आ नो द्रप्सा मधुमन्तो विशन्त्विन्द्र देह्यधिरथं सहस्रम् । नि षीद होत्रमृतुथा यजस्व देवान्देवापे हविषा सपर्य
May honeyed drops enter us, Indra, grant abundant wealth; sit as the priest in due order, worship the gods, honor them with the offering.
आर्ष्टिषेणो होत्रमृषिर्निषीदन्देवापिर्देवसुमतिं चिकित्वान् । स उत्तरस्मादधरं समुद्रमपो दिव्या असृजद्वर्ष्या अभि
The seer Arṣṭiṣeṇa sat as the priest, wise in divine favor; from the upper to the lower ocean, he sent forth the heavenly waters, rainy and abundant.
अस्मिन्समुद्रे अध्युत्तरस्मिन्नापो देवेभिर्निवृता अतिष्ठन् । ता अद्रवन्नार्ष्टिषेणेन सृष्टा देवापिना प्रेषिता मृक्षिणीषु
In this ocean and in the upper one, the waters, restrained by the gods, remained; they ran forth, released by Arṣṭiṣeṇa, sent by the divine messenger, into the nourishing ones.
यद्देवापिः शंतनवे पुरोहितो होत्राय वृतः कृपयन्नदीधेत् । देवश्रुतं वृष्टिवनिं रराणो बृहस्पतिर्वाचमस्मा अयच्छत्
When Devāpi, chosen as the priest for Shantanu, compassionately performed the rites, Brihaspati, renowned among the gods, granted him speech that brings rain.
यं त्वा देवापिः शुशुचानो अग्न आर्ष्टिषेणो मनुष्यः समीधे । विश्वेभिर्देवैरनुमद्यमानः प्र पर्जन्यमीरया वृष्टिमन्तम्
You, Devāpi, shining, O Agni, Arṣṭiṣeṇa, human priest, honored by all the gods—move Parjanya to send forth rain.
त्वां पूर्व ऋषयो गीर्भिरायन्त्वामध्वरेषु पुरुहूत विश्वे । सहस्राण्यधिरथान्यस्मे आ नो यज्ञं रोहिदश्वोप याहि
You, whom the ancient sages approached with hymns, whom all invoke at the sacrifices, O much-invoked one—may you, Rohidasva, bring thousands of offerings to us; come to our ritual.
एतान्यग्ने नवतिर्नव त्वे आहुतान्यधिरथा सहस्रा । तेभिर्वर्धस्व तन्वः शूर पूर्वीर्दिवो नो वृष्टिमिषितो रिरीहि
These ninety-nine offerings, Agni, and nine more, have been placed for you, and thousands besides; with these, grow strong in your form, O mighty one, and bring us abundant rain from heaven.
एतान्यग्ने नवतिं सहस्रा सं प्र यच्छ वृष्ण इन्द्राय भागम् । विद्वान्पथ ऋतुशो देवयानानप्यौलानं दिवि देवेषु धेहि
These ninety thousand offerings, Agni, send forth as a share to Indra, the powerful; knowing the proper path, place the divine portion in heaven among the gods.
अग्ने बाधस्व वि मृधो वि दुर्गहापामीवामप रक्षांसि सेध । अस्मात्समुद्राद्बृहतो दिवो नोऽपां भूमानमुप नः सृजेह
Agni, drive away the hostilities, scatter the obstacles, ward off the evil and the demons; from this vast ocean of heaven, send us the abundance of waters and earth.
कं नश्चित्रमिषण्यसि चिकित्वान्पृथुग्मानं वाश्रं वावृधध्यै । कत्तस्य दातु शवसो व्युष्टौ तक्षद्वज्रं वृत्रतुरमपिन्वत्
Who, being wise, will make our offering splendid, will strengthen the broad-backed, swift horse for increase? Who, at dawn, will fashion the thunderbolt, the slayer of Vritra, with the might of the donor?
स हि द्युता विद्युता वेति साम पृथुं योनिमसुरत्वा ससाद । स सनीळेभिः प्रसहानो अस्य भ्रातुर्न ऋते सप्तथस्य मायाः
He, with brilliance and lightning, knows the chant; he has settled in the wide seat of divinity. With his companions, he overpowers the magic of his brother, the seventh.
स वाजं यातापदुष्पदा यन्स्वर्षाता परि षदत्सनिष्यन् । अनर्वा यच्छतदुरस्य वेदो घ्नञ्छिश्नदेवाँ अभि वर्पसा भूत्
He brings the prize, overcoming obstacles, when he circles around the sun; he grants what is far and what is near, knows the secrets, and destroys the gods hostile to fertility with his power.
स यह्व्योऽवनीर्गोष्वर्वा जुहोति प्रधन्यासु सस्रिः । अपादो यत्र युज्यासोऽरथा द्रोण्यश्वास ईरते घृतं वाः
He, youthful, offers the earth and the cows, moves among the foremost in the contests; where the yoked ones are footless and horseless, the trough-born horses draw the butter.
स रुद्रेभिरशस्तवार ऋभ्वा हित्वी गयमारेअवद्य आगात् । वम्रस्य मन्ये मिथुना विवव्री अन्नमभीत्यारोदयन्मुषायन्
He, together with the Rudras, warded off harm, came with the Ribhus, leaving behind the dwelling of death; I think he revealed the twin forms of the tender one, bringing food and stirring up the hidden.
स इद्दासं तुवीरवं पतिर्दन्षळक्षं त्रिशीर्षाणं दमन्यत् । अस्य त्रितो न्वोजसा वृधानो विपा वराहमयोअग्रया हन्
He subdued the powerful Dasa, the lord with sharp teeth and three heads; Trita, strengthened by his might, struck the boar in the waters with the foremost weapon.
स द्रुह्वणे मनुष ऊर्ध्वसान आ साविषदर्शसानाय शरुम् । स नृतमो नहुषोऽस्मत्सुजातः पुरोऽभिनदर्हन्दस्युहत्ये
He, upright among men, raised the weapon for the one who sees clearly; he, most heroic, Nahusha, born among us, struck the enemy and destroyed the hostile ones.
सो अभ्रियो न यवस उदन्यन्क्षयाय गातुं विदन्नो अस्मे । उप यत्सीददिन्दुं शरीरैः श्येनोऽयोपाष्टिर्हन्ति दस्यून्
He, like a cloud, brings fodder for our dwelling, knowing the path; when he sits near the moon with his body, the eagle, swift, strikes down the enemies.
स व्राधतः शवसानेभिरस्य कुत्साय शुष्णं कृपणे परादात् । अयं कविमनयच्छस्यमानमत्कं यो अस्य सनितोत नृणाम्
He, with his strength, drove away Shushna for Kutsa, defeated the miserly one; this one led the poet, the praiseworthy, and the one who brings gifts for him, and also for men.
अयं दशस्यन्नर्येभिरस्य दस्मो देवेभिर्वरुणो न मायी । अयं कनीन ऋतुपा अवेद्यमिमीताररुं यश्चतुष्पात्
This one, delighting with the noble, is gracious; powerful among the gods, like Varuna, skilled in magic; this one, the youthful, guardian of order, measures the unknown, and knows what moves on four feet.
अस्य स्तोमेभिरौशिज ऋजिश्वा व्रजं दरयद्वृषभेण पिप्रोः । सुत्वा यद्यजतो दीदयद्गीः पुर इयानो अभि वर्पसा भूत्
With his praises, the son of Ushij, Rijishva, shattered the enclosure of Pipru with the bull; when he drank the Soma, he shone with song, advancing with his form to the front.
एवा महो असुर वक्षथाय वम्रकः पड्भिरुप सर्पदिन्द्रम् । स इयानः करति स्वस्तिमस्मा इषमूर्जं सुक्षितिं विश्वमाभाः
Thus, O mighty Asura, for greatness, the tender one approaches Indra with his feet; advancing, he brings us well-being, strength, nourishment, and all prosperity.
इन्द्र दृह्य मघवन्त्वावदिद्भुज इह स्तुतः सुतपा बोधि नो वृधे । देवेभिर्नः सविता प्रावतु श्रुतमा सर्वतातिमदितिं वृणीमहे
Indra, make firm our wealth; here, praised, drink the Soma for our increase. May Savitar, together with the gods, protect us; we choose Aditi, who grants all surpassing blessings.
भराय सु भरत भागमृत्वियं प्र वायवे शुचिपे क्रन्ददिष्टये । गौरस्य यः पयसः पीतिमानश आ सर्वतातिमदितिं वृणीमहे
Bring the portion for the bearer, offer it for the priest; let it go to Vayu, pure, for the cry of worship. He who has tasted the milk of the cow, we choose Aditi, who grants all surpassing blessings.
आ नो देवः सविता साविषद्वय ऋजूयते यजमानाय सुन्वते । यथा देवान्प्रतिभूषेम पाकवदा सर्वतातिमदितिं वृणीमहे
May the god Savitar inspire us, guiding the sacrificer who presses the soma along the straight path. As we adorn the gods like ripe fruit, we choose the all-surpassing Aditi.
इन्द्रो अस्मे सुमना अस्तु विश्वहा राजा सोमः सुवितस्याध्येतु नः । यथायथा मित्रधितानि संदधुरा सर्वतातिमदितिं वृणीमहे
May Indra be gracious to us, the king Soma grant us prosperity. As Mitra and Dhiti unite their powers, we choose the all-surpassing Aditi.
इन्द्र उक्थेन शवसा परुर्दधे बृहस्पते प्रतरीतास्यायुषः । यज्ञो मनुः प्रमतिर्नः पिता हि कमा सर्वतातिमदितिं वृणीमहे
Indra, with praise and might, has spread protection; Brihaspati is the prolonger of life. Sacrifice, Manu, and wise counsel—our fathers—indeed, we choose the all-surpassing Aditi.
इन्द्रस्य नु सुकृतं दैव्यं सहोऽग्निर्गृहे जरिता मेधिरः कविः । यज्ञश्च भूद्विदथे चारुरन्तम आ सर्वतातिमदितिं वृणीमहे
The divine strength of Indra's good deeds, Agni in the house, the wise poet, and sacrifice, beautiful in the assembly, all these—thus we choose the all-surpassing Aditi.
न वो गुहा चकृम भूरि दुष्कृतं नाविष्ट्यं वसवो देवहेळनम् । माकिर्नो देवा अनृतस्य वर्पस आ सर्वतातिमदितिं वृणीमहे
We have not done much evil in secret, nor committed acts hateful to the gods, O Vasus. Let not the gods reject us for falsehood; thus we choose the all-surpassing Aditi.
अपामीवां सविता साविषन्न्यग्वरीय इदप सेधन्त्वद्रयः । ग्रावा यत्र मधुषुदुच्यते बृहदा सर्वतातिमदितिं वृणीमहे
May Savitar drive away disease and misfortune; let the waters repel what is harmful. Where the stone calls forth sweet soma, there we choose the all-surpassing Aditi.
ऊर्ध्वो ग्रावा वसवोऽस्तु सोतरि विश्वा द्वेषांसि सनुतर्युयोत । स नो देवः सविता पायुरीड्य आ सर्वतातिमदितिं वृणीमहे
Let the stone rise upright, O Vasus, in the pressing; may it drive away all hatred and enmity. May Savitar, the god, be our praised guardian; thus we choose the all-surpassing Aditi.
