्याः
Release for us, O mighty waters, from the great curse; awake, O god, you alone. Indra, with those waters by which you conquered the foe, nourish your whole being.
वीरेण्यः क्रतुरिन्द्रः सुशस्तिरुतापि धेना पुरुहूतमीट्टे । आर्दयद्वृत्रमकृणोदु लोकं ससाहे शक्रः पृतना अभिष्टिः
Indra is heroic, wise, and well-praised; even the nourishing cows seek the much-invoked one. He struck down the foe, created space, and the mighty one overcame the hosts in battle.
शुनं हुवेम मघवानमिन्द्रमस्मिन्भरे नृतमं वाजसातौ । शृण्वन्तमुग्रमूतये समत्सु घ्नन्तं वृत्राणि संजितं धनानाम्
May we call upon generous Indra in this contest, the best among men for winning strength; the fierce one who listens to prayers in battles, who strikes down foes and wins riches.
कदा वसो स्तोत्रं हर्यत आव श्मशा रुधद्वाः । दीर्घं सुतं वाताप्याय
When, O gracious one, will the song be pleasing to you? When will you, who restrain the doors, come to us? May the long-pressed Soma be invigorating.
हरी यस्य सुयुजा विव्रता वेरर्वन्तानु शेपा । उभा रजी न केशिना पतिर्दन्
His two bay steeds, well-yoked and unbound, swift as war-horses, are harnessed; both lines of the reins are in the hands of the lord.
अप योरिन्द्रः पापज आ मर्तो न शश्रमाणो बिभीवान् । शुभे यद्युयुजे तविषीवान्
Indra drives away the evil-doers, like a mortal who, weary and afraid, flees; when he, strong, has yoked his splendid team.
सचायोरिन्द्रश्चर्कृष आँ उपानसः सपर्यन् । नदयोर्विव्रतयोः शूर इन्द्रः
Indra, together with his companions, is praised; the hero Indra, worshipped by those who approach, makes the two rivers resound as they flow apart.
अधि यस्तस्थौ केशवन्ता व्यचस्वन्ता न पुष्ट्यै । वनोति शिप्राभ्यां शिप्रिणीवान्
He who stood above, with flowing hair and wide-spread, for increase; he conquers with his two-lipped, adorned jaws.
प्रास्तौदृष्वौजा ऋष्वेभिस्ततक्ष शूरः शवसा । ऋभुर्न क्रतुभिर्मातरिश्वा
The mighty one sent forth his strength among the strong, the hero shaped it with his power; like an artisan with skill, like Mātariśvan with wisdom.
वज्रं यश्चक्रे सुहनाय दस्यवे हिरीमशो हिरीमान् । अरुतहनुरद्भुतं न रजः
He who fashioned the thunderbolt for the destruction of the foe, with eager might, with eager jaws; his jaws are unyielding, wondrous as the sky.
अव नो वृजिना शिशीह्यृचा वनेमानृचः । नाब्रह्मा यज्ञ ऋधग्जोषति त्वे
Drive away our sins, O you who are praised in hymns; may we overcome the unrighteous. No unoffered prayer, no sacrifice, pleases you.
ऊर्ध्वा यत्ते त्रेतिनी भूद्यज्ञस्य धूर्षु सद्मन् । सजूर्नावं स्वयशसं सचायोः
May your triple support stand upright in the yokes of sacrifice, in your dwelling; may you, united, accompany the boat of your own glory.
