पितुः प्रत्नस्य जन्मना वदामसि सोमस्य जिह्वा प्र जिगाति चक्षसा । यदीमिन्द्रं शम्यृक्वाण आशतादिन्नामानि यज्ञियानि दधिरे
We speak of the ancient birth of the Father; the tongue of Soma advances with vision; when the singer seeks Indra, then the worthy names are established.
श्रियसे कं भानुभिः सं मिमिक्षिरे ते रश्मिभिस्त ऋक्वभिः सुखादयः । ते वाशीमन्त इष्मिणो अभीरवो विद्रे प्रियस्य मारुतस्य धाम्नः
For glory, they have measured themselves with beams; with rays, with hymns, they are bringers of delight; those with banners, armed, courageous, have known the beloved abode of the Marut.
आ विद्युन्मद्भिर्मरुतः स्वर्कै रथेभिर्यात ऋष्टिमद्भिरश्वपर्णैः । आ वर्षिष्ठया न इषा वयो न पप्तता सुमायाः
Come, Maruts, with your shining, lightning-laden chariots, with spears, with horses adorned; fly forth with the richest nourishment, like birds, with good skill.
तेऽरुणेभिर्वरमा पिशङ्गैः शुभे कं यान्ति रथतूर्भिरश्वैः । रुक्मो न चित्रः स्वधितीवान्पव्या रथस्य जङ्घनन्त भूम
With ruddy, best, tawny horses, they go in splendor with chariots; like a bright gold ornament, with sharpened axes, the wheels of the chariot strike the earth.
श्रिये कं वो अधि तनूषु वाशीर्मेधा वना न कृणवन्त ऊर्ध्वा । युष्मभ्यं कं मरुतः सुजातास्तुविद्युम्नासो धनयन्ते अद्रिम्
For glory, your bands are set upon your bodies; like wise ones, they stand upright; for you, Maruts, the well-born, very mighty, break the rock.
अहानि गृध्राः पर्या व आगुरिमां धियं वार्कार्यां च देवीम् । ब्रह्म कृण्वन्तो गोतमासो अर्कैरूर्ध्वं नुनुद्र उत्सधिं पिबध्यै
The greedy ones have surrounded your days; this thought, this divine inspiration, O gods; the Gotamas, making prayers with hymns, have raised the well for drinking.
एतत्त्यन्न योजनमचेति सस्वर्ह यन्मरुतो गोतमो वः । पश्यन्हिरण्यचक्रानयोदंष्ट्रान्विधावतो वराहून्
This, your yoking, has reached its goal, O Maruts, as Gotama has sung for you; seeing your golden-wheeled, iron-toothed, swift, boar-like forms.
एषा स्या वो मरुतोऽनुभर्त्री प्रति ष्टोभति वाघतो न वाणी । अस्तोभयद्वृथासामनु स्वधां गभस्त्योः
This, your follower, O Maruts, sings forth in praise; the voice, like a skilled singer, has praised your power, following your nature with both hands.
आ नो भद्राः क्रतवो यन्तु विश्वतोऽदब्धासो अपरीतास उद्भिदः । देवा नो यथा सदमिद्वृधे असन्नप्रायुवो रक्षितारो दिवेदिवे
May auspicious thoughts come to us from every side, flawless, unimpeded, springing forth; may the gods always be our protectors, granting us growth, day by day, long-lived guardians.
देवानां भद्रा सुमतिरृजूयतां देवानां रातिरभि नो नि वर्तताम् । देवानां सख्यमुप सेदिमा वयं देवा न आयुः प्र तिरन्तु जीवसे
May the good favor of the gods be straight for us; may the generosity of the gods turn toward us; may we approach the friendship of the gods; may the gods grant us life for living.
तान्पूर्वया निविदा हूमहे वयं भगं मित्रमदितिं दक्षमस्रिधम् । अर्यमणं वरुणं सोममश्विना सरस्वती नः सुभगा मयस्करत्
With the ancient invocation, we call upon Bhaga, Mitra, Aditi, the unfailing Daksha, Aryaman, Varuna, Soma, the Ashvins; may Sarasvati grant us happiness and well-being.
तन्नो वातो मयोभु वातु भेषजं तन्माता पृथिवी तत्पिता द्यौः । तद्ग्रावाणः सोमसुतो मयोभुवस्तदश्विना शृणुतं धिष्ण्या युवम्
May Vata bring us happiness and healing; may Mother Earth and Father Sky do so; may the pressing stones, born of Soma, bring happiness; may you, Ashvins, mighty ones, hear us.
तमीशानं जगतस्तस्थुषस्पतिं धियंजिन्वमवसे हूमहे वयम् । पूषा नो यथा वेदसामसद्वृधे रक्षिता पायुरदब्धः स्वस्तये
We call upon that Lord, the master of all that moves and stands still, who inspires understanding, for help; may Pūṣan, who knows the ways, be our protector, our guardian, unfailing for our well-being.
स्वस्ति न इन्द्रो वृद्धश्रवाः स्वस्ति नः पूषा विश्ववेदाः । स्वस्ति नस्तार्क्ष्यो अरिष्टनेमिः स्वस्ति नो बृहस्पतिर्दधातु
May Indra of renowned glory grant us well-being; may Pūṣan, knower of all, grant us well-being; may Tārkṣya, with unbroken wheel, grant us well-being; may Bṛhaspati grant us well-being.
पृषदश्वा मरुतः पृश्निमातरः शुभंयावानो विदथेषु जग्मयः । अग्निजिह्वा मनवः सूरचक्षसो विश्वे नो देवा अवसा गमन्निह
May the Maruts, with spotted steeds, children of Pṛśni, who bring blessings and are praised in assemblies, come; may the men with tongues of fire, with the sun as their eye, may all the gods come here with their help.
भद्रं कर्णेभिः शृणुयाम देवा भद्रं पश्येमाक्षभिर्यजत्राः । स्थिरैरङ्गैस्तुष्टुवांसस्तनूभिर्व्यशेम देवहितं यदायुः
May we hear what is auspicious with our ears, O gods; may we see what is auspicious with our eyes, O worshipful ones; with firm limbs and bodies praising, may we live out the life allotted by the gods.
शतमिन्नु शरदो अन्ति देवा यत्रा नश्चक्रा जरसं तनूनाम् । पुत्रासो यत्र पितरो भवन्ति मा नो मध्या रीरिषतायुर्गन्तोः
May we see a hundred autumns, O gods, where our bodies do not grow old; where sons become fathers, let not our life be cut short in the middle.
अदितिर्द्यौरदितिरन्तरिक्षमदितिर्माता स पिता स पुत्रः । विश्वे देवा अदितिः पञ्च जना अदितिर्जातमदितिर्जनित्वम्
Aditi is the sky, Aditi is the midspace, Aditi is mother, father, and son; all the gods are Aditi, the five peoples are Aditi; Aditi is what is born, Aditi is the birth-giver.
ऋजुनीती नो वरुणो मित्रो नयतु विद्वान् । अर्यमा देवैः सजोषाः
May Varuṇa, with upright guidance, lead us; may Mitra, knowing, lead us; may Aryaman, together with the gods, lead us.
ते हि वस्वो वसवानास्ते अप्रमूरा महोभिः । व्रता रक्षन्ते विश्वाहा
For they are givers of wealth, unfailing, mighty with great powers; they always protect the ordinances.
ते अस्मभ्यं शर्म यंसन्नमृता मर्त्येभ्यः । बाधमाना अप द्विषः
May they, immortal, grant us shelter from harm, distinguishing us from mortals, driving away hatred.
वि नः पथः सुविताय चियन्त्विन्द्रो मरुतः । पूषा भगो वन्द्यासः
May Indra, the Maruts, Pūṣan, Bhaga, and the worthy ones open up paths for our prosperity.
उत नो धियो गोअग्राः पूषन्विष्णवेवयावः । कर्ता नः स्वस्तिमतः
And may Pūṣan, who leads the cows, and the swift-moving rays, make our thoughts fruitful for Viṣṇu, bringing us well-being.
मधु वाता ऋतायते मधु क्षरन्ति सिन्धवः । माध्वीर्नः सन्त्वोषधीः
Sweetness the winds bring for the righteous; sweetness the rivers pour out; may the plants be sweet for us.
मधु नक्तमुतोषसो मधुमत्पार्थिवं रजः । मधु द्यौरस्तु नः पिता
Sweet is the night and the dawn; sweet is the earthly realm; sweet is the sky, our father.
मधुमान्नो वनस्पतिर्मधुमाँ अस्तु सूर्यः । माध्वीर्गावो भवन्तु नः
Sweetness be in the forest tree for us, sweetness be the sun; may our cows be sweet for us.
शं नो मित्रः शं वरुणः शं नो भवत्वर्यमा । शं न इन्द्रो बृहस्पतिः शं नो विष्णुरुरुक्रमः
May Mitra be gracious to us, may Varuṇa be gracious, may Aryaman be gracious to us; may Indra, Bṛhaspati, and Viṣṇu of wide stride be gracious to us.
त्वं सोम प्र चिकितो मनीषा त्वं रजिष्ठमनु नेषि पन्थाम् । तव प्रणीती पितरो न इन्दो देवेषु रत्नमभजन्त धीराः
You, Soma, are wise in understanding; you lead us on the straightest path; by your guidance, O Indu, our forefathers, wise among the gods, obtained the treasure.
त्वं सोम क्रतुभिः सुक्रतुर्भूस्त्वं दक्षैः सुदक्षो विश्ववेदाः । त्वं वृषा वृषत्वेभिर्महित्वा द्युम्नेभिर्द्युम्न्यभवो नृचक्षाः
You, Soma, are wise with your powers; you are skillful with your abilities, all-knowing; you are a bull among bulls by your greatness, you are glorious among the glorious, seeing among men.
राज्ञो नु ते वरुणस्य व्रतानि बृहद्गभीरं तव सोम धाम । शुचिष्ट्वमसि प्रियो न मित्रो दक्षाय्यो अर्यमेवासि सोम
The ordinances of King Varuṇa are yours; your domain, Soma, is vast and deep; you are pure, dear as Mitra, skillful as Aryaman, O Soma.
